Is ChatGPT down? Major global outage reported; Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, and Claude are the top alternatives

Time of India21 hours ago
OpenAI
's widely used chatbot, ChatGPT, suffered a global outage on Tuesday (July 15), leaving millions of users unable to access its services. The recurring nature of these disruptions, including a major incident on June 10, 2025, has intensified concerns about the reliability of the platform and spurred a greater interest in alternative AI solutions.
The latest outage, which began slowly around 3 am ET and saw a sharp spike in user complaints around 5:30 am ET, affected users across the United States, India, and other global regions. Reports on platforms like DownDetector surged, with over 1,000 complaints logged during peak disruption.
Users encountered error messages such as "something went wrong," "error in the message stream," and the specific "Too many concurrent requests" message, indicating a potential overload on OpenAI's systems.

The issues were not limited to the ChatGPT website and apps but also impacted OpenAI's video generation tool, Sora, and its APIs, critical for developers.
OpenAI swiftly acknowledged the problem on its status page, stating it had identified the root cause by 9:07 am ET and was working on a fix. By 10:54 am ET, the company confirmed that some services, particularly the API, were slowly recovering, though full restoration across all tools like ChatGPT and Sora was anticipated to take "a few more hours."
Live Events
While OpenAI indicates a gradual return to service for some users, the recurring nature of these incidents, including the June 10 disruption, which lasted over 10 hours in some regions, raises questions about the scalability and robustness of the platform.

Fraudsters pose as SBI staffers, cheat man of Rs 42 lakh in investment scam

Noida: A man filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime police, alleging that he was cheated of more than Rs 40 lakh in a fake stock market investment scheme run through WhatsApp by persons posing as officials from SBI Securities. In his FIR, the complainant named Suraj Gupta and Richard Mendonka as the two people behind the scam. According to the complaint, he first received a message on May 18 that SBI Securities was launching a closed WhatsApp group for block trading and IPO applications at discounted rates, with "promised daily profits of 5–10%". The message instructed him to contact a WhatsApp number for further details. After initiating contact, he was told that the trading plan was part of a "premium profit plan" only for selected people. The representatives allegedly claimed that the group was approved by SEBI for trading and said there would be no upfront charges; only a 0.03% commission per transaction. A set of rules was shared: block trading would take place after market closure at 3.30pm; share quantities would depend on available funds and share prices; each trade would require a secret code; all trades were to be done via the provided website. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Between June 2 and 30, the man transferred Rs 42.3 lakh to various accounts. MC doesn't plan to spend a rupee on parking pass rollout in Chandigarh

1 2 Chandigarh: In a move aimed at simplifying parking and boosting revenue without spending a rupee, the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has fast-tracked a proposal to roll out monthly parking pass system for all paid parking lots across the city. The plan? Rs 500 for four-wheelers and Rs 250 for two-wheelers — one pass, unlimited access. To make this happen, the MC plans to partner with a bank that will handle the tech side of things — from payment gateways to app development — ensuring a smooth, tamper-proof system. Senior MC officials, including the municipal commissioner and representatives from the parking and engineering wings, recently met with bank officials to fine-tune the proposal. The plan includes issuing stickers to pass holders, allowing them to enter parking lots without the hassle of collecting slips. Non-pass users will continue with the traditional ticketing system. The initiative is expected to be discussed and approved in the upcoming General House meeting later this month before being rolled out citywide. A senior MC official said, "We're offering a citywide pass at a very reasonable rate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like あなたの家の適正価格を知ろう HOME4U 詳細 Undo A survey is already underway, and about 70% of respondents have shown interest. We're optimistic about the response." The passes will be available both online and at e-Sampark centres for public convenience. The selected bank will also develop a mobile app to streamline the process and prevent misuse. The Numbers Behind the Move According to MC estimates, around 5 lakh four-wheelers and 1 lakh two-wheelers use paid parking lots in Chandigarh every month. Even if just 50,000 commuters opt for the new pass, the MC could generate Rs 30 crore annually — a significant jump from the current monthly profit of Rs 50 lakh. Currently, the MC sells around 5,000 passes a month, each valid for just one parking lot at ₹420. The new system promises not just convenience for commuters but a major revenue boost for the city — all without additional expenditure.

Auda's past plans erode Ahmedabad's urban lakes

Ahmedabad: Several ponds and lakes across the city have witnessed a significant reduction in their land area due to past Town Planning (TP) schemes drafted by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA)—despite state govt policy prohibiting such reductions, sources have revealed. Areas such as Thaltej, Bopal, Memnagar, Vastrapur, and Charodi—once under AUDA's jurisdiction—have recorded shrinking lake and pond areas after being integrated into the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) limits. According to official sources, AUDA's TP scheme drafts—originally prepared for village lands that were later merged into the city—reduced the designated land for several water bodies. In at least five cases, the final plot area allotted for ponds was smaller than the original, leading to long-term disputes and stalled development. You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad For instance, in Bopal, AUDA's TP Scheme No. 2 shows the village lake's original area as 46,438 sq m, but the final plot was reduced to 44,432 sq m. Similarly, in Vastrapur TP Scheme No. 1, the pond—developed by AUDA nearly two decades ago—was originally allocated 73,957 sq m, but the final plot was only 51,761 sq m. In Thaltej, the situation is more complex. AUDA's TP Scheme No. 38 combined four original plots—three containing ponds and one with village land—into a single final plot. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo While the total original area was 1,54,692 sq m, the final plot was reduced to 1,12,642 sq m. This has led to disputes over the exact size and boundaries of the Thaltej pond. The AMC has not yet taken possession of the land, and illegal encroachments continue to block development. An AUDA official, speaking anonymously, explained that during TP scheme drafting, a standard 40% land deduction was applied even to government lands—including ponds, wastelands, and grazing lands. This often resulted in merged or reshaped water body plots, inadvertently reducing the functional area of ponds. An AMC official clarified that, as per state government directives, no reduction or reshaping of pond land is allowed in TP schemes. "However, AUDA's earlier TP drafts did reduce and reshape pond areas. In finalized schemes where this has already occurred, no further changes can be made," the official said. Authorities now claim that new TP schemes comply with the no-reduction policy, but past decisions continue to pose legal and environmental challenges, with encroachments and disputes delaying the conservation and development of critical urban water bodies.
