Pilgrimage: The Road Through The Alps (BBC2)
Unfair though it is, every time I hear ex-Traitor Harry Clark speak, my guard goes up. His lips are moving — he must be lying.
The 24-year-old former lance-corporal in the Royal Artillery scooped the £95,000 jackpot in last year's series by convincing everyone he was a nice guy, before stabbing them one by one in the back.
He seems like a really nice guy on Pilgrimage: The Road Through The Alps too. I'm just waiting for him to push the other six celebrities off a mountain pass. Maybe, like Moriarty, he's biding his time until they reach the Reichenbach Falls.
'Celebrity' is the loosest of terms here. There's a former boy band member called Jay-from-The-Wanted, actress Helen Lederer, and Paralympian Stef Reid. Jeff Brazier is on the trip, of course: it appears to be a contractual obligation that he appears on all BBC reality shows. No one knows why he's 'famous' but he's been on Celebrity Race Round The World, Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Who Dares Wins and I'm A Celebrity — so I think we can be certain he's a celebrity.
As for the other two, search me. Nelufar Hedayat is a journalist and podcast presenter, according to the press release, and Daliso Chaponda is a stand-up comedian from Malawi who featured on Britain's Got Talent.
It's reassuring to know that Daliso is a comic. As the seven trekked towards the snowline on the Austrian border with
Switzerland, he hooted, 'We're like proper pilgrimmin' right now, innit!' — and that had better be a joke because, if he really meant it, I might have to become an atheist.
This is the seventh series of Pilgrimage and the format is unvarying. The celebs take it in turns to buttonhole each other and ask searching questions about faith, God and the meaning of life.
The pretence is that these are intimate and private moments. In reality, they're surrounded by a camera crew, and the soul-searching is staged, though some of the confessionals were clearly heartfelt. Stef's description of how she lost her right foot, aged 15 while waterskiing, was horrendous — Jay looked like he was going to pass out.
Harry asked Nelufar, who refuses to wear the hijab and whose husband is not a Muslim, whether she ever feared she was going to Hell.
'Am I damned?' she mused. 'Yeah, I think so. But I don't know if I believe in the version of God that would damn me for living the life I pick.'
There's a fair bit of jostling for camera time. Jeff stripped off for a dip in an alpine lake, taking care not to get his hair wet. Gelled perfection like that doesn't happen accidentally, you know.
Harry and Jay also got their kit off to double up in an outdoor tub at a Swiss chalet. The hostel owner, a rosy-cheeked frau named Christine, bustled over to sluice them off with a shower hose. The smile on her face told us that this is one of the perks of her job.

Caledonian Isles return after 18 months delayed after gearbox 'hitch'
The 32-year-old ship had been due to resume sailings from Ardrossan to Arran on Friday morning but sea trials revealed a new problem with the ship's gearbox. CalMac said it would now be Tuesday at the earliest before Caledonian Isles could return but sailings from Troon would still be available in the meantime. MV Caledonian Isles was initially taken out of service in January last year after routine annual maintenance revealed serious steel corrosion. Months of major repair work took place in dry dock at Cammell Laird shipyard in Merseyside, requiring removal of the ship's engines. But this was set back by the discovery of 'steel deformation' and the need to replace both stern tube bearings. The company said 'extensive' repairs to the steel had to be completed, but the shafts required further 'machining' in Denmark before sailings could resume. "Whilst this will be disappointing news, a two-vessel service from Troon will remain in place for now to ensure Arran has a reliable service with appropriate capacity," they said. "We carry out sea trials to identify and address issues and that is what we've done here. "It's been a long road to get to this point with MV Caledonian Isles and, in the context of where we've been, we are still confident we will see her carrying passengers between Ardrossan and Brodick imminently."

Tributes paid to Britons feared killed in Air India plane crash
Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, who run a spiritual wellness centre, were said to be among the dead. The pair laughed and joked as they filmed a video of themselves at the airport before taking off. (PA Graphics) In an earlier Instagram post they told of their 'mind-blowing' trip to India and their intention to make a vlog about it. Mr Greenlaw is said to have appeared on ITV's This Morning earlier this year to talk about wellness. Former editor of the show Martin Frizell praised his 'vibrancy' and 'enthusiasm'. 'So so sad to hear that Fiongal Greenlaw Meek and his partner are reported to be among the passengers and crew killed today on board the Air India flight bound for Gatwick,' he said in an Instagram post. 'I remember his visit to the studio in January, he was passionate about auras and although I'm a sceptical sort his vibrancy and sheer enthusiasm won folk over. 'And I know for a fact that he hoped to use his appearance on This Morning to build his wellness brand, he had a great future ahead of him. 'Thoughts are with his family and friends and those of his partner Jamie.' The Greenlaw-Meeks were running the Wellness Foundry in London, which offers psychic readings, tarot, reiki and yoga. The firm is included in Time Out's top places in the capital for tarot readings. The Wellness Foundry also has a podcast called Spirit Level, which the website says is a 'guiding light on the journey to holistic well-being and spiritual enlightenment'. The Gloucester Muslim Community group offered 'sincere and deepest condolences' after Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa and their daughter Sara were reported to be among the victims. 'During this moment of overwhelming sorrow, our hearts go out to all those left behind,' a statement said. 'No words can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but we pray that the family may find solace in the tremendous outpouring of compassion and solidarity from communities across the world.' Raj Mishra, the mayor of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, called for people to come together as he announced the deaths of three people from his community. 'Among those lost were Raxa Modha, infant Rudra Modha, and Ms K Mistri, all from our Wellingborough community,' he said. 'I extend my deepest condolences to their families, friends and all those affected by this heartbreaking event. 'May their memories be a blessing, and may we come together to support one another in this time of grief.' Briton Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is believed to be the only survivor of the crash. Speaking outside the family home in Leicester, his brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, 27, said: 'We were just shocked as soon as we heard it. 'I last spoke to him yesterday morning. We're devastated, just devastated. 'He said, 'I have no idea how I exited the plane'.' Mr Ramesh's older brother Ajay was also aboard the flight. Another of Mr Ramesh's relatives, Jay, said the survivor spoke to his father after the crash and asked after his brother. EastEnders' Shane Ritchie's bid for David Jason to join soap
Appearing on The One Show, Ritchie, 61, who plays Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, spoke about EastEnders' award-winning streak at the British Soap Awards last week. The cast were presented the award for Best Soap by none other than Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David Jason – and it would appear that Ritchie would love to get him to become a Walford resident. Speaking on The One Show last night (June 11), Ritchie told hosts Alex Jones and Angellica Bell that he is 'trying' to get David Jason involved. "Well, we got presented the award by David Jason, and now this is between us," Richie joked with fellow guest, Marvel star Jeremy Renner, and the hosts. "Davis Jason, big famous actor, say nothing, I'm trying to get him into EastEnders," Richie continued. He jokingly turned to the camera and said: "Turn over, watch something else, you don't want to see this," before adding: "I'm trying to get him into it." When Bell asked him whether he had spoken to Jason about it, Richie said: "I don't know yet! I might take him out for a beer." Fans 'can't cope' with David Jason at the British Soap Awards It appears that Shane Ritchie would not be the only one who would love to see Sir David on the Square. Fans were delighted that the 85-year-old presented the soap award to the EastEnders cast, taking to social media to sing his praises. 'Witnessing the David Jason presenting the award for best soap and then EastEnders winning might be one of the most surreal things I have ever experienced,' one person said on X. 'Sir David Jason announcing EastEnders for Best Soap?! My worlds have collided, and I can't cope,' another added. Others tweeted: 'Dreaming that David Jason has joined #EastEnders' and 'David Jason would be brilliant in #EastEnders!" What has David Jason said about EastEnders? During The Only Fools and Horses Story – a TV special that aired in 2021 to mark the 40th anniversary of the sitcom – Sir David suggested how EastEnders' Queen Vic could have been a "meeting place" to set the scene for more humour, like The Nag's Head. Recommended reading: David said: "What John [Sullivan] tried to tune into was a huge mixture of like real people are. "They laugh, they cry. They take the mick out of each other. They go on trips together down the pub. "One of the great things I think John (Sullivan) did, which I'm very pleased to say and I'd wished they perhaps taken note at EastEnders, is that the pub was the central meeting place and it's full of very, very amusing characters."
