'He Isn't Someone Who Asks For Loads Of Data But...': RCB Analyst Lauds Virat Kohli

Freddie Wilde has lauded Virat Kohli's strategic brilliance, aligning instincts with data.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru data analyst Freddie Wilde has said that during team meetings within the franchise where he shares his numerical inputs, Virat Kohli contributes as well, not with numbers but with his analyses, which remarkably fit with the data.
Kohli has already called time on his T20I career after India's winning T20 World Cup campaign last year. A generational talent and one of the best all-format batters cricket has seen, Kohli scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 in Tests, including 30 hundreds.
Wilde, speaking on the Love of Cricket podcast, has given some insights into Kohli's strategic brilliance during team meetings.
'You can see Virat's cricketing brain kicks in at those moments. We have team meetings, batting meetings and I'll often lead those by sharing data, bowler by bowler, their patterns, phases and matchups," Wilde said while speaking to Jos Buttler on the podcast.
'What is brilliant is how Virat contributes. He picks up stuff that the data doesn't always show. He's not someone who asks for loads of data, but what is reassuring is how his gut instinct often lines up perfectly with the analytics," Wilde said.
Meanwhile, ace New Zealand batter Kane Williamson has lauded Kohli's contributions to Test cricket, two months after the latter decided to quit the traditional format, in what came as a shocking decision to some.
'Someone like Virat, so many great moments throughout the international game, but the bond outside of the pitch is something that is far more special and those experiences that have been shared," Williamson said while speaking to The Times of India.
'All good things come to an end and the way he has been able to make those decisions that feel comfortable to him. It has been incredible going out on his terms etc, although he is still involved in one of the formats," Williamson added.

IND vs ENG 4th Test Day 1: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul Take India To 78 For No Loss At Lunch

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul guided India to 78 for no loss at lunch on day one of the fourth Test against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal navigated a challenging spell from Chris Woakes while KL Rahul remained solid, guiding India to 78 for no loss at lunch on day one of the fourth Test against England on Wednesday. No team opting to bowl first has ever won at Old Trafford, but Ben Stokes disregarded that statistic on an overcast morning. Although the ball seemed around, the lack of pace allowed the Indian openers to play the pull shot with relative ease. Rahul (40) and Jaiswal (36) remained unbeaten at the break. India captain Shubman Gill believed it was a good toss to lose, which seems accurate given the dry and slow nature of the surface. Woakes made it particularly difficult for the batters, especially Jaiswal, who was beaten several times by the England pacer. In Woakes' first over of the match, two edges off Jaiswal's bat did not carry, highlighting the lack of carry from the pitch. During his eight-over spell, Woakes was pulled twice with Rahul and Jaiswal dispatching him in front of the square. A streaky drive from Rahul off Woakes brought him to 1,000 runs in England, showcasing his impressive performance at the top of the order in this series. Jaiswal, who was dismissed twice by Jofra Archer at Lord's, made a conscious effort to leave balls. He was also forced to change his bat when a delivery from Woakes seamed back sharply from round the wicket, hitting high on his bat and breaking the handle. The openers managed to survive the first hour of play, taking India to 42 for no loss in 14 overs. Towards the end of the session, Archer returned for his second spell, bowling a sharp bouncer to Jaiswal, who directed it towards third man for four despite falling on the ground. A couple of cut shots off Ben Stokes took Jaiswal into his 30s, with the second being a six over the vacant third man. Despite expressing confidence in Karun Nair on the eve of the match, Gill dropped him and brought in Sai Sudharsan in his place. The other two were forced changes, with uncapped Anshul Kamboj and Shardul Thakur making way for the injured Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy, respectively. The honour was bestowed on the opening day of the fourth Test between India and England. Engineer's impressive career at Lancashire spanned from 1968 to 1976, during which he played 175 matches. His statistics include 5,942 runs, 429 catches, and 35 stumpings. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! His presence at Lancashire proved pivotal as the club secured the Gillette Cup four times between 1970 and 1975, ending a 15-year trophy drought. The crowd look on from the newly named stand in honour of Former Lancashire player Farokh Engineer (Photo by) While Engineer has strong connections to Indian cricket and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, he surprisingly lacks a stand named after him there. Lloyd joined Lancashire in the early 1970s as an overseas player. The two-time World Cup-winning captain's twenty-year association with the club helped reshape Lancashire's cricket fortunes. The stand naming ceremony recognises both players' significant contributions to Lancashire county cricket. Engineer, now 87, has made Manchester his permanent residence since retiring from the sport.
