EastEnders star suddenly died at just 38 leaving family devastated
The actor who played Asif Mailk in EastEnders tragically passed away at the age of 38. But a web page set up for charity in his memory is still receiving donations, more than three years later.
Ashvin Luximon played Asif, a school friend of Martin Fowler's, on the BBC One soap from September 1999 to October 2003. Asif and Martin (James Alexandrou) were known for getting into trouble around the Square, almost always leaving Martin alone to explain his wrongdoings to his mum, Pauline (Wendy Richard). He went on to have a relationship with Nicky di Marco (Carly Hillman), as well as having a crush on Janine (Charlie Brooks), before passing his A-Levels and leaving Walford for university.
Ashvin also starred on children's TV show Grange Hill and appeared in a promotional video for British Airways, but sadly died of an aneurysm on 23 July, 2022. Health website Mayoclinic.org describes an aneurysm as: "a bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel. An aneurysm can break open. This is called a rupture. A ruptured aneurysm causes bleeding inside the body. It often leads to death." In more recent news, a man, 30, put shoulder pain down to gym aches, then doctors asked where he'd like to die.
The talented actor's family paid tribute to him at the time and set up the memorial site where fans could donate to the NSPCC or Andy's Man Club in his honour. "This site is a tribute to Ash, who passed on the 23rd July 2022 due to an aneurysm," they wrote. "Ash's unexpected passing has hit us all hard, but we want to take the time to remember his larger than life spirit."
Ashvin's family added: "He loved and was loved by so many. He sang a mean karaoke tune and had a voice loud enough to hear from space! He brought laughter and the best cuddles. Please use this space to share thoughts, photos and memories. Please be respectful. "As a family we would like to ask anyone who would have made a floral tribute to instead donate to our chosen charities, the NSPCC (Ash was the ultimate Uncle) and Andy's Man Club ( a charity aimed at helping men talk)."
The tribute page has raised £1,573.12, with the latest donation of £25 coming on the sad anniversary of his untimely death, just weeks ago. "Ash sweetheart life is unbearable without you and we miss you desperately," wrote the contributor. "Your big warm hugs and your loud voice are still with use. We love you forever darling."
His funeral service took place at Enfield Crematorium on the morning of 11 August, with the family encouraging attendees not to wear black. Instead, they requested that people wear colourful attire to celebrate the late actor's life "just as he would want us to".
Following the service, mourners gathered at The Cavalier pub in Barnet, where they continued to celebrate his 38 years.
The Enfield-born performer studied at Bowden's Theatre School during his teenage years before moving on to Chase Community School to complete his GCSEs. He subsequently pursued an acting career.
In 2004, audiences discovered that his EastEnders character had settled in Edinburgh and was preparing for marriage.

Suki stunned in EastEnders early BBC iPlayer release as Avani makes her choice
This article contains spoilers for tonight's episode of EastEnders, which airs on BBC One at 7.30pm or can be streamed now on iPlayer. Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) has made her own decision regarding her pregnancy, leaving grandmother Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) shocked to the core. As viewers have seen so far, a troubled Avani confided in best mate Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) about her pregnancy fears. She was terrified by the prospect of raising twisted Joel Marshall's (Max Murray) child, and knew that she'd have to take a test to confirm whether or not she was expecting. In the office at Harry's Barn, her worst nightmare was confirmed – the test was positive. Avani immediately made plans to terminate the pregnancy, asking Barney to help her source abortion pills online. He told her she'd have to use legal methods – so she set about doing some research. Suki noticed her looking at a clinic online, and came up with an alternative solution. She noted that it could be Avani's only chance to have a child, and she didn't want her to regret it. The teen remained firm on her decision, and was prepared to open up to mum Priya (Sophie Khan Levy) and dad Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) about her ordeal. At the abortion clinic, Suki convinced Avani that it might be best if she were to raise the child as her own alongside wife Eve (Heather Peace) – who she hadn't consulted. When Eve found out, she was under the belief that Avani had purposely got pregnant in order to provide a child for Suki. As tensions began to rise, she branded the situation as abuse. Suki was incredulous to see her wife escalating the row, comparing her attitude to wicked ex-husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry). This week, Eve could see how much the pregnancy was already starting to have an impact on Avani's physical and mental health. She was suffering from morning sickness and body confidence issues, hiding away in the corner at Amy Mitchell's (Ellie Dadd) hot tub party. Sitting the teen down, she insisted that considered herself and what she wanted before anyone else. It became immediately clear that Avani didn't want to upset Suki, and actually wanted an abortion. In today's episode, the two created a fake story, saying that they were spending the day together working and would be heading to the suppliers. Suki was suspicious, but didn't think that they would go as far to betray her wishes. At the clinic, Eve spoke openly about the abandonment issues with her family, and Avani considered whether she'll be on her own when the news of her 'baby loss' was revealed. Eve reassured her that everything would be ok, unaware that back in Albert Square, Suki had decided to come clean to Ravi and Priya without their knowledge. More Trending However, in a killer twist, Avani and Eve managed to reach them before she did, and as Suki walked into the room, she discovered that there was no longer a baby. A furious Ravi stood in the corner of the room, clearly ready to unleash his inner anger. View More » How will Suki take the news? Experts issue warning to Brit parents over the Labubu toys & the simple trick to check you haven't bought a ‘dodgy doll'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT'S one of the most sought-after buys of this year. But now Brit parents have been issued an urgent warning over the viral Labubu toys. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Labubus have captured the heart of the internet and have sparked a frenzy Credit: AP 3 British authorities have seized hundreds of thousands of counterfeits - which can also pose a serious health risk Credit: 3 Authorities in the UK have started issuing warnings about the dupes Credit: Intellectual Property Labubus are undoubtedly the toy of 2025 - with big names, such as Rihanna, David Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Gemma Collins and Olivia Attwood showing off the little monsters. With their devilish toothy grins and wide eyes, Labubus have captured the heart of the internet and have sparked a frenzy, with mile-long queues lining up to get their hands on the toys. A single doll can set you back anywhere from £13.50 to £211 depending on the rarity of the design. But dodgy dealers looking to make a quick buck are using underhand tactics to profit off shoppers - and experts have warned the dodgy dolls pose a serious risk. The ''dangerous counterfeits'' could pose a choking hazard for children, Hull City Council's Trading Standards team told Mail Online. Rogue traders are cashing in on their popularity by selling poor-quality versions with small parts that can easily detach. Hundred have been seized, but it is feared there could be many more still on sale across the nation. However, there are also easy ways to check if you have purchased a fake Labubu. The dodgy dolls tend to have matt packaging rather than glossy and more or less than the nine gnashers the original Labubus have. A different shape or size of the mouth can also be an indicator you've bought a dangerous counterfeit. Dramatic moment crowds join massive queue to grab viral Labubu dolls as latest doll craze sweeps across the world The quality of a fake Labubu will also be of poorer standard, like wobbly limbs and odd colours. To really know if you've got the real deal, buyers of newer editions will find a UV-detectable seal on the right foot. Under UV light, shoppers should see a silhouette of the specific Labubu model. It's understood more than 100,000 counterfeit dolls have already been seized by UK Border Force, arriving in the country in fast parcels or via air cargo. What are Labubu and why are they so popular? LABUBU is a brand of plushies designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung and loved by celebrities like Olivia Attwood, Dua Lipa and Rihanna. The brand made its debut in 2015, but skyrocketed in global popularity after hitting Pop Mart shelves in 2019. Pop Mart is a Chinese toy retailer, known for its collectible designer models that are often sold in a blind box format, meaning you don't know what you've got until you've opened it. After mammoth success overseas, the Labubu craze has now made its way to the UK. The first three months of 2025 were wildly successful for the brand, with Brits searching high and low to nab one of the quirky figurines. Since opening stores in London and Manchester over the last 12 months, Labubu dolls have become cult collectibles among grown British women. Labubus come in an array of vibrant colours, unique shapes and various sizes, spanning from plush toys to striking vinyl figures. They come as little toys you can hook on your handbag, as well as mega-sized figures and quirky home decorations. The "monster elves" are sold in blind boxes, meaning consumers can't see their new doll until it is unwrapped. This clever marketing tactic designed to build suspense has been deliberately exploited by counterfeiters who are packing the boxes with cheap dupes. The fake dolls are known as Lafufus and they are flooding the global market - selling for as little as £2.99. Councils have warned that children in Scotland and Wales have fallen ill following exposure to the dolls. Helen Barnham, Deputy Director of Enforcement at the Intellectual Property Office, told The Sun: "We're seeing criminals increasingly exploit viral toy trends, with counterfeit versions of popular products appearing within days of them going viral. "These counterfeit toys are unlikely to have undergone the rigorous safety testing required for genuine products and can pose serious safety risks. "Children's safety must always come first, and we encourage parents to always research products thoroughly and only purchase from trusted sources."
