Run-UP to panchayat, assembly polls: SP in revamp mode, dissolves dist panels, eyes PDA consolidation
: In the run-up to the 2026 panchayat polls and the 2027 state assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party has dissolved all its district level committees in Uttar Pradesh, barring the one in Kushinagar. The step, taken on the orders of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, comes amid months-long speculation that the party may restructure its district committees with a focus on PDA (Pichda Dalit Alpsankhyak) formula.
The Samajwadi Party's Kushinagar unit is headed by Ram Avadh Yadav, a former MLC, who was appointed three months back after the post fell vacant due to the death of Mohammad Shukrullah Ansari.
The SP's official handle on X wrote, 'On the instructions of the national president of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, the state president of the Samajwadi Party, Shyam Lal Pal, has dissolved the district executive of the Samajwadi Party, except the district president of Samajwadi Party, Kushinagar District, the Legislative Assembly executive, including the Legislative Assembly presidents, and the district executive, including the district presidents, of other frontal organisations with immediate effect.'
According to a person familiar with the issue, the SP chief is considering including more people from the PDA communities. The PDA formula yielded good results for the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as it won 37 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
'The organisational revamp will be most likely done in four phases. We have also identified the ones who have caused harm to the party. Also, non-performers will be removed and new faces will be given a chance,' claimed the source.
The appointment of Shyam Lal Pal as the new SP state president in May last year marked the first step towards this revamp. Later, party chief Akhilesh Yadav convened a meeting in this regard in December.
The zila panchayat elections are to be held next year and the state assembly polls in 2027.
The PDA formula has become the cornerstone of the SP's strategy. The leadership believes that by giving key responsibilities to leaders from backward, Dalit, and minority communities, the party can further consolidate its support base.

Channi stated that the Kabir Bhawan in Jalandhar — constructed during the Congress regime at a cost of ₹12 crore — has been neglected by the AAP government. He also pointed out that despite machinery being provided by the previous government for cleaning the sarovar at Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth in Amritsar, the current administration did nothing to maintain it. Further, Channi slammed the AAP government for scrapping the ₹100 crore Baba Saheb Research Centre project proposed at Kapurthala Technical University during his tenure as CM. 'Not even a single brick has been laid in the past three years,' he said, terming it a betrayal of Baba Saheb's legacy. Channi also brought up the issue of a ₹25 crore grant that the Congress government had sanctioned for setting up a study centre on Guru Ravidas Ji's teachings at Dera Sachkhand Ballan. He alleged that the AAP government withdrew the cheque, and only revisited the Dera on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections, reissuing the same cheque — which, he claimed, has still not been encashed due to non-release of funds. Channi also attacked AAP's pre-poll promise of ₹1,000 per month to every woman, alleging that not a single rupee has been disbursed even after over 40 months in power. 'Girls in Punjab now ask their mothers every day, 'When will 'Kejriwal uncle' from Delhi deposit money into our accounts?'' he said.

Channi slams Bhagwant Mann, Kejriwal as ‘anti-Dalit'
Ludhiana: Former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi claimed that both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Arvind Kejriwal were anti-Dalit and poor people. Referring to the party not appointing a Dalit deputy chief minister, as promised before the 2022 assembly elections, Channi claimed that CM Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal did not participate in the programmes organised in the memory of Dalit gurus. Channi said that Kejriwal projected himself as a common man by wearing slippers and travelling in auto-rickshaws, but soon after coming to power, he started travelling in helicopters and staying in luxury hotels. On Wednesday, Channi said, a government programme was organised in Jalandhar on the occasion of Kabir Jayanti and both Mann and Kejriwal were supposed to attend it. However, he claimed that despite being in Jalandhar, both returned without attending the event. He added that Kejriwal and Mann spent time in a friend's factory after inaugurating a park located about three kilometres from the Kabir Jayanti programme venue. He also said that the Kabir Bhawan was constructed during the Congress government at a cost of Rs 12 crore. Channi claimed that the AAP government did not pay attention to cleaning of the sarovar at the Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth in Amritsar, which, had been made using the machinery procured by the Congress government at expense of crores. The former CM said that the AAP government did not implement the project of building a research centre on the life of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar for Rs 100 crore at the Technical University in Kapurthala. He claimed that during his tenure as CM, he presented a cheque of Rs 25 crore to the Dera Sachkhand Ballan management to build a study centre devoted to Guru Ravidas's teachings at Dera Ballan, the holy place of Guru Ravidas. Channi alleged that the cheque was taken back by Kejriwal. On the eve of Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann reached the dera to present the same cheque but the amount of Rs 25 crore has not been released to the dera so far, he claimed. "I genuinely want to ask CM Mann and Kejriwal what their issues are with poor and Dalit people," Channi asked. He said that before the assembly elections, votes were collected by filling forms promising to give Rs 1,000 per month to women but after 40 months, women had not received anything. Akhilesh seeks clarification on Ahmd plane crash
Lucknow: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over the incident. He also condoled the demise of Vijay Rupani who was onboard the ill-fated flight. "Demise of BJP's softspoken and gentle former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani is a major loss form Gujarat and India. My condolences to his family and prayers that his soul may rest in peace," Akhilesh said in a message. He said the party and its leadership stands firmly with the families who have lost their near and dear ones in the crash. He announced that all public and political events of the party have been deferred for three days. Meanwhile, Akhilesh sought a clarification from govt on the crash to put to rest speculation and misgivings about what led to the tragedy. "This is a major accident. On the basis of whatever little initial information we have till now, I would urge the authorities to ensure best possible and immediate help and medical assistance to all those in need," Akhilesh said.
