Time of India2 days ago
New Delhi: The newly launched CM Shri Schools have received over 50,000 applications within days of opening admissions.
"The remarkable interest reflects the growing demand for high-quality education in Delhi and underscores the public's confidence in the new initiative," said Education minister Ashish Sood.
Admissions began on Aug 15, and the surge in applications was described as "unprecedented" by the Department of Education. Officials said parents across Delhi have shown overwhelming interest in enrolling their children, viewing these schools as institutions that combine modern infrastructure with innovative teaching practices to prepare students for the future.

According to officials, applications poured in for all classes, with nearly 15,000 submissions for Class VI, over 15,000 for Class VII, and more than 20,000 for Class VIII.
The figures highlight both the demand for better education and families' trust in the vision behind CM Shri Schools.
Sood expressed his happiness at the overwhelming response. "I reassure parents that the admission process will be completely transparent and efficient. The large number of applications stands as a clear endorsement of the Delhi govt's commitment to setting new standards of excellence in education," he said.
The Delhi govt is preparing to unveil the first set of CM Shri Schools in Sept as part of its push to modernise public education, officials confirmed. These schools are being developed to offer students state-of-the-art facilities and a reimagined learning environment that reflects the demands of the future.
A total of 75 govt schools have been identified for upgrade under this initiative, which was first announced in the 2025-26 Delhi budget.
The programme seeks to transform existing schools into centres of advanced, technology-driven education aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Inspired by the Centre's PM Shri Schools, the project aims not only to equip students with 21st-century skills but also to embed principles of sustainability and environmental awareness in the schooling experience.
Officials noted that work is already underway in most of the selected schools, with preparations progressing rapidly to meet the deadline. The govt has allocated ₹100 crore for the project, which initially targeted 60 schools but has since expanded to 75. The institutions are expected to become fully functional within a year, guided by National Curriculum Framework 2023 to ensure their programmes respond to the changing needs of learners.

Another paper under GE titled 'AI and Political Science' aims to give students an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of AI and politics and enable them to investigate the role of AI in shaping political discourse and public opinion. Other DSC courses cover themes such as India's independence movement, the Constitution, public policy, and the Panchayati Raj system. Among the 15 four-credit DSE courses is 'Rajadharma Tradition in India', designed to help students understand Rajadharma in the Vedas, examine its treatment in the Manusmriti and Shukraneeti, and evaluate its depiction in texts like the Ayodhyakanda of the Ramayana, the Shantiparva of the Mahabharata, and Kautilya's Arthashastra. Additional DSE offerings include papers on political leadership, Indian administration, global politics, and perspectives on democracy. There are 18 GE papers of four credits each proposed under UGC's draft LOCF for Political Science, including six separate papers on various Indian leaders and reformers and a paper on women freedom fighters of India that analyses the contributions of women warriors and rulers in medieval Indian history.
