PETALING JAYA : National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei came from a game down today to defeat Danish pair Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen and enter the Indonesia Open semi-finals.
The Malaysian world No 4 dug deep into their reserves before overcoming the 27th ranked Danish pair 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 50-minute battle – their first encounter in international tournaments.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei, reunited after a brief separation by the Badminton Association of Malaysia, showed glimpses of their old form, indicating that they are contenders for the Indonesia Open Super 1000 series title.
In the semi-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet world No 6 Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, who defeated Malaysia's world No 5 shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight sets.
The married couple lost 16-21, 12-21 to Dechapol-Supissara in a match that lasted only 33 minutes. The pairs have met eight times this year with Dechapol-Supissara winning five of the encounters.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei have won three titles in the World Tour series: the French Orleans Masters and Taipei Open in 2023, and the Korea Open last year.
They made it to the Super 1000 series finals in December, but lost to a Chinese pair.

As a result, Hailee was forced to issue an apology, which she readily did. Misused video outtakes can cause grave reputational damage which may be hard to undo. The consequences can also be severe, with both FMT and Hailee receiving instant backlash from all corners, bringing harm to the brand and jeopardising careers. Ultimately, media outlets like FMT and journalists like Hailee must exercise care in what they do both in their professional and personal capacities. Meanwhile, netizens, many of whom are now themselves content creators, must do their part by consuming and using content ethically to maintain proper digital discourse. That is a tough ask, and can only be achieved if everyone plays their part. FMT and Hailee regret the manipulation of one of our unused video clips in a way that has brought ridicule to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. (AFP pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Professional men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani led the charge of five Malaysian pairs into the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, today. In the second round of the Super 1000-level tournament, the world No 1 pair held off a tough challenge from compatriots Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong to seal a 21-14, 16-21, 21-14 victory in 54 minutes. The India Open champions will next face Indonesia's Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. Joining Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin are Malaysia Masters champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who defeated compatriots Junaidi Arif-Yap Roy King 14-21, 21-11, 21-15. The world No 7 pair will go up against India's Satwisairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Goh Sze Fei- Nur Izzuddin Rumsani failed to make it an all-Malaysian semi-final in the men's doubles after they fell to Indonesian pair Sabar Karwayan Gutama- Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in three games. The Malaysian world No 1 pair were beaten 21-19, 9-21, 21-19 in a pulsating 56-minute match that had the home crowd at the Istora Senayan, Jakarta on their feet cheering. With this defeat, hopes of an all-Malaysian semi-final between Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and their compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun failed to materialise. Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin have met the world No 8 pair thrice so far with the Indonesian pair winning twice. Earlier, world No 7 pair Wei Chong-Kai Wun defeated India's Chiraq Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy in straight games to qualify for the semi-finals. Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin won the India Open championship title in January but failed to advance beyond the quarter-finals since then. They have won eight BWF titles so far with the Super 1000 series being elusive. The Indonesian Open is one such event offering a total cash prize of US$1.45 million.
