Boynton to Boca, what's new in Southern Palm Beach County's restaurant scene in 2025
We are still early in the year, but already southern Palm Beach County is vibrating with new arrivals on its already significant restaurant scene. And the variety is noteworthy, from Mexican fare and pizza to Argentinian steak and Italian. From Boynton Beach to Boca Raton, we took note of these eight arrivals. We recommend you check them out too.
Remember, these are the latest additions. Good food abounds in the county's southern reaches, including the recent Michelin "selected" Nicholson Muir Distinguished Meats in Boynton Beach. And Delray Beach can boast Death by Pizza, which topped The Palm Beach Post's reader's choice show down in 2024 and came in a very respectable second in the 2025 rounds.

Gesto
Taking over the space formerly occupied by the recently moved Amar Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar, this new restaurant is all about pizzas with a hybrid sourdough crust cooked to lightly-charred perfection. A product of Kurban Hospitality Group, Gesto opened Feb. 19 and uses only Italian flour and top of the line ingredients. Owner Nicholas Kurban said 'Pizza is a science, but great pizza is an art." With a wood-fired oven that cooks pies in under four minutes and a 15 second margin of error that either means perfection or start over, that artistry is on full display. Running that oven is seasoned pizzaiolo and artisan baker Garri Banar. With a passion for pizza and deep understanding of fermentation and flour, he has perfected a dough that is crisp, yet airy, with beautifully-blistered pockets and a delicate chew.

Bourbon Steak
The vision of James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Michael Mina, Bourbon Steak opened at The Seagate on Atlantic Avenue in March. Though specializing in high-quality cuts of American beef, Kobe beef, and wagyu, they are located only steps from the ocean and will feature plenty of fresh seafood and shellfish options. Way more than your basic steakhouse, Bourbon Steak slow poaches their steaks in butter before finishing them on a 900-degree, wood-fired grill. One dish in particular Mina said is popular across all the properties is the Maine lobster pot pie which is show in itself when served tableside.

Novecento
This popular Argentinian steakhouse concept opened their Delray Beach location in the historic Falcon House on Jan. 17. The menu features dishes from crudos and Milangas to risotto and house cut-and-rolled pasta. There's also Parrillada, a mixed grill platter. This shareable signature specialty is plated with Prime hanger steak, chicken, chorizo and mollejas (sweetbreads) augmented with four sides. Grass-fed beef, however, is the star at Novecento with a dozen preparations from carpaccio and salads to grilled steak cuts. Walking in feels like visiting a friend's house. Despite its somewhat tiny size, the subtle refit maximizes space with several intimate dining rooms and a very pretty bar. Outside's vibe is casual and comfortable, reminiscent of a quaint inn. ~Diana Biederman

Gabriella's Modern Italian
This new Delray Beach restaurant with New Jersey roots opened their doors on March 5. Described by owner Frankie Brusco as "more Italian, less steakhouse" than its sister restaurant Gabriella's Italian Steakhouse in Monmouth County, New Jersey, the restaurant features all-new construction with both indoor and outdoor seating. The Delray Beach location was designed by Celano Design Studio Co. out of Manhattan. Firecracker shrimp, truffle ricotta, signature spicy ricotta and the beautiful bistecca alla fiorentina for two are just some of the dishes awaiting guests.

Featuring Mediterranean cuisine, this is the seventh Motek location and the first not located in Miami-Dade County. Situated on Town Center Road in Boca Raton, their menu features dishes with influences from Lebanon, Turkey, Yemen, Morocco and more. Among diners' favorites, the "shakshuka for brunch is the top seller," said regional district manager Alexander Odishelidze. The chicken and lamb shawarma plates and sandwiches are also huge hits as is the schnitzel, he said. A 'must try' is their award-winning Arayes Burger. Featuring kosher, grass-fed beef kofta kebab (ground beef, spices, onions, garlic) it is served in a pita and won the People's Choice category at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival Burger Bash in 2022 and 2023. In addition to the food, the entire interior is designed transport guests to the eastern Mediterranean.

Gia Giudice Explains Why She's Planning to Move Out of Her Family's New Jersey Home: "It's a Lot"
Gia Giudice could be leaving the nest very soon. Although she will always be a Jersey girl at heart, the Next Gen NYC cast member said she plans to leave her family's Montville home in the next several months. Why? Well, Gia explained that her increasingly busy work schedule has required frequent commutes from New Jersey to Manhattan, which she found to be 'super exhausting.' 'It's a lot. My schedule has only picked up since Next Gen NYC, which is funny, because it picked up the summer we were filming Next Gen, and no one knew that we were filming it,' she recently told Today. 'It's just my career kind of started picking up, and my brand started growing, and I am in the city at least four times a week, so it's a lot of back and forth from Jersey.' After graduating from Rutgers University in 2023, The Real Housewives of New Jersey daughter moved back in with her mom, Teresa Giudice, and stepdad, Luis 'Louie' Ruelas. Gia spoke about her living situation in the March 23 episode of her Casual Chaos podcast, saying she didn't 'have an urgency to move out' of her family's $3.3 million mansion. 'I mean, I have everything I need at home,' she said. 'I know people that stay home until they get married. I make my own money, I do my own thing, but I just don't see the urgency to move out.' Gia told Today she wanted to start apartment hunting sometime in August and begin the moving process in September. However, the 24-year-old said she has yet to decide where she will live. Related: Inside Gia Giudice's Italian Vacation with Her BF & Her Dad For a Special Wedding (PICS) 'I'm either going to do Manhattan or Jersey City. I'm gonna figure it out,' she said, before revealing her plans to visit her family's abode regularly. 'I'll still spend my weekend at home, maybe every other weekend at home,' she continued. 'I have to see my Bella (her family's dog).'Related: Gia Giudice Reveals Her New Big Career Goal: "Put a Lot of Effort Into This..." Gia touched on a potential home move in a 2024 episode of her mom's podcast series, Turning the Tables. The Jersey native said she wanted to move in with her longtime boyfriend, Christian Carmichael, rather than live by herself. 'I think you should live on your own first,' Teresa told Gia. 'I do really want to move in with him, eventually,' Gia said. 'What am I going to do, mom? Live on my own? That's going to be so boring. He's literally going to be over every night anyway if I lived on my own." 'I give you my blessing if you want to move in with Christian,' Teresa responded. Gia reassured her mom she wasn't in any rush to shack up with her beau, saying, "When it happens, it happens." Pizza Week 2025: Mario's Pizza in Owego
OWEGO, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – News 34 is excited to announce the return of Pizza Week. 34 alum and now special pizza correspondent Mike Tanzini is resuming his tour of local pizzerias. First, Mike takes us out to Owego to learn about a familiar family recipe. 'It's just an ongoing tradition and a family-run business,' said Mario's Owner Jerry Pettinato. A staple in Owego, Mario's Pizza has been in business for over 45 years. A lot can change in four and a half decades. But if you ask Jerry Pettinato, if something ain't broke, you don't fix it. 'It hasn't been tweaked, it has not been changed, it's been the same recipe,' said Pettinato. Jerry knows a thing or two about the pizza business. His father and family managed an Italian restaurant in the Scranton area that's been in operation since the 1920s. Meanwhile, Jerry's father-in-law opened Mario's Pizza in the late 1970s. It wasn't long before Jerry jumped into the pizza biz to continue the family tradition. 'Between my wife being in the business, me being familiar with that, it seemed like a natural progression with me to get into this,' said Pettinato. It's a full family effort as Jerry, Amanda, Vinny, and Gina all work together to make the signature Mario's pizza, which starts with dough made fresh each day using a blend of flour, water, sugar, salt, and a special yeast. 'Fresh yeast is extremely fragile. It can't sit for a long time, or it will lose its potency,' said Pettinato. The dough will ferment for 24 to 36 hours, which enhances its flavor and makes it light, airy, and easy to work with. 'You go all the way around. Give it a little tug and pull. Let gravity stretch it out. Give it a little tug and a little turn. Unfortunately, it took me a little while to really get the technique. It's not about speed…oh there it goes. I jinxed myself here. Is this fixable? This is the magic of television. When this comes out, you probably won't be able to tell there was a hole in it,' said Pettinato. Next, it's time to drop down the sauce. 'One scoop of sauce dead center – kind of like target practice here,' said Pettinato. Mario's utilizes fresh California tomatoes. 'You want the best that you can possibly get. It's been the same brand of tomato for 45 years. That company is strict with their tolerances, and everything is perfect' said Pettinato. Along with a special blend of Italian seasonings, which packs a punch of fresh flavor. As with any loyal family business, Jerry isn't budging on revealing the family recipe. 'There are some traditional Italian seasonings. A little bit of TLC, a little bit of love, and we'll… just leave it at that,' said Pettinato. Now, time for the 100% whole milk, full cream mozzarella cheese that's going to melt beautifully and blanket our pie. After spreading what I'd consider a perfect layer of cheese, I feel like it might be time for a promotion! 'I'm in charge. My first order of business is giving everyone a half day. Jim is going to stay and make pizza with me.' After several minutes in the oven, we take it out, cut it up, and get ready to enjoy a meal as a family – the same meal that Mario's has been serving to customers, both young and old. 'They've been with us for generations. It's more than 45 years that we've been here. We're on second and third generations now coming up and seeing their kids and grandkids come in and have that same smile on their face when they take that first bite of pizza,' said Pettinato. I want to thank everybody at Mario's for helping me be a part of the family and for creating their signature Mario's pizza. There are some places out there that say, 'When you're here, you're family.' I can tell you firsthand that when you're down at Mario's, you're part of La Famiglia. Mario's is located at 51 Fox Street in Owego, which is the only location owned by the Pettinato family. Next, Mike heads to Vestal to learn about another long-time pizza staple in our community. Meanwhile, you can vote for your favorite local pie in our pizza poll by clicking here.
