Delhi CM Rekha Gupta keen to promote art, culture of other states

Hans Indiaa day ago
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has emphasised the importance of promoting and expanding the art and culture of various states across the national capital, an official said on Sunday.
She called for events such as women's art exhibitions, artist camps, music and dance festivals, theatre performances, and religious celebrations like Chhath Puja and Durga Puja to be organised across the city to increase public participation.
The Chief Minister also said that efforts will be made to explore possibilities for teaching non-Hindi languages to children in Delhi, enabling them to understand the social and cultural identities of other states.
At a recent meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, CM Gupta discussed measures to enrich Delhi's cultural landscape and involve all sections of society in cultural activities.
'Delhi is not merely the capital city but also a reflection of the country's cultural identity,' she said.
'We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it,' she said, adding that theatre and folk arts are powerful tools for spreading awareness and information, often more effectively than other forms of communication.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Art, Culture and Languages Kapil Mishra, as well as various secretaries, deputy secretaries, and senior officials from different agencies.
CM Gupta noted that the Department of Art, Culture and Languages can play a vital role in this endeavour by broadening the scope of its programmes and activities.
According to the Chief Minister, the department must take its initiatives beyond designated locations and bring them to the general public to enhance public participation.
She directed officials to ensure that regional festivals celebrated in Delhi include artists from the respective states, as this would help generate greater public interest in these events.
The Chief Minister noted that while the Department of Art, Culture and Languages has long promoted Delhi's cultural heritage, its reach must now be expanded.
Highlighting Delhi's diverse population, she emphasised the growing celebration of regional festivals and directed officials to involve artists from different states in these events.

Speaker inaugurates National e-Vidhan Application Seva Centre

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Monday inaugurated the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) Seva Centre at the Delhi Legislative Assembly Complex and marked the successful completion of its first phase. The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly is likely to be held in the first week of August, according to Assembly sources. A Bill to regulate private school fees, which is currently in the form of an ordinance, is to be discussed and passed during the session. 'The inauguration of the NeVA Seva Centre and the successful completion of the first phase of NeVA marks a critical milestone in our commitment to a digital, transparent, and sustainable legislature. This initiative reflects our alignment with the Prime Minister's vision of 'Digital India', paperless governance, and the transformative idea of 'One Nation, One Application',' he said. Mr. Gupta said that it is unfortunate that earlier governments made no sincere efforts in this direction and with NeVA, the Assembly is now bridging that gap and paving the way for a more accountable and modern legislative ecosystem. 'The first batch of MLAs actively participated and showed keen interest in the working of the application. Each Member was provided with a smartphone preloaded with the NeVA application, allowing seamless access to the list of business, legislative questions, documents, and session updates,' as per a statement from the Assembly Secretariat. The three-day training programme, scheduled from July 21 to 23, is designed to equip MLAs with practical knowledge of the NeVA platform's tools and functionalities. The training will ensure their effective participation in the upcoming Monsoon Session by enabling a smooth transition to paperless legislative functioning.

Martyred at the altar of 80s-style rally

Somewhere in a forgotten corner of modernity thrives an ancient political ritual: the political rally. The primal display of power through marching mobs, rivers of stalled traffic, and vanloads of people moving to one destination is still a thing in primitive locations like Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee 's annual 'martyrs' day' rally yesterday, for instance, really refers to citizens being martyred at the altar of ease of 21st-c living. Such societies still believe that power is measured in sq ft blockage. But can you really blame Didi for picking up and walking in droves with this communist ritual? There clearly are enough people who'll follow the piper in these medieval non-Germanic Hamelins for a free day trip to the City of Ploy and, for some, per diem and box lunch en who, in any other corner of the world, would have demanded they be allowed to go about their daily business, are happy to take such mob showboating as just another normal activity. Daily business being an oxymoronic concept in these places, a staycation on a weekday (for those who can afford to stay home and take a day off) becomes quite another rallying point. One almost admires the commitment to archaic spectacle - until your metro route is hijacked by a banner-waving throng shouting about something that similar mannequins would have shouted in the 1980s.

Call for affordable housing grows stronger across parties

Porvorim: Opposition and ruling parties on Monday raised concerns as state govt failed to provide affordable housing to the Goan population. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that govt is in the process of finalising land in the Pernem taluka for affordable housing. Sawant said that as per the survey conducted in 2011, few people were eligible for PM Awas Yojana, and govt will conduct a new survey under which more people will be eligible for the scheme. Under PM Awas Yojana, four crore affordable houses were provided to the citizens of India. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar said that the housing board is providing plots and flats to Goans at market prices, and that is the reason non-Goans are buying those plots and flats. Tuenkar demanded that govt scrap the auction policy and allot plots and flats on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhawalikar said that as per the policy, govt auctions housing plots and flats on two occasions, and if there are no buyers, govt can check whether they can be allotted in other ways. Tuenkar mentioned that previously the Goa Housing Board used to provide loans to the allottees as they were not in a position to buy the plots of land by getting loans from the bank, and the same should be introduced again. Opposition leader Yuri Alemao said that the chief minister, in his budget speech, announced a comprehensive housing policy to provide affordable housing for Goans, but to date, it has not materialised. Mayem MLA Premendra Shet said there is a need to amend the existing laws so that only Goans are eligible for affordable housing, as it has been observed that non-Goans are benefiting.
