NU NEP Fiasco: Many Marked Absent In BCom Marksheets

1 2 Nagpur: The second semester BCom (NEP) students from at least three colleges affiliated to Nagpur University complained of being marked absent in the results despite appearing for the paper in the summer exam. The results were declared earlier this month, after a delay of three months. The NU implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) from the academic year 2024-25, and these students are from the first batch facing teething troubles. Also, this was the first time the NU exam section conducted the exam and processed the results under the 50:50 formula. The first semester exams were conducted by colleges. As per the new exam scheme under NEP, the assessment modules have increased to nine on the marksheets. BCom has been allotted four majors, including business administration, which is being misunderstood as BBA by students. On Wednesday, the students approached exam section officials to demand correction in their results. The students said they had appeared in the BBA exam yet were marked absent in one subject, and the marksheets showed them as BCom students. Interestingly, the students who reached NU had failed in other subjects apart from being marked absent. Deputy registrar Manish Zodpe, who is holding the exam section charge, said the absentee error was rectified. Zodpe said many students were also not aware of the new exam scheme under the NEP and thus panicked after seeing BCom on marksheets. The students were asked to verify with their respective colleges, which admitted them for BBA by offering business administration (major). In 2024-25, NU had allowed BCom courses to offer this major while BBA course fell under AICTE. As AICTE rules invited several permissions and fees, many colleges chose to offer BCom with business administration as major.
