Tom Brady feels NIL is creating ‘messed up' values for NFL rookies
The seven-time Super Bowl champion, now in his first year as a FOX NFL analyst, during an appearance on The Joel Klatt Show, shared, 'Their frontal lobes aren't even fully developed yet, and now we're tempting them with real-life, adult situations and their parents, and now they have agents.'
Since NIL rights came into effect in July 2021, college athletes have been able to profit from endorsements, sponsorships, and other commercial opportunities. For some, the earnings can surpass what they would make on a standard NFL rookie contract.

Tom Brady's view on the NFL's NIL deal
Plus, last month, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning pay-for-play NIL deals.
'I'm sure it's a very confusing time, and I'm sure a lot of parents are confused. I'm sure a lot of kids are confused, but because we're just talking about money, money, money, money, like, that's the only value in college. Is that what we're saying? That, to me, the priorities are a bit messed up,' Brady said.
'We're valuing the wrong things. I'm not saying it's not important. It's one of 10 things that are important, and certainly to me, it's not the most important.'
'So when kids do go through that the right way, they're actually learning the right values. When you have the right values in life, that's going to sustain you as you move on through the rest of your life,' he continued.

During the talk show, the seven-time Super Bowl champion credited his time at the University of Michigan, where he played from 1995 to 1999, before NIL rights existed. 'My college experience was very challenging. It was very competitive. Those traits transformed my life as a professional,' he said.

Cincinnati Bengals risk wasting Joe Burrow's prime amid Trey Hendrickson contract standoff
Trey Hendrickson's holdout could waste Joe Burrow's prime (Image via: Getty Images) The Cincinnati Bengals face a growing dilemma as star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson remains without a new contract. Despite attending practices and mentoring rookie first-round pick Shemar Stewart, Hendrickson isn't participating in team drills. With the season fast approaching, his absence from full action could prove costly for a team built to contend for a Super Bowl. Trey Hendrickson's contract dispute threatens Cincinnati Bengals ' defense Hendrickson has been one of the NFL's most dominant edge rushers over the past two seasons, racking up an impressive 17.5 sacks in each campaign. On the open market, his production would command well over $30 million annually, nearly double the $16 million he's set to earn this year. He's still under contract, leaving him to either wait out the Bengals or force a trade. ESPN analyst Louis Riddick didn't hold back on Get Up, criticizing Cincinnati's front office for letting the standoff linger. He warned that failing to secure key players like Hendrickson 'contributes to wasting the prime of franchise quarterback Joe Burrow' and puts the Bengals at risk of falling behind elite NFL contenders. Joe Burrow Disappointed With Bengals Offense, Discusses Trey Hendrickson & Shemar Stewart Holdouts Cincinnati must fix Hendrickson dispute to protect Joe Burrow 's prime and title hopes Burrow, already established as one of the league's best quarterbacks, has elite weapons in Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and promising running back Chase Brown. However, the defense's inconsistency last season, even with Hendrickson on the field, was a major factor in Cincinnati missing the playoffs. Without Hendrickson disrupting opposing quarterbacks, the Bengals' defense could become a glaring weakness once again. His ability to collapse pockets and generate game-changing plays is crucial to keeping Cincinnati in the conversation for the Super Bowl. With Joe Burrow, the Bengals have a rare franchise quarterback who can keep them in the Super Bowl hunt. But in the NFL, a quarterback's prime doesn't last forever, and championship windows close quickly. If Trey Hendrickson's contract standoff drags on, defensive weaknesses could once again derail Cincinnati's elite offensive potential. Shedeur Sanders hurt, Dillon Gabriel to start vs. Eagles if healthy
Cleveland plans to start another rookie quarterback when the Browns visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday afternoon. HT Image If third-round pick Dillon Gabriel's hamstring holds up through joint practices with the Eagles this week, he'll take his turn as Cleveland's QB1 following a strong debut from fifth-round quarterback Shedeur Sanders last week. "The plan was always to give both of those guys starts in the preseason, so we'll see how it shakes out," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday, adding Gabriel had to clear hurdles with a sore hamstring the next two days if he wants to take the field first this weekend. Stefanski made the comments before the team practiced on Wednesday, and prior to what could be an obstacle to Sanders building on his first outing and claiming a significant role. Sanders halted participation in throwing drills and appeared to be injured in Wednesday's joint practice with the Eagles, further complicating matters for Stefanski. The coach confirmed after practice to ESPN that Sanders' injury was related to discomfort in his oblique. Kenny Pickett, acquired from the Eagles in an offseason trade, is not available for 11-on-11 work because of a hamstring injury. There's only one quarterback on the roster who hasn't been sent to the training tent this summer. Cleveland hasn't committed to playing Joe Flacco, the purported No. 1 QB on the depth chart, in preseason games to preserve the 40-year-old's health. Gabriel was selected 94th overall in the 2025 draft after putting up big numbers at three college stops: UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon. Still on the board 50 picks later, the Browns chose Sanders to end a well-publicized draft weekend crash from projections of a top-50 draft rating. Gabriel said he won't put too much in the opportunity if he starts against the reigning Super Bowl champions. "I try to just stay in the moment. I'll look forward to that moment once it comes and be right where my feet are," Gabriel said. "The best competitors know how to stay present and be themselves by competing at a high level one play at a time." Sanders received high marks from Stefanski after the Browns' coaching staff reviewed the film of his two-TD showing in last Friday's win over the Carolina Panthers. "Certainly, for a quarterback, that next step is getting in the game settings and taking the practice field to the game. And I thought that's what we saw by and large from Shedeur (Sanders)," Stefanski said. "That's what we saw by and large from our offense was really taking those things that we're homing in on, on the practice field and then showing them in the games, and it goes back to the previous point where we want to vary our offense." --Field Level Media

Chop Robinson injury update: Dolphins star shares 5-word message for fans amid practice scare
Chop Robinson seems to be up and ok. The Miami Dolphins edge rusher was carted off during Wednesday's joint practice with the Detroit Lions. According to the Palm Beach Post, the 22-year-old was attended by defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and fellow edge rusher Jaelan Phillips before the cart arrived. The rookie was hurt when he forced a fumble by Lions running back David Montgomery. Miami Dolphins linebacker Chop Robinson (44) does drills during practice(AP) As fans were concerned about Robinson's injury, the rookie posted a positive update on social media. 'I'm good yall (sic) nothing serious," he said on his Instagram story. The Dolphins have faced several injury scares leading up to the 2025 season. Last year, Bradley Chubb spent all of his time on the sidelines as he recovered from a knee injury sustained in December 2023. Jaelan Phillips endured a difficult stretch of injuries, first tearing his ACL in Week 4, then suffering a torn Achilles just two months later. Star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are also among the players who were sidelined because of injuries. The two missed the first preseason game, and their status for Week 2 remains unclear. Dolphins placed Alexander Mattison on injured reserve on Monday after the running back suffered a season-ending neck injury vs the Chicago Bears. The veteran left Sunday's game with a neck injury after being tackled on a 21-yard pass play and landing awkwardly on his head in the fourth quarter. Coach Mike McDaniel said afterward that Mattison had some soreness in his neck and shoulder. First-round pick Chop Robinson, taken 21st overall in last year's NFL Draft, had a quiet start to his rookie campaign but finished with a flourish. The Penn State edge rusher notched six sacks over Miami's final 10 games, earning enough attention to place fifth in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
