Nique Clifford has had a productive run in the NBA Summer League with the Sacramento Kings, and the 24th pick is among the leaders in one metric used by HoopsHype.
Clifford is averaging 16.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals on 50% shooting from 3-point range in five appearances with the Kings. He has scored in double figures four times, including a 19-point, nine-assist and seven-rebound performance on Wednesday.
He has played a key role in helping the Kings advance to the championship game on Sunday (10 p.m. EDT, ESPN). The Kings have had strong contributions from Isaac Jones and Devin Carter, who also rank in the top 15 in global rating, a metric used to determine players' productivity.
Clifford has emerged as one of the top overall performers among not only rookies but all players as well. He is finding success scoring from all three levels, while also rebounding at a high level and setting up teammates for easy looks.
The 23-year-old projects to be a player who can step in next season and contribute in the rotation for coach Doug Christie. He established himself as a versatile player in five seasons at the college level, and he has showcased that ability and more in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Clifford and the Kings (5-0) advanced to the title game as one of the top teams in the desert. The group will look to win one more game and keep that momentum heading into next season.

Suns GM: Team turned down 'great offers' to draft Khaman Maluach at No. 10

Phoenix Suns general manager Brian Gregory recently revealed the team turned down trade offers to select Khaman Maluach with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. The Suns acquired that first-round pick from the Houston Rockets -- along with Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and several second-round picks -- in exchange for Kevin Durant. The trade was eventually expanded to seven teams and officially completed on July 6. The 7-foot Maluach became a top target for the Suns to provide frontcourt depth and rim protection. Gregory said in a behind-the-scenes documentary published this week on the Suns' YouTube channel that the front office had Maluach high on their draft board. We weren't the only organization in the NBA that had such a high evaluation and thought so highly of him. A lot of calls came in. We had some great offers, but we really believed in him as a player and as a person and that he could come in and make a positive impact on our organization, so we stuck with him during that entire process. For us to get a guy that was projected on our board five spots higher than where we got him is a great accomplishment, and it is because of all of the work that everyone put in during the entire year. Maluach was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team last season at Duke, averaging 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks on 71.2% shooting from the field. He was highly touted due to his versatility as a player who can both shoot and defend, boasting a 7-foot, 6 3/4-inch wingspan. The 18-year-old debuted with the Suns in the NBA Summer League on July 11, recording 14 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. He finished by posting averages of 10 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in three appearances. Maluach has impressed teammates and coaches early on after joining the organization last month. He showcased each element of his game that attracted the Suns, and the group will be eager to get to work with him in training camp and beyond.

Hornets' Kon Knueppel exits Summer League game with head injury

The post Hornets' Kon Knueppel exits Summer League game with head injury appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Charlotte Hornets went undefeated through their first four games at NBA Summer League. The Hornets earned a spot in the semifinals easily, squaring off against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a spot in the championship on the line. The Hornets, led by No. 4 pick Kon Knueppel and Jaylen Sims, played a dominant game. However, Knueppel exited with a head injury. According to the Washington Post's Ben Golliver, Knueppel injured his head while diving for a loose ball. He was able to get up and walked to Charlotte's locker room under his own power. Hornets fans don't want to see their lottery pick suffer any injuries. However, there are some, like Golliver, who are impressed. Knueppel dived for the loose ball with his team winning by nearly 30 points. He did not have to hit the floor, but he did anyways. Even though his play in Summer League has been inconsistent, Knueppel has shown flashes of who he could be in the NBA. Before he left the game, Knueppel was having arguably his best game so far this summer. Through 21 minutes, the former Duke Blue Devil had 17 points and two steals. Luckily for his team, Sims stepped up in his absence. The third-year pro led the way for Charlotte with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. The Hornets blew out the Thunder 109-80 in the second NBA Summer League semifinal game. They have a date with the Sacramento Kings on Sunday in the Summer League title game. Charlotte has not released any information on Knueppel's injury or whether or not he will play in the Hornets' last Summer League game. Knueppel is the face of a 2025 Hornets draft class that includes Liam McNeely, Sion James, and Ryan Kalkbrenner. If their efforts in Summer League are any indication, Charlotte could have one of the best groups of rookies in the league. Collin Sexton breaks silence after trade to Hornets

The post Collin Sexton breaks silence after trade to Hornets appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Charlotte Hornets scored big when they acquired Collin Sexton from the Utah Jazz. Even without securing the talents of Chris Paul, the Hornets aren't complaining. Consequently, Sexton is ecstatic about this new opportunity and has expressed as much, according to Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer. 'Super grateful for the opportunity. Ready to come in and help build the culture and be a leader right away,' Sexton said. 'I feel like the last couple of weeks practicing and stuff, it's been a lot of fun but also getting used to the guys.' Last year, Sexton finished his third season with the Jazz. Altogether, he averaged 18.4 points and 4.2 assists per game. Sexton is entering a team full of young talent, including Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, and LaMelo Ball. He is in attendance in Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League and emphasized the importance of supporting the newcomers. 'That is something that we've talked about,' he said. 'We want as many guys here to support the younger guys. As you can see, we've had an excellent turnout.' Additionally, Sexton discussed creating a family atmosphere with the Hornets. 'Whether it's on the court, off the court, whether you have questions about basketball, about life, we all are here, and it's a brotherhood,' Sexton said. 'We've got to pick up one another, and when someone is down, be there to encourage them when they need it.' In addition to leadership, Sexton is a stellar scorer and playmaker. He can drive to the basket and can finish consistently. Furthermore, Sexton can get the best out of his players with added assist totals this past year. Meanwhile, the Hornets are coming off a 19-63 season. They aim to ignite a spark for this band of young guns. Sexton is expected to deliver in that realm.
