Scott Porter admits Ginny and Georgia success surpassed expectations

Perth Now28-06-2025
Scott Porter has been surprised by the success of Ginny and Georgia.
The 45-year-old actor has played Mayor Paul Randolph in the hit Netflix series since 2021, and he admits that the show has surpassed his own expectations.
Asked about the show's long-term future, Scott told Us Weekly: "Our creator, Sarah [Lampert], is an infinite well of stories. I'm sure we could spin this thing for an awful long time.
"And it's up to Netflix on whether or not we continue on. But, let me just say to our viewers, thank you so much for tuning in over these first three seasons. We never expected the show to be a hit the way that it is — and it's all because of you all. So thank you."
The show - which follows a young single mother who tries to run away from her past - has already been renewed for a fourth season, and Scott still loves working on Ginny and Georgia.
He shared: "I trust [the writers]. They are mapping out a show that's unlike anything I've ever been on before. The twists, the turns, the cliffhangers and it works.
"So these scenes, my No. 1 word for this season and for me filling the shoes of Paul is 'intimidating.' I was intimidated with some of the stuff they presented me with and I wasn't sure if I could keep up with our two leads who were so incredible.
"When they're asking Paul to reach these emotional depths, falling apart in front of our eyes and letting a little bit of his inner darkness out, I was intimidated."
Scott has also revealed his hopes for his own character in season four.
The actor said: "There's parts of Paul we still don't understand and we haven't seen. So his resilience and how he rebounds from this in season four, I'd love to see some of that. I'd love to see a little bit of the old Paul.
"We've heard how good he is at his job. He was elected mayor before Georgia ever walked into his life. I'd love to see that fight, that wit, that charm come back a little bit in season four."

Ex-Ryder Cup player Hunter Mahan unrecognisable in Happy Gilmore 2

Former world No. 4 golfer Hunter Mahan has been left unrecognisable as he took a new job as Adam Sandler's body double in Happy Gilmore 2. The iconic comedy had its sequel released on Netflix on Friday and it featured many cameos from the world of golf, The Sun reports. Golf stars such as John Daly, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, as well as influencer Paige Spirinac, all took up roles. But Mahan was given the honour of being Sandler's body double in order to show off Happy Gilmore's perfect swing. The former Ryder Cup Team USA star, 43, shared a post on Instagram showing his transformation into Happy. The process saw him given facial hair and a haircut. He also had make-up and a new wardrobe to match Sandler's character. 'When they called and said Happy Gilmore needs a golf swing double, I said say no more,' Mahan wrote. 'Honoured to get to be a part of Happy Gilmore 2 and witness Adam Sandler's comedic genius come to life first-hand! 'Here's a little behind-the-scenes look of my transformation into Happy – shoutout to the hair and makeup team, that crew is incredible and so hard working! 'And some fun from set. 'Such an awesome experience and capped it off by bringing my daughter Zoe to the premiere earlier this week.' The video ended with him showing off the familiar walk-up swing of the beloved movie character. Fans loved seeing the reveal on social media as they flooded the comment section. One posted: 'Man this is so badass.' A second wrote: 'This is awesome! Great stuff.' A third commented: 'This is so cool Hunter.' A fourth said: 'I was just thinking why is his swing actually good in the movie.' Another added: 'I've seen enough. Induct Hunter in the Hall of Fame now.'

Outback Wrangler Matt Wright pleads not guilty over fatal NT chopper crash

Outback Wrangler's Matt Wright has pleaded not guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice more than three years after a fatal helicopter crash. The reality TV star was charged following the crash that killed co-star Chris 'Willow' Wilson in February 2022. Wearing a light blue shirt and blue jeans, Wright appeared calm when he fronted the Supreme Court in Darwin on Monday. He entered not guilty pleas for three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice when he was arraigned, kissing his wife during an adjournment. The 2022 crash in remote West Arnhem Land killed Wilson, with pilot Sebastian Robinson also seriously injured. The trial is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and is expected to take four weeks. The trial will hear from about 25 witnesses. Wright rose to fame starring in National Geographic's Outback Wrangler and Netflix series Wild Croc Territory.
