'He Isn't Someone Who Asks For Loads Of Data But...': RCB Analyst Lauds Virat Kohli

Freddie Wilde has lauded Virat Kohli's strategic brilliance, aligning instincts with data.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru data analyst Freddie Wilde has said that during team meetings within the franchise where he shares his numerical inputs, Virat Kohli contributes as well, not with numbers but with his analyses, which remarkably fit with the data.
Kohli has already called time on his T20I career after India's winning T20 World Cup campaign last year. A generational talent and one of the best all-format batters cricket has seen, Kohli scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 in Tests, including 30 hundreds.
Wilde, speaking on the Love of Cricket podcast, has given some insights into Kohli's strategic brilliance during team meetings.
'You can see Virat's cricketing brain kicks in at those moments. We have team meetings, batting meetings and I'll often lead those by sharing data, bowler by bowler, their patterns, phases and matchups," Wilde said while speaking to Jos Buttler on the podcast.
'What is brilliant is how Virat contributes. He picks up stuff that the data doesn't always show. He's not someone who asks for loads of data, but what is reassuring is how his gut instinct often lines up perfectly with the analytics," Wilde said.
Meanwhile, ace New Zealand batter Kane Williamson has lauded Kohli's contributions to Test cricket, two months after the latter decided to quit the traditional format, in what came as a shocking decision to some.
'Someone like Virat, so many great moments throughout the international game, but the bond outside of the pitch is something that is far more special and those experiences that have been shared," Williamson said while speaking to The Times of India.
'All good things come to an end and the way he has been able to make those decisions that feel comfortable to him. It has been incredible going out on his terms etc, although he is still involved in one of the formats," Williamson added.

Dada returns! Sourav Ganguly set to re-enter administration, to file nomination for CAB presidency

Sourav Ganguly could soon replace his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly as the Cricket Association of Bengal president as the former India captain is reportedly planning to return to administration. read more Nearly three years after he stepped down as BCCI chief, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is set to re-enter administration as he will in all likelihood file nomination for the president's post in the upcoming Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) elections. The 52-year-old Ganguly was the CAB president till 2019, having started his journey as the secretary of the state unit under late Jagmohan Dalmiya back in 2014. In 2019, he was unanimously elected as the president of the BCCI with Jay Shah as the secretary, but after completion of one term, Ganguly had to make way for 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Yes, Sourav is very keen to come back to administration. He has made up his mind to file nomination for the CAB president's post. If one goes by BCCI constitution, he will have five years (total nine years in state) left. Whether he will be a unanimous choice or there will be an election is still not clear at this stage,' a senior CAB official, privy to the developments in state unit, told PTI on conditions of anonymity. Incidentally, the current CAB president is Snehasish, who is Ganguly's older brother. He is set to complete six years after which he needs to go for a mandatory cooling off period as per the requirements of the Lodha Committee-recommended constitution. It has been learnt that Ganguly, over the past few months, has been regularly connecting with the member units and a lot of people within the organization believe that someone of his stature needs to come back into the administration. 'Sourav was a very successful CAB president. The Vision2020 is such a big hit and we got some wonderful cricketers from that project. Hopefully, all stakeholders in the CAB will come together and ensure that we are on same page with a collective vision of taking our state's cricket forward.'

Canadian Open: Home Hope Victoria Mboko, Naomi Osaka Set Up Championship Clash

Last Updated: Osaka posted a 6-2, 7-6 (9/7) victory over Denmark's Clara Tauson, while Canadian teenage sensation Mboko battled past Elena Rybakina in a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) come-from-behind win. Naomi Osaka will take on home hope Victoria Mboko in the final of the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal after the two players secured their berth in the championship clash of the event. Osaka posted a 6-2, 7-6 (9/7) victory over Denmark's Clara Tauson, while Canadian teenage sensation Mboko battled past Elena Rybakina in a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) come-from-behind win. The 18-year-old wild card thrived on the crowd's energy, attributing her perseverance to ecstatic supporters after a fall left her with a sore right wrist in the third set of her first tour-level semi-final. Mboko, who defeated top-seeded French Open champion Coco Gauff in the fourth round, didn't let it hinder her. After losing an early break in the third set, she refused to back down, relying on her forehand and saving a match point as she broke Rybakina in the 10th game to level the set. A couple of untimely double faults allowed ninth-seeded Rybakina to break back for a 6-5 lead, but the ninth seed from Kazakhstan was broken at love in the next game, setting the stage for tiebreaker drama. 'After I had that fall, I wasn't in the greatest spirits, but I'm happy that I kept my composure and was patient at the right moments," said Mboko, who won the last three points of a decider she described as 'stressful". 'Anything can happen," an exhausted Mboko beamed as the crowd's cheers rained down on her. 'Unfortunately, I fell, but I had everyone supporting me and pushing me." Mboko started the season ranked outside the top 300 but had worked her way up to 85th by competing in lower-level tournaments. She is assured of breaking into the top 40 regardless of the result against Osaka, a former world number one who has struggled to find consistency since returning from maternity leave in 2024. Osaka looked re-energised this week after a coaching shakeup and breezed through the first set against Tauson. However, Tauson twice regained a break in the second set, pushing it to a tiebreaker where she had chances to level the match after taking a 6-4 lead. Unable to convert her set points, the Dane saved one match point to make it 7-7, but Osaka won the next two to seal the victory and reach her first final in a WTA 1000 level event since Miami in 2022. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. He Argued With Kohli On Debut And Left Bumrah Fuming, Now This Australian Has Been Picked For Maiden India Tour

Last Updated: 19-year-old Australia opener Sam Konstas will be representing Australia A on their red-ball tour of India next month. Cricket Australia have sent struggling Sam Konstas to India for Australia A's red-ball tour of the country next month. Konstas first came into the limelight following a half-century on debut while facing the likes of Jasprit Bumrah during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December. He further hit the headlines thanks to his heated altercation with Virat Kohli and later Bumrah. However, following the BGT, Konstas has been struggling to get going in Test cricket. Australia chief selector George Bailey feels that the experience of playing in India will be invaluable for the teenages. The 19-year-old, who had a tough time during Australia's recent senior tour of the West Indies, is the only current Test player chosen for two four-day matches in Lucknow. Test-capped players Cooper Connolly, Todd Murphy, and Nathan McSweeney were also included in the 14-man squad. A separate Australia A squad was announced for three one-day matches. 'The subcontinent presents many unique challenges and offers the chance to utilise different skills with both bat and ball," said Bailey. Konstas made headlines during the Melbourne Boxing Day Test last year when he faced Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, scoring a fiery debut 60 with a series of unorthodox shots. He lasted for one more Test before being dropped, only to regain his place for the West Indies Test series in June-July. However, he struggled to score more than 25 in six innings, making his hold on the position increasingly uncertain ahead of Australia's home Ashes series against England this year.
