Chinese national student charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend

SHAH ALAM: A Chinese national student claimed trial in the sessions court here today to stabbing his ex-girlfriend last week. You Wei, 22, was charged with causing grievous hurt to the victim by stabbing her in the left side of her neck with a knife at a private university in Sunway on July 14.

Kelantan cops stand firm, gay gathering raid not linked to health programme
KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have stood by their earlier statement that the gathering in Kemumin here, which was raided last month, was not related to any health programme but was instead a social event involving members of the gay community. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that, based on intelligence gathering and public interviews, the Kelantan Police Task Force found that invitations to the gathering had been sent through specific WhatsApp groups. "Investigations showed that the invitations to the programme did not mention any involvement or organisation by official bodies such as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), health clinics, or the Health Ministry. "There was also no information indicating that the programme had received approval or was being monitored by any authorised party," Yusoff said in a statement late last night. On the day of the raid, Yusoff said the police Task Force had been monitoring the venue since 5pm, as the event was scheduled to take place between 8pm and 11pm, according to the invitation. He added that at around 8pm, the number of attendees had increased to about 100 people, who were observed dining and engaging in casual conversation. "By around 11pm, the majority of attendees had left the premises. The raiding team took precautionary measures and only conducted the operation at around 1am to ensure it proceeded smoothly without posing any risk to public safety. "During the raid, police found 20 men at the premises, and they admitted to being part of the gay community. "It was also established during the raid that no representatives from NGOs or any government health agencies, including the Health Ministry, were present." He added that documentation conducted on the 20 men revealed that 18 were from Kelantan, one from Perak, and one from Besut, Terengganu, who is a student at a higher learning institution in Kelantan. "Checks on their mobile phones revealed that three of them possessed pornographic videos involving same-sex activities. Some also admitted to having engaged in same-sex activities. "Police also found hundreds of condoms and several boxes of HIV medication in one of the rooms," he said. Yusoff stressed that police action was based solely on verified intelligence and lawful evidence, with no intent of discrimination. "Our responsibility is to maintain public order and safeguard the moral values of society. I hope this explanation will dispel confusion and speculation circulating online. "The public is urged not to spread unverified information and to continue cooperating with the authorities to preserve harmony in the state," he said. It was reported that three men, including two students from tertiary education institutions, were fined a total of RM11,000 by the magistrate's court on Sunday for possessing obscene images and videos. The trio was among those arrested by police during the raid at a house in Kemumin last month.

Doctor Arrested Again Over Molest Claim By Another Patient
BALIK PULAU, July 22 (Bernama) -- A doctor has been arrested again for investigations into an alleged molestation of a female patient at a private clinic in Bayan Baru here. Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the 43-year-old male doctor was detained at the Barat Daya police headquarters (IPD) at 8 pm yesterday after being asked to attend a query into the case. "Police received a report regarding the incident from a woman who claimed that at 11.46 am on June 29, she had sought treatment at a private clinic in Bayan Baru for abdominal pains. "While in the examination room, the doctor treating her told her to take off her clothes and touched her breasts. The victim, who was unhappy with the conduct, filed a police report regarding the incident on July 18," he said when contacted by Bernama today. He said following the detention of the doctor, who works at a hospital in the state, police also seized a mobile phone belonging to him to help in the investigation. Meanwhile, acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed with Bernama that the doctor was the same medical officer who was previously arrested for indecent behaviour towards female patients in the state. He said the man has been remanded for three days until July 23 to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code. Previous media reports said a doctor was detained three times after allegations of indecent behaviour at a hospital and two private clinics in the Northeast district involving three female victims. The man was investigated then under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for indecent conduct.

Zayn Rayyan's mum suspected her son was abducted
PETALING JAYA: The mother of the late Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin today told the Sessions Court here that she suspected her son was abducted by someone while they were climbing the stairs to her residence on the day the autistic child went missing. Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, said this because she did not hear the sound of her son's footsteps and people running as they climbed the stairs from the first to the second floor of Block R, Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai on Dec 5, 2023. However, the first defence witness did not agree with the suggestion of deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin that in fact no one took or abducted her six-year-old son on the day of the incident. "I suspected my child was kidnapped and taken away because I didn't hear the sound of his footsteps," she said on the second day of the defence proceedings in the neglect case involving the child. According to Ismanira, on the day of the incident (Dec 5), she walked in front of Zayn Rayyan, but she did not look back at all because she only used her sense of hearing to monitor the whereabouts of Zayn Rayyan who was behind her at the time. However, Ismanira agreed with the prosecution's suggestion that visual monitoring is clearer and quicker to respond to than using the sense of hearing. According to Ismanira, Zayn Rayyan also never left the house without her and was always under her supervision. The accused also disagreed with the prosecution's suggestion that on the day of the incident (Dec 5, 2023), she left Zayn Rayyan to play on a swing in the playground alone while she went up to her house on the second floor of the apartment. "While walking, sometimes Zayn will run in front of me or behind me under my supervision. "Zayn knows the stairs up to the house and he also knows our house. "Besides the house, Zayn also remembers the way to places he usually goes to such as the way to his grandparents' house, the way to school and the shop. "I know how my son is... Zayn is a smart person even though he has a disability (autism), he knows his home," she said. Yesterday, Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh ordered Ismanira to enter her defence after finding that the prosecution had successfully proven a prima facie case against the woman while her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 30, was discharged and acquitted of the same charge. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the area of Block R, Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55 pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted. The trial continues tomorrow.
