Lamborghini to narrow customer team focus when new Temerario GT3 arrives
Lamborghini's technical director Rouven Mohr has revealed that a new approach to customer GT racing will be adopted by the Italian brand next year when the Temerario GT3 makes its debut.
'We have changed our philosophy a little bit. In the future, we want to concentrate more on performance-oriented teams where the ambition fits ours,' Mohr said.
'Less, in this case, is more. In the past, we were a bit wider spread. In the future, because the level of GT3 is very competitive, we want to concentrate our support with the maximum level of support to fewer teams than in the past.'
Lamborghini is fresh from a hugely successful 2024 season with the Huracan GT3 EVO II. Highlights included a dominant British GT Championship title win with Barwell Motorsport and a maiden DTM championship triumph with German team SSR Performance. The current car clearly has a lot still to give, thus, the Italian marque feels a commitment to 'quality over quantity' for the rollout of its forthcoming flagship customer GT car makes the most sense.
There will be a phased introduction for the new car into key championships – with programs in Europe, Asia and North America targeted. However, concrete decisions are still yet to be made on which teams will receive cars first and where they will race. A final judgement, according to Mohr, will come after Q3 this year while the Temerario GT3 is undergoing testing.
'It all depends on how fast the progress of the car is, what the strengths are,' he continued. 'The first step is on our shoulders then for sure later we will bring teams on board and then it depends a little bit which championships we are targeting.
'You can be sure that in the middle of the year, we will see test activities. This is something we take very seriously because, on one hand, we are not in a hurry to replace the current car, but on the other, requests for new GT3 cars on our side, are immense. And since the Huracan is running out of production, for sure, we are not bringing additional race cars more or less, on the grid.'
An obvious choice for 2026 would be to debut the car at IMSA's blue-riband endurance event, the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona, in January. At this point, though, Mohr feels it's too early to say whether or not that would be possible.
'I wouldn't say it's the idea, but it would be a dream,' he said. 'Sometimes dreams come true, sometimes not. If you ask me if we would like to, 'yes', but it has to make sense.
'We are not going to Daytona if we have too many problems we know about. To start at Daytona with a new car is a tough challenge. Some manufacturers decide to skip Daytona and enter a bit later.'
It's also too early to speculate whether or not we will see Lamborghini back in the FIA WEC's LMGT3 class any time soon. Following its exit from the ACO and FIA's globetrotting championship at the end of the 2024 season, Mohr downplayed suggestions that the Temerario GT3 will line up on the grid at the first opportunity.
'Unfortunately, it depends on LMDh. There is a link,' he said. 'It's not for granted that you can run the GT3 without LMDh. We are focused on the programmes we have today. And for sure next year with the Temerario GT3 it will only be on selected race series because it's the learning curve of the car.
'We will go step by step. At the moment, if you ask me, LMGT3, I would say 'no' even if you can say never say never. I think it's too early to do it. If we are in WEC it's a different story but to be honest, let's see. First, we consider an improvement of the LMDh, then if we are competitive and we find interest from a team to re-enter WEC, then let's see. LMGT3 is the third question.'
Before the Temerario arrives there's the not-so-small matter of the 2025 season to get through.
Lamborghini will continue to have a presence in GT World Challenge Europe's Pro class this year, and the Huracan GT3 EVO II will compete in both Intercontinental GT Challenge 24-hour races at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring. At least one car and team will be entered into each of the two races, which will be held back-to-back in June, the weekend after the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Mohr also stressed that Lamborghini 'has no ambition to cut' its DTM program after winning the 2024 title.

French Open: No. 1 Sinner plays Djokovic and defending champ Alcaraz faces Musetti in semis
PARIS (AP) — It is unusual to think of Novak Djokovic as not being the favorite to win a French Open semifinal, given that his greatest clay-court rival Rafael Nadal has retired. After all, Djokovic has won three titles at Roland-Garros among his men's record 24 Grand Slams. He also owns prestigious winning head-to-head records against 22-time major winner Nadal (31-29) and 20-time major champion Roger Federer (27-23). Yet, when Djokovic faces Jannik Sinner on Friday for a place in Sunday's final, against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain or No. 8-seeded Lorenzo Musetti, the favorite could be Sinner. Top-ranked Sinner has beaten Djokovic in their past three meetings and four of the past five, including in the 2024 Australian Open semifinals. The Italian is 4-4 against him and 15 years younger than Djokovic, who is 38. Given this, and Djokovic's early losses in Doha, Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Madrid, his title chances were subdued before the French Open. 'He's a bit underrated,' 2024 French Open runner-up Alexander Zverev said after losing to Djokovic in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. 'A lot of people count him out already. But this year he's had wins over Carlos (Alcaraz) at the Australian Open, he has had a win over me at the French Open. Forget the age.' Losing the match, including a 41-stroke exchange, convinced Zverev that Djokovic was far from a spent force. Just before the French Open, Djokovic won his 100th career title. 'The way I won the tournament definitely helped me mentally approach Roland-Garros in a better way,' Djokovic said. 'I think the win against Alcaraz in quarters of Australian Open, to win quarters against Zverev (on Wednesday) proves to myself and others that I can still play on the highest level, and I just thrive on these occasions.' So does Sinner, the Australian Open champion, who is 3-0 in major finals. 'Jannik is in tremendous form, and he has been the best player for the last couple of years,' Djokovic said. 'But these kind of matchups and challenges extract the best out of me. Playing best of five, late stages of a Grand Slam against No. 1 in the world, you can't get more motivated than that for me at this age.' Sinner thinks Djokovic presents the same threat as always. 'He has shown in the last period that he is back to the level,' Sinner said. 'He's such an experienced player, 24 Grand Slams. I think that says everything.' What is Musetti's record against Alcaraz? This will be their seventh meeting in what could blossom into a big rivalry. The 23-year-old Musetti beat Alcaraz on clay in the 2022 Hamburg final, but has lost five straight matches to him since then, including three on clay. The 22-year-old Alcaraz is chasing a second French Open title and fifth major overall. Alcaraz beat Musetti twice on clay this season — in the Italian Open semifinals and the Monte Carlo Masters final. 'He just joined a really short (list) that made at the least the semifinals of the big events in the clay season,' Alcaraz said. 'It's going to be great for the people to watch.' Djokovic needed four sets in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals, as did Musetti against Frances Tiafore. But Alcaraz, the No. 2 seed, and Sinner saved valuable energy with straight-sets wins. 'We've seen Sinner really destroy people lately. And I guess today was Carlos' turn,' No. 12 Tommy Paul said after his quarterfinal defeat to Alcaraz. 'Both of them are playing at an extremely high level right now.' Seven-time major winner John McEnroe said Djokovic looked 'unbelievable' at 38, that his serve, his volleying were 'better than ever' and his hunger was undiminished. Still, he thought he and Musetti faced a tall order. 'If Sinner or Alcaraz bring their A game I think it's going to be really difficult to win,' said McEnroe, who is working on French Open telecasts for TNT Sports. "(Musetti's) done everything he can do, he's got fitter ... He's clearly better than he's ever been, but the problem is so is Alcaraz.' ___ AP tennis:

Motta offered to Inter Milan as Fabregas talks collapse
Inter Milan's search for a new manager appears to be leading nowhere after their talks with Como gaffer Cesc Fabregas fell through. Fabregas has been chosen as the top target to lead Nerazzurri's project after Simone Inzaghi recently joined Saudi giants Al-Hilal for a lucrative offer. Advertisement However, Como president Mirwan Suwarso has made it clear that they will not sell the Spaniard, who helped the newcomers to an impressive tenth-placed finish in the 2024/25 season. Italian Journalist Nicolo Schira claims that ex-Juventus manager Thiago Motta has been offered to Inter through an intermediary. Motta rose to prominence after guiding Bologna to the Champions League qualification in the 2023/24 season, which helped him land a job with Juventus. But his time with the Bianconeri didn't pan out well. A series of humiliating results led to his sacking in March, with Igor Tudor named as his replacement. Advertisement Despite starting well, Motta's short stint in Turin was marked by inconsistent performances in both Serie A and Europe and a falling out with the players. A former Inter player and part of the historic treble-winning side in 2010 under Jose Mourinho, Motta could be tempted to return to San Siro. Inter have also lined up Genoa's Patrick Vieira as one of the alternatives for the managerial position. The former Crystal Palace boss led Genoa to a 13th-place finish in the recently concluded Serie A campaign. Cristian Chivu is also on Inter's wishlist, but the chances of his arrival are slim as Parma are in talks to extend his contract. Inter looked on course to win a treble this season, but only to squander everything in the space of a month. They will kick off their Club World Cup campaign against Monterrey this month.
