Prime Video viewers divided over 'chaotic' Eddie Murphy action comedy
Some fans already think it's worth watching for the cast alone
Prime Video viewers are divided over a new 'chaotic' action comedy starring Eddie Murphy.

It has also been hailed as the 'perfect heist comedy', ideal for a light-hearted watch this coming weekend. The Pickup, released on the streaming platform today (August 6), has also received criticism in its early reactions.

According to the synopsis of this action comedy, the film tracks the adventures of two mismatched armoured truck drivers, Russell and Travis. Their routine cash pickup takes an unexpected twist when they are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a cunning mastermind, Zoe.

The gang's plans extend far beyond merely seizing the truck's cash and cargo. Amidst the ensuing chaos, the unlikely pair must navigate perilous danger, conflicting personalities, and a progressively worsening day.

The cast boasts comedians and former Saturday Night Live stars Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson as Russell and Travis. They share the screen with Keke Palmer, who plays Zoe, while Eva Longoria also features alongside former Hellboy Jack Kesy, reports the Mirror.

Comic Andrew Dice Clay, ex-NFL star Marshawn Lynch, and WWE superstar Roman Reigns make cameo appearances. The Pickup was penned and directed by Tim Story, known for his work on the early Fantastic Four films for Fox and the Kevin Hart-led Ride Along movies.
Initial reviews have started surfacing online following the film's debut, and they present a rather divided picture. Whilst some viewers who have already seen the picture reckon it's perfect for casual entertainment, others express disappointment given the quality of performers involved.
One individual, posting their views online, declared: "The comedy is chaotic. The action is solid. The reason behind the heist? Deeply personal and honestly justified. Zoe's backstory brings the kind of emotional depth that gives this movie legs beyond the laughs."

They went on: "This isn't a slick Ocean's Eleven clone; it's messier, funnier, and anchored by a cast that makes it feel fresh. The Pickup delivers exactly what it promises: a good time, a little drama, and Keke Palmer being that girl from start to finish."
One reviewer commented: "With the hilarious trio of Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer, The Pickup is an absolute gem and the perfect heist comedy to stream."
Another remarked: "The Pickup is a typical heist film, but thanks to its electric cast and very well written action scenes, it is a hilarious joyride."

Nevertheless, others remained unconvinced, with one writing: "It's a fusion of car chase actioner and casino heist caper that aspires toward a wisecracking, Guy Ritchie-esque fusion of gunplay and laughs, but largely forgets its comedy mission along the way, while cribbing all of its action from superior entries."

Another viewer expressed their disappointment, stating: "I had high hopes that The Pickup would be a fun action-comedy, but it is just another mediocre project full of wasted potential."

Only time will reveal how The Pickup will be remembered by fans, as the initial release of the trailer sparked considerable excitement. Many viewers suggested it harked back to the comedies of the late 1990s and early 2000s, while others were eager to see the on-screen chemistry between Murphy and Davidson.
One particularly enthusiastic fan exclaimed: "This movie is a dream come true. All casting for this film is awesome!"
The Pickup is streaming on Prime Video.

Ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro makes huge demand

Ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro makes huge demand Former Strictly dancer Ian Waite believes fans of the show would love an all-stars season of the show The seasoned dancer is known for his stint on BBC's Saturday night hit from 2004 to 2010. (Image: BBC) A former Strictly Come Dancing star has expressed interest in seeing an all-stars season of the show. Ian Waite, the seasoned dancer who is best known for his stint on BBC's Saturday night hit from 2004 to 2010, has suggested that Strictly Come Dancing could entice viewers with a special series featuring returning couples. In an exclusive chat with BANG Showbiz, Ian shared his thoughts. He explained: "It's definitely something that they could look into because there's so much nostalgia." You can read what former Strictly dancer, Vincent Simone thinks about the show here. The dancer was partnered with numerous celebrities including Zoe Ball, Denise Lewis and singer Mica Paris whilst on his six years of Strictly Come Dancing. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . He reminisced about past partnerships, saying: "Everybody loves the old pros from Strictly and the nostalgia that goes around it with certain couples, let's say Darren (Bennett) and Jill Halfpenny and me and Zoe Ball, Vincent (Simone) with Rachel Stevens." Ian believes that bringing back iconic duos would be a hit. "There's a lot of couples that could possibly come back and yeah, an all-stars would be a great thing to do I think." Despite recent controversies surrounding the show, such as the grievances expressed by Sherlock star Amanda Abbington regarding her professional partner Giovanni Pernice during the 2023 season, Ian remains optimistic about the future. He trusts that new safeguarding measures will mitigate similar issues. Reflecting on his own experiences, he commented, "This is an isolated case I think. In general the pros are really professional and really hard-working. In my experience, we've all worked really hard, we've all done competitions, we're all at the top of our game and that's why we're on Strictly. "Hopefully the safeguarding is in place now so that that won't happen again and I think that's the best for everybody really because it protects not only the celebrities but it protects the pros - because who's to say we won't be abused." Ian is participating in The Return of the Legends tour alongside his former Strictly colleagues Brendan Cole, James Jordan, Pasha Kovalev and Vincent Simone. He has been pleasantly surprised by the strong camaraderie they've developed despite their competitive spirits. He expressed: "That's what's been so great, we've got this really great bromance backstage. "I wasn't really sure whether we'd all be able to bond because we've all done our own shows and been very successful performing in our shows. We weren't sure whether we'd be able to get on but actually it's like a proper bromance backstage and we all love each other. We all appreciate each other. ". The Return of the Legends tour will be heading to Llandudno's Venue Cymru and Cardiff's New Theatre later this year. I quit watching EastEnders but Zoe Slater's return will bring me back

When I rage-quit watching EastEnders in 2017, I really couldn't imagine a world where I'd be lured back. And then came the news two months ago that Michelle Ryan is returning as Zoe Slater. Lo and behold, it has me ready to recommit to the legendary British soap. EastEnders always felt like the pedigree of soaps. At its best, the acting and writing were unrivalled, and it had the ability to capture the entire nation. I'll never forget the excitement around 'Who Shot Phil?' I was knee-deep in EastEnders by then, but even people who didn't watch the show remember the moment when almost 20 million viewers discovered the culprit was Lisa. The only other event that could unite the nation like that was a World Cup final and we hadn't seen one of those in more than 30 years. Natalie Cassidy, Steve McFadden, Pam St. Clement, Lucy Benjamin, and Barbara Windsor were just some of the top-tier actors around this time, and they truly were some of the best of British TV. And then came a new family: The Slaters. Right at the height of the demonisation of 'chavs' and the end of the Spice Girls era, a new clan arrived in Albert Square and redefined 'girl power'. Kat, Lynne, Little Mo, and — who we believed at the time was their youngest sister — Zoe, were a tour de force unlike anything seen on any soap before. Joined by Charlie and nan 'Big' Mo, they took absolutely no prisoners, instantly became central to all the drama, and I can't think of another family in any soap since that captivated audiences so immediately. I didn't just care about the Slaters from the get-go, I loved them. Especially Zoe and Kat. Almost a year after the Slater family's arrival, Kat and Zoe were at the centre of what was easily the biggest rug-pull I'd ever seen on EastEnders by that point – the moment Zoe screeched, 'You ain't my muvva!' only for Kat to howl back, 'Yes I am!' I can't think of a scene with such extraordinary levels of absolutely sensational high camp. They don't get the credit they deserve, but there are few performances as remarkable as Jessie Wallace and Michelle Ryan's as Kat and Zoe. Their chemistry was dynamite, their shared history was painful, and the betrayal of that shock felt so real and so rich. This is especially impressive considering that, relative to other characters on EastEnders, we'd only just really got to know them. They were all survivors in their own right, and as a young gay kid, nothing got me more excited than the power of a strong woman. Zoe, especially. She was young, fun, and making mistakes I couldn't wait to make myself, with my teenage years just around the corner. Ryan was also an incredible talent — which is why Hollywood soon beckoned and she was cast as the lead in a reboot of Bionic Woman, leaving the Square in 2005. I was devastated but still I persisted. Stacey Slater has recently arrived and like every Slater before her came into her own almost immediately. Lacey Turner, for me, is the greatest EastEnders actor there's ever been and has been tried, tested and pushed to her limit more than any other. From her affair with Max to watching Bradley fall from the Queen Vic and caring for her mum Jean who was defined by he bipolar diagnosis for years, Stacey was a true Walford heroine who filled the void. But my interest waned and one storyline, in particular, devastated me. The moment I knew I was done with the show came on New Year's Day 2017. It was the day Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell were killed off — mercilessly bumped off in the two most inexplicable deaths I'd ever seen on EastEnders. They died in a hotel swimming pool. Roxy was apparently so drunk she was incapable of swimming, and Ronnie's dress was seemingly the weight of a sinking ship, so she drowned with her. As I write this now, I'm still so unreasonably angry about it. That episode tipped me over the edge. In what felt like the blink of an eye, what was once my favourite 30 minutes of the day became something I began to dread. So I stopped watching. But then I got the news that Michelle Ryan would be coming back, and suddenly I felt able to forgive and forget – put the last eight years behind me. Everything about her return has been EastEnders gold. From Kat snapping at her son Tommy 'I'm your muvva' moments before the big reveal of Zoe, to the sheer shock of it. Zoe's gone off the rails, Stacey's kept her in hiding and dragged Alfie into another mess he can't afford. Zoe's talent is causing trouble; during her brief return earlier this summer she caused plenty of it. Lying, drinking and trying to fleece her own family, Ryan slipped back into Zoe's demons like she's barely been away. The second episode with Zoe hiding in the bedroom with her mum just feet away was agonising, perfectly setting up the incoming reunion and moment we've waited 20 years for. Zoe's got a secret, revealing she's done something 'so bad' her family will never forgive her. The possibilities are endless but it's going to be colossal. I can feel it. More Trending Just a few weeks ago, I couldn't have imagined watching EastEnders again. Now, I can't imagine missing a single second of Wallace and Ryan together on screen. This is the most exciting — and unlikely — reunion since Take That, and I am not going to miss a moment of it. It's been a long time since I truly invested in EastEnders. Thankfully, I still recognise most of the main cast, even if I have no idea what they've been up to for the best part of a decade. View More » Like Zoe, I've got a lot of catching up to do. But with the promise that Michelle Ryan is back for the foreseeable future, I'm ready to dive straight back in with full commitment. Do you have a story you'd like to share? Peter Crouch's wife Abbey Clancy thought he was 'having an affair' as he was 'sneaking off'

Model Abbey Clancy has joked about how she thought that her husband Peter Crouch was "having an affair" after he was "sneaking off" to try and keep a secret from her Model Abbey Clancy has revealed that she suspected former footballer husband Peter Crouch was "having an affair" after he started "sneaking off" recently. ‌ Despite being married to ex-England striker Peter since 2011 and sharing four children, Abbey confessed she feared her other half might have started being unfaithful due to his odd behaviour recently. ‌ In a candid chat with cousin Ross and Peter on their Therapy Crouch podcast, Abbey shared her "whine of the week" as she shared her concerns about Peter's secretive activities. ‌ She revealed: "So for two days, Pete was being all shifty. I thought he was having an affair at one point. I had to send Jack (their youngest child) with him because he kept sneaking off." Abbey continued: "And he was like, I've just got to go and see this golf course. So we came back. And then he was like 'you're not going to believe this golf course'." ‌ It turned out Peter had been going off to check out a new golf course he fancied joining, and in an attempt to win Abbey over, he mentioned it boasted an equestrian centre too. But Abbey wasn't having any of it, quipping that he "must've thought that she was born yesterday" when he hinted there could be perks for her as well. The mother-of-four also reminisced about a recent catch-up with pals where she brought up Peter's plans to join the new golf club. ‌ However, she was taken aback when they all burst into laughter upon realising that the former Southampton forward had already signed up for the new golf club. Peter joined Liverpool in July 2005 and met Abbey when he visited a bar where she was working in the city. ‌ Their love story flourished and six years later, they exchanged vows at a ceremony held at Stapleford Park in Leicestershire. Their first child, Sophia Ruby, arrived just months before their wedding, followed by Liberty Rose (born June 2015), Johnny (born January 2018) and Jack (born June 2019). In recent times, the couple's professional paths have intertwined as they launched their own podcast, the Therapy Crouch, offering listeners a glimpse into the latest happenings in their busy lives.
