A huge amount of sludge fell on a road in Uttarakhand after a 'nala' (drain) overflowed during heavy rainfall on Monday, leaving many vehicles stuck and people, including tourists, stranded. The incident took place near the Kangchenjunga Glacier, which is waterlogged every year during the monsoon.
A video shows two-wheelers and four-wheelers trying to wade through the sludge-filled flooded road. Two to three people were seen pushing an MUV with a woman and a driver sitting inside the car. A truck also got stuck on the road.
Uttarakhand has been witnessing heavy rainfall since the start of this month, causing many landslides and road blockages.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red' alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand today. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, the weather office also predicted lightning accompanied with strong winds in some areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.
All schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun remained shut today.
An 'orange' alert for heavy rainfall has been issued in some parts of Dehradun and Uttarkashi districts on July 22.
The IMD has also sent letters to the district magistrates directing them to remain on alert and take necessary precautions.

"In the next 24 hours, a low-pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal, and its impact will be visible in the Konkan region of Maharashtra," RMC official Shubhangi Bhute said. The weather department has issued the orange alert for Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday. A yellow alert was issued for the three districts on Friday. The IMD has sounded the red alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday. The red alert has been maintained for the three districts on Friday also. The Met department has issued a red alert for ghat areas of Satara, Pune and Kolhapur districts on Thursday, and the ghat regions of Satara and Pune on Friday. The IMD on Wednesday forecast heavy rain in south Bengal from July 24 to 28 owing to the likely formation of a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in some sub-Himalayan districts from July 25 to 28, the IMD said. Districts including North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, and Purulia are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places. Other south Bengal districts may also receive isolated heavy showers during the period. Kolkata is likely to see heavy rain on July 25, the IMD added.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood warning for nine districts in Telangana, cautioning of moderate to high flood risk in the next 24 hours. The alert, based on the IMD's Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin, remains in effect until 11.30 a.m. on Thursday (July 24, 2025). The nine districts Districts under the flash flood risk include Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Jagtial, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Kamareddy. 'Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with intense spells at times accompanied with gusty winds are very likely to occur in the city towards evening or night. Hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29°C and 23°C respectively,' as per the bulletin.
