Sarah Jessica Parker Responds to the ‘AJLT' Hate Watchers

Cosmopolitan3 hours ago
Over the course of the show's three seasons, And Just Like That... fans morphed from die-hard Sex and the City lovers to hate watchers who tuned in every week just to make fun of Carrie's absurd outfits or Charlotte's lackluster storylines. Now that the show has officially come to an end, Sarah Jessica Parker has a message for And Just Like That... hate waters. Hint: She couldn't care less.
'I don't think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,' SJP told The New York Times when asked about the hate watching phenomenon. 'We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don't really care. And the reason I don't care is because it has been so enormously successful, and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful.' Touché.
Showrunner Michael Patrick King had a slightly different take on the And Just Like That...hate watchers when asked about it in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly. Calling the show 'the press piñata,' Michael seemed to understand that even hate waters were having fun. 'It's like a party game,' he said. But, he added, that feeling isn't necessarily representative of the entire fandom.
'There's a whole other experience besides the tip of the iceberg, which is the clap back and the fun and the, 'What's that hat about?'' He continued, 'There's 'What's that hat about?' And what we're more interested in is, 'What's that heart about?' And that's the show. It's both those things.'
And he's right. Because now that And Just Like That... has officially ended, whether you were a hate watcher or a tried and true fan, you're left asking yourself the same question: What in the world am I going to watch now?

Alicia Silverstone Recalled Kissing Her 30-Year-Old Costar When She Was Just 15 As She Reflected On Shooting This Controversial ‘90s Film

Back in 1993, Alicia Silverstone made her film debut in Alan Shapiro's thriller The Crush. Alicia, who was 15 when she shot the movie, starred as protagonist Adrian Forrester — a teenage girl who has a dangerous obsession with writer Nick Eliot, played by then-30-year-old Cary Elwes. In recent years, the film has been described as 'controversial' due to its subject matter. Related: This week, while reflecting on some of her iconic roles from the '90s in a video with Entertainment Weekly, Alicia recalled what it was like kissing Cary in the film. "I thought Cary always was my boyfriend, for sure, because he kissed me. I had to kiss the guy from The Princess Bride! I just remember that, when I was little... But he's a lot older than me," she shared. Related: 'We had this kiss in the film and, because I was young — I think I was 15 — I thought that that meant he was my boyfriend now! Not really, but a little bit. I went to his trailer and asked him if that was OK, and he was so kind,' she detailed. Alicia went on to recall feeling somewhat possessive over Cary when his wife, Lisa Marie Kubikoff, took photos of the two of them on set. 'Lisa Marie, his wife, sent me pictures from back in the day where we're laying together, and I'm looking at her while she's taking the picture like, 'This is my man,'' she said. Related: Alicia clarified that Cary was incredibly 'sweet' and took great care of her on set. 'He was a really good big brother to me and took care. He was so lovely. We had a very professional relationship, and he was very big-brother-like to me, and very sweet and kind. It was just a great job. What a great part to play. It was so fun,' she said. Soho House — members-only club that attracts A-listers — to go private in $2.7B deal

Soho House, the celebrity-studded members-only club where Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Lady Gaga sip cocktails, is going private in a $2.7 billion deal, the company said Monday. Hotel giant MCR Hotels is leading the takeover, offering $9 a share for Soho House's outstanding stock — a 17.8% premium over Friday's $7.60 close. Soho shares shot up 15.5%, to $8.82, in early trading on Monday after the company's announcement. Actor and tech investor Ashton Kutcher will join Soho's board following the deal, and hospitality veteran Neil Thomson will succeed Thomas Allen as chief financial officer effective immediately, according to Reuters. 4 Soho House, the celebrity-studded members' club, is going private in a $2.7 billion deal that ends a bruising boardroom brawl. Billionaire Ron Burkle, the controlling shareholder since 2012, will roll his majority stake into the new company, alongside other insiders, according to the Wall Street Journal. Apollo Global Management is pumping in more than $700 million in equity and debt financing to seal the deal. Apollo, the private equity firm with more than $600 billion in assets under management as of this year, released a statement confirming its role in the deal. Hedge fund activist Dan Loeb, who in January disclosed a nearly 10% stake and initially blasted the $9-a-share offer as one that shortchanged investors, said he is pleased with the planned move and supports the deal. 4 Hotel giant MCR Hotels is leading the takeover, offering $9 a share for Soho House's outstanding stock — a 17.8% premium over Friday's $7.60 close. Stephen Yang 'As both a shareholder and Soho House member, I support this transaction and am pleased to see management of the club in good hands,' Loeb told Reuters. For shareholders, the offer values the global club empire at roughly $2.8 billion, not including debt — a steep drop from its $14-a-share public debut in 2021. Founded in London in 1995 and crossing the Atlantic with a New York outpost in 2003, Soho House built its mystique on exclusivity and celebrity cachet. The Manhattan club even gained legendary status after an episode of 'Sex and the City' showed Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw getting turned away at its door. Membership now tops 200,000 across 46 locations worldwide, with fees running into the thousands. Younger applicants pay less, and the dress code famously discourages suits and ties. Some artists have even bartered their work for entry. 4 Soho shares shot up 15.5% to $8.82 in early trading on Monday after the company's announcement. Soho Works But rapid expansion has eroded some of the brand's allure. Members gripe about service delays, and snagging a poolside reservation in Manhattan or Brooklyn has become a cutthroat affair. Executives counter that exclusivity can be preserved by opening new locations, not packing in more people at existing ones. The company reported a 91.5% retention rate in 2023, with membership revenue climbing nearly 16% year-over-year to $118.6 million in the second quarter. It has posted three straight quarters of profit. The stock has seesawed since the IPO, reflecting what insiders call the 'lumpy' nature of the business. MCR Hotels, which controls 30,000 guest rooms nationwide, has been bulking up with high-profile properties such as the Royalton near Times Square and the Gramercy Park Hotel. It owns the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport and last year bought London's BT Tower for conversion into a hotel. 4 Soho House's location in London is seen in the above 2021 file photo. REUTERS The Post has sought comment from Soho House, MCR Hotels, Burkle and Loeb. Going private will let Soho House dodge quarterly earnings scrutiny and focus on long-term growth. Several other members-only haunts have popped up in the Big Apple since Soho House's debut, including Zero Bond, which counts Mayor Eric Adams among its regulars. San Vicente Bungalows requires members to cover their phone cameras. Casa Cipriani and chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten have opened swanky spaces of their own.

Sophie Turner Revealed She Accidentally Ended Another Celeb's Engagement

Turns out, a wave from Sophie Turner wields a lot of power. On a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Sophie and Seth reminisced on how they first met at a Comic-Con afterparty in 2014, during Sophie's Game of Thrones days. However, Sophie said of the evening, "That night was actually quite crazy for me. It went really south really quickly". Related: She continued, "We were going to have a great night. I really can't name names or I'll get in a lot of trouble, but I brought my best friend from my school days with me and she saw this actor that she loved. And she obviously just goes to me, 'Can you say hi?'" "I didn't know this actor," Sophie continued, noting that she simply gave him a wave from across the room. "That was it." Related: 'Later on, I see this girl looking at me and she's a famous actress. I was like, 'Oh, I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.'" "So, I dance on over and she goes, 'Can you stop fucking flirting with my fiancé?'" Sophie recalled. "I was like, 'Who's your fiancé?' She points at the guy I'd waved at. I went, 'I have no idea who this man is.'" "Turns out, I think they broke their engagement off that night. Because of my [wave]. I didn't realize I held this power," she added. Related: When Seth pointed out that most people intentionally trying to break up a couple likely wouldn't then "dance" over to the gal in question, Sophie replied, "I think she thought I was rubbing it in." So, who is the couple in question? It looks like the party Sophie is referring to is Entertainment Weekly's Annual Comic Con Celebration, which she also attended with Maisie Williams. Related: As some on Reddit have pointed out, Emma Roberts was also in attendance that night. At the time, she was on-and-off-again with her American Horror Story costar Evan Peters, who seemingly attended the party but didn't walk the red carpet. And Emma was then photographed after said party, crying and being consoled by friends — though it's not clear exactly what went down. Joe Scarnici / FilmMagic, Frazer Harrison / Getty Images A split in their engagement was reported in the summer of the following year, though they were seemingly back together a few months later. What do you make of the speculation? LMK in the comments! BuzzFeed has reached out to representatives for Emma and Evan for comment. Also in Celebrity: Also in Celebrity: Also in Celebrity:
