Nagpur: The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has sent notices to the contractor firm BBG, Project Management Consultants (PMC), and four of its own officials on Monday, as two separate probes started into the slab collapse at the construction site of the VIP entrance at Koradi temple on Saturday.
The officials have to reply to the notices, which ask why action should not be taken against them, within 24 hours.
NMRDA has appointed a committee of four experts to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter. A separate committee under the district collector has been set up on the directions of revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
Sixteen workers, including four supervisors, had been injured in the slab collapse at the construction site of a gate as part of the development works at the Koradi temple pilgrimage site.
Even as investigations into the cause of the accident are starting, NMRDA on Monday announced Rs1 lakh aid to those injured, and Rs2 lakh to the seriously injured workers.
Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has ordered an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of collector Vipin Itankar. This committee includes executive engineer Rajesh Sontakke (water resources department), chief engineer Sambhaji Mane (public works department), superintending engineer Manish Patil, and expert RK Ingle (VNIT).

Bawankule has directed completion of the inquiry and submission of a report within 30 days.
NMRDA has also initiated action by appointing an independent committee. The panel will consider the fact that when the slab casting work started at night, no representative of NMRDA or the consultant was present at the site.
The NMRDA committee is headed by superintending engineer Abdul Javed (NMRDA), and includes executive engineer Lalit Raut, and deputy director of town planning Supriya Thul.
This committee will submit its report within a week.
Discussions about suspending some officials were underway in administrative circles on Monday, reliable sources from NMRDA said. Sources also said that an official decision in this regard will be taken in the next two days.
"The slab work was 80% complete. Suddenly the slab started moving. Before we could understand anything, we all fell on the safety net. However, Naresh Baghel fell on the road from a height and was injured seriously.
I had an injury to my waist. I was discharged from hospital on Monday, and doctors have advised rest," said an injured worker, Mukesh Vindane.
Dharmendra Patle, brother-in-law of seriously injured worker Naresh Baghel (age 30 years), said Baghel had been working in the construction sector for 6 years. Baghel underwent a surgery for his head injury, and has serious injuries to his hands and legs too. Currently, he is in ICU. "Company officials are ensuring treatment is done at their expense. Baghel was the sole earner in the family comprising his mother, wife and seven-month-old daughter.
Though originally from Balaghat, the family lives on rent at Jaripatka," said Patle.

Jarkiholi-Jolle camp regains edge over Katti faction in Hukkeri sugar plant

Belagavi: The ongoing political rivalry between the Jarkiholi-Jolle faction and the Katti family in Hukkeri taluka took a dramatic turn on Monday, with the board of management of Hiranyakeshi Sugar Factory, led by Basavaraj Kallatti, once again pledging its allegiance to the Jarkiholi-Jolle camp, delivering a significant blow to the Katti family. Founded in 1956 by cooperative stalwart Appanagouda Patil on the outskirts of Sankeshwar town, the factory was under the Katti family's control since 1995. However, in January 2025, the faction led by BJP's former MP Annasaheb Jolle and Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi wrested control, following the defection of seven directors. This led to the resignation of Nikhil Katti as chairman, ending the Kattis' three-decade dominance at the factory. The shift was largely driven by financial assurances from Jolle, who channeled funds through his Beereshwar Cooperative Credit Society. However, dissatisfaction over high interest rates prompted board members to approach local leaders Ramesh Katti and AB Patil, urging them to take charge of the factory. In a rare political alliance, long-time rivals Katti and Patil joined forces and regained control of the factory on July 29 this year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Online Skin Care Consultation - Learn More AskLayers Learn More Undo Yet, within 12 days, the factory once again slipped from their grasp and returned to the Jarkiholi-Jolle camp. Speaking to the media, vice-chairman Ashok Pattanashetti said: "The factory needs Rs 150 crore for smooth operations. We turned to Ramesh Katti and AB Patil, who had promised alternative sources of funding, but failed. Jolle's assistance is now crucial in getting the factory up and running." Commenting on the prevailing scenario, Annasaheb Jolle said: "The factory stands as a symbol of Appanagouda Patil's vision of the cooperative movement. My involvement, along with Balachandra Jarkiholi, is solely to uphold those ethos and ensure the factory's sustainability." Huge size and strength: Adult orcas, also known as killer whales, are some of the biggest hunters in the ocean and male orcas can grow as long as 9 to 10 metres and can weight more than 5 tonnes, reports TOI. Males have strikingly tall dorsal fins—sometimes reaching nearly 2 meters—which make them easy to spot in the water. Despite their size, orcas are swift and agile swimmers, effortlessly covering vast distances across the open ocean. Live Events Slow and steady pace of reproduction : Despite their fearsome reputation, orcas take a surprisingly patient approach to reproduction. Females typically begin giving birth in their early teens, but each pregnancy lasts an astonishing 17 months — one of the longest gestation periods among marine animals. Calves are born only once every several years, meaning populations recover slowly if numbers decline. Migratory in nature : Orcas are truly global travelers, inhabiting oceans from icy polar waters to warm tropical seas. Some pods remain in the same region year-round, while others roam thousands of kilometers, following seasonal patterns or the movements of prey. This mobility makes them valuable indicators of changes in ocean health. Diets depend on location : Their hunting styles are as diverse as their habitats. In some regions, they specialize in fish such as salmon; in others, they target seals, dolphins, or even other whales. What sets orcas apart is their intelligence and teamwork — using coordinated strategies like wave-hunting or synchronized attacks, with techniques passed down through generations. This transfer of learned behavior forms a rare example of animal culture.
