"Ravi Kishan Built House On Drain": Yogi Adityanath's Swipe At BJP MP
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath pulled the leg of actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan over building a house on top of a drain in Gorakhpur. The comment made at an event where Mr Kishan was also present drew laughter from the audience.
Yogi Adityanath congratulated the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation for its impressive performance in the Swachh Survekshan Awards where it came in the list of top 10 cities.
GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur were declared 'Best SaifaiMitra Surakshit Shehar' for their outstanding commitment to the safety and dignity of sanitation workers in the Swachh Survekshan awards.
The chief minister while explaining the contribution of the municipal agency and residents of Gorakhpur in keeping the city clean said, "I appreciate the whole team of the municipal corporation, which has sanitation workers, councillors, and cleanliness committees," he added.
On widening roads and drains, Yogi Adityanath said it is sometimes not easy as there are encroachments.
"Some people encroach upon drains. Ravi Kishan ji also built a house on top of a drain in Ramgarh Tal area. I told him not to build a house there. It will lead to inconvenience to the public. You can build the house some distance away from the drain. It will help in smooth flow of sewage," the chief minister said, drawing a laugh from the audience.
The chief minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 253 crore in Gorakhpur. He inaugurated the state's first urban flood management cell and early warning system.
Others who attended the event included Gorakhnath temple head priest Yogi Kamalnath, mayor Manglesh Shrivastava, MLA Vipin Singh, MLC Dharmendra Singh, and other dignitaries.

The court passed the interim order on a petition filed by the Indira Colony Resident Welfare Association, which challenged an eviction notice issued by the Northern Railway on July 4, citing 'unauthorised occupation' of railway land. The court observed that the issue 'requires further examination'. Broken promise Amid legal proceedings, the issue drew sharp political reactions. At a press conference, Leader of the Opposition Atishi said: 'Before elections, the Prime Minister promised every slum dweller a pucca house under the slogan 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan'. But ever since the BJP came to power, bulldozers have arrived at poor people's homes.' Former Shalimar Bagh AAP MLA Bandana Kumari said panic spread in the area on July 4 when the notice was pasted. 'This is CM Rekha Gupta's constituency. Despite her assurances, bulldozers razed one jhuggi earlier. Now, Indira Camp faces the same threat,' she said. While there was no immediate response from the BJP, the CM had previously assured residents that no demolition would occur without legal process or rehabilitation, and that any demolitions under way were court-directed. 'None of the required steps were taken,' it said, pointing out that the colony appears as Serial No. 74 on the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board's (DUSIB) list of 675 eligible jhuggi jhopri (JJ) bastis. The protocol mandates that the land-owning agency must send a request to DUSIB, which must examine the eligibility of the basti for rehabilitation. Only if found ineligible, can demolition proceedings begin, the plea said. Appearing for the Northern Railway, the Central government's counsel submitted that the land belongs to the railway and that the occupants were in 'illegal possession'. The eviction notice, the counsel argued, was issued in accordance with the law.

Gurgaon: In an infrastructure boost to south Haryana, the Centre has decided to develop a new 45km four-lane National Highway from Nuh to Ferozepur Jhirka and Alwar on Rajasthan border and issued tenders for the Rs 325-crore project, which is expected to cut travel time and enhance road safety in the region. The govt has set a two-year completion target for the ambitious project. On completion, the highway is expected to reduce travel time to Rajasthan and tackle safety lapses on a stretch notoriously known as the "bloody highway," where over 2,500 fatalities have been reported in the past 12 years. This development is a result of persistent advocacy and public pressure over the years. The Mewat RTI Manch, a local activist group, has been at the forefront of this campaign since 2013, conducting hunger strikes and protests. Also, the group has filed a petition signed by over 20,000 residents to draw attention to the perils of existing narrow roads and demand immediate corrective measures. Initially, a ₹186-crore proposal was approved in 2019, but the project was put on hold following construction plan for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through the area. Now, with a renewed focus and an increased budget, the Centre has moved forward with a revised estimate of ₹325 crore. Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who has been a vocal advocate for the project, emphasised its transformative potential for Mewat. "The project is not just about a road; it's about giving the people of this region better connectivity, safety and opportunities they've long been denied," he said. Local activists recalled that the movement to expand NH-248A began with a five-day protest on July 9, 2017, under the banner of the Mewat RTI Manch. This was followed by a major state-wide campaign in Nov 2018, which drew national attention. The same year, the Khuni Highway Sangharsh Samiti was formed to intensify the movement.
