Modi governance a turning point in devpt: Purandeswari
Rajamahendravaram: BJP state president and Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari stated that the past 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance have significantly transformed India's development landscape, bringing the benefits of progress directly to the people.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP office here on Sunday, she said Modi, having personally experienced poverty, introduced numerous schemes focused on the welfare of the poor after assuming office in 2014. 'His tenure has seen a balanced emphasis on both development and welfare,' she noted, adding that the PM is moving ahead with an unwavering commitment to achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
She said that before 2014, only 7 crore people had access to banking. Thanks to the Jan Dhan Yojana, over 55 crore people now benefit from banking services. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, safe drinking water has reached 15 crore people, and 12 crore toilets were built under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Purandeswari also spoke of key welfare schemes like the Ayushman Bharat health insurance programme, which has provided healthcare worth Rs 1.3 lakh crore to 9 crore citizens, and affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi stores.
Reports by IMF, UNDP, and World Bank have affirmed that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty and poverty rates have dropped by 25%, she said.
She praised digital governance, citing that 49 per cent of global digital payments now happen in India, with 95 crores smartphones in use nationwide.
She credited direct benefit transfers (DBT) for curbing corruption and ensuring transparency.
On Andhra Pradesh, she criticised the previous government's neglect of Amaravati but welcomed the current state government's renewed focus. She noted the Centre's Rs 15,000 crore funding through the World Bank and Rs 11,000 crore from HUDCO for Amaravati, in addition to Rs 20,000 crore for regional connectivity are making Amaravati a reality.
She also spoke of Centre's continued support for the Polavaram project and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. On a diplomatic front, she expressed pride in being part of India's diplomatic delegation post-Operation Sindoor, visiting six nations, including the UK, Germany, and France to counter global misinformation on terrorism.
At the end of the event, Purandeswari was felicitated by MLC Somu Veerraju, BJP district president P. Nagendra, and other leaders.

The penultimate day of campaign for the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, scheduled on June 19, on Monday threw traffic out of gear, creating chaos, confusion and tense moments. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal launched his roadshow at Jawahar Nagar Camp and moved towards the road opposite ESI Hospital near the bus stand. Despite intermittent rains, the show of strength continued uninterrupted, with Sukhbir standing in an open SUV, greeting people alongside the route. When the SAD roadshow approached Fountain Chowk, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally was in progress there. To avoid a direct clash, the SAD procession was diverted via Sutlej Club road before rejoining the original route at Fountain Chowk and then towards Rani Jhansi road. At one point, the SAD roadshow passed close to the AAP rally venue, prompting supporters from both sides to raise slogans in support of their respective parties. The AAP rally had party candidate Sanjeev Arora, senior Dalit leader Vijay Danav, a former SAD member, star campaigner Rakhi Birla among others present at the venue. AAP leaders also organised a bike rally starting from fountain chowk amid rain. Speaking on the occasion Rakhi Birla said,' overwhelming public response clearly indicates that Arora will win the seat by a huge margin. She said the voters are not just electing an MLA, but a future Cabinet Minister, as both AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann have already endorsed Arora's elevation post-election. She praised Arora as a hardworking, development-focused leader who is personally reaching out to every voter in the constituency.' Addressing party supporters, Sukhbir said, 'The massive response to our roadshow proves the people of Ludhiana are fed up with Congress's gundagardi candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu and the complete failure of the AAP government in resolving their issues. Development is at an all-time low, with no civic works being undertaken in the city in the past eight years. The SAD is known for carrying out speedy development, be it flyovers or the Southern bypass, all major infrastructure development came up during the SAD tenure.' However, the situation grew complicated as the SAD roadshow proceeded further through Rani Jhansi road and towards Ghumar Mandi, with its final destination being Aarti Chowk. Due to the rain and route diversions, the roadshow was delayed, leading to another heated face-off between SAD and BJP supporters near Ghumar Mandi around 7 pm, with both sides raising their party slogans. To prevent escalation, BJP's former state president Avinash Rai Khanna instructed party workers to halt briefly near Shenshah Palace, allowing the SAD procession, which concluded at Aarti Chowk by around 7.15 pm, paving the way for the BJP roadshow. The BJP roadshow had their state president Sunil Jakhar, Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur, union minister of state Ravneet Singh Bittu, BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta among others which started from Shahenshah palace on Ferozepur road and travelled across Ghumar Mandi. Anurag Thakur said that AAP people first looted the people of Delhi. 'When the people of Delhi rejected them, now they have turned towards Punjab. Sunil Jakhar said that seeing the huge crowd in the road show, it seems that the people of Ludhiana have accepted Jiwan Gupta even before the voting. BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta said,' in three and a half years, the AAP government did not do any concrete work for the development of the constituency. Now in one and a half years, with which Aladdin's lamp will the area be developed?'

India pharma market grows 6.9 pc in May, chronic therapies lead
New Delhi: The India pharma market (IPM) grew 6.9 per cent (on-year) in May, driven by strong outperformance in cardiac, respiratory, and anti-diabetes therapies, a report showed on Tuesday. In May, Indian companies grew 6.6 per cent, while MNCs grew 8.4 per cent YoY. Acute therapy growth stood at 5 per cent in May, the second consecutive month of muted YoY growth, according to the report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. For the 12 months ending in May, IPM growth was led by price/new launches/volume growth of 4.2 per cent/2.3 per cent/1.1 per cent YoY. As of May, the Indian pharma companies held a majority share of 83 per cent in IPM, with the remaining held by multi-national pharma companies (MNCs). In May, among the top 20 pharma companies, JB Chem (up 11.6 per cent YoY), Glenmark (up 11.8 per cent YoY), and Ajanta (up 10.6 per cent YoY) recorded higher growth rates vs IPM. Ajanta outperformed IPM, led by strong double-digit growth across key therapies like Anti Diabetic/Ophthal. JB Chemicals outperformed IPM, led by a strong show in Cardiac/Ophthal/Anti Parasitic. On a MAT basis, the industry reported 7.6 per cent YoY growth. Chronic therapies witnessed 10 per cent YoY growth, while acute therapies displayed 5 per cent YoY growth in May, said the report. Meanwhile, India's pharmaceutical industry, which has emerged as the largest supplier of affordable generic medicines, is poised to grow at 7.8 per cent year-on-year in April 2025 driven by strong demand and new products, according to experts at India Ratings. The country's pharma sector is now ranked 3rd in volume and 14th in value globally and contributes as much as 20 per cent of the world's supply of medicines. The turnover of the Indian pharma industry touched Rs 4,17,345 crore in 2023-24 growing steadily at over 10 per cent annually for the past five years.
