
UK media entrepreneur launches new print and digital mag Imagine
We're told the 292-page inaugural print edition represents a 'vibrant new media brand where high fashion, entertainment, and popular culture collide'.
Despite the bi-annual print issue being the high-profile feature of the launch, founder Gwyther said it's a 'digital-first magazine with a bold print edition that exists to break rules and spark ideas'.
It has a big focus on the talent it's featuring and Gwyther said it includes 'fearless fashion stories shaped by some of today's most exciting photographers and stylists, accompanied by in-depth, unfiltered 'head-to-head' conversations. With no rigid themes and a digital-first DNA — video, audio, and social content embedded from day one — Imagine is built to evolve, engage, and inspire'.
The launch issue comes with a line-up of digital and print covers spotlighting 'some of the most exciting emerging talents in global entertainment". Leading the charge are Hollywood breakout and Monster star Nicholas Alexander Chavez; Mexican actor, singer, and author Eiza González; and British rising star Yasmin Finney.
As for the team putting it together, Gwyther is editorial and creative director.
Olive Walton is editor-in-chief after a background spanning short film, music videos, television, and content production, before transitioning to editorial.
Justin Hamilton is fashion director, having worked with British Vogue, GQ, V Magazine, Dazed, and Numéro. And Kelly Cornwell is beauty director having worked with Vogue, i-D, Vanity Fair, and Elle, plus brands from Alexander McQueen to Laura Mercier.
Stuart Jackson takes the reins as publisher after holding senior commercial roles across titles including Wonderland, Hero, Heroine, and Man About Town. And Danner Tassone is US publisher, overseeing all North American operations.

Stressed UK teens seek influencers' help for exams success
He is among online study influencers gaining popularity among stressed British teenagers in search of exam success. But educators and examiners are concerned some pupils are relying too much on online advice. Malik posts videos on TikTok and YouTube forecasting questions on classic English literature for the UK GCSE school exam taken at 16. Last year "I predicted the entire paper," he says on his popular "Mr Everything English" channel. Malik, who says he is a former assistant head teacher, notes that he is just making an "educated guess", but educators remain concerned. "If you are a 15- or 16- year-old doing your GCSEs and you've got somebody in your phone who's telling you 'this is what the English exam is going to be about'... that is so appealing," said Sarah Brownsword, an assistant professor in education at the University of East Anglia. After British pupils sat their exams in May, some complained that Malik's predictions were wrong. "Never listening to you again bro," one wrote, while others said they were "cooked" (done for) and would have to work in a fast food restaurant. With GCSE results set to be released on August 21, one exam board, AQA, has warned of "increasing reliance on certain online revision channels". "Clearly this is an important source of revision and support for students," it said. But the examiners want "your interpretation of the texts you have studied, not some stranger's views on social media". 'Looking for help' Students are overloaded, school leaders say. "With so much content to cover and revise in every subject it can be completely overwhelming," Sarah Hannafin, head of policy for the school leaders' union NAHT, told AFP. "And so it is unsurprising that young people are looking for anything to help them to cope." Malik, whose prediction video has been viewed on YouTube 290,000 times, did not respond to a request for comment. Brownsword praised TikTok, where she posts grammar videos for student teachers, saying: "You can learn about anything and watch videos about absolutely anything". Teachers have always flagged questions that could come up, she said, but predicting exam questions online is "really tricky". "But I think there's a real difference between doing that and doing it on such a scale, when you've got thousands or tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of followers online." Other content creators defended such videos, however. "Those kind of videos were never to mislead," said Tilly Taylor, a university student posting TikTok videos with candid revision advice to 100,000 followers. "I make it very clear in my videos that these are predictions," based on past papers and examiners' reports, said Taylor, who appeals to younger viewers with her fashionable eye makeup. Other content creators sell predicted papers "all the time," Taylor said, but "I don't think it's right." Other educational influencers were more in favour. "If you're marketing it as a predicted paper, that's completely fine... you just can't say guaranteed paper," said Ishaan Bhimjiyani, 20, who has over 400,000 TikTok followers. He promoted a site offering an English predicted paper for £1.99 ($2.70) with a "history of 60-70 percent accuracy". 'It took off' Predicted papers allow you to "check whether you're actually prepared for the exam", said Jen, a creator and former teacher who posts as Primrose Kitten and declined to give her surname. Her site charges £4.99 for an English predicted paper and includes a video on phrasing to score top marks. Bhimjiyani, who went to a private school, started posting on TikTok at 16, saying he was "documenting my journey, posting about how I revise". "And then it kind of took off." He founded an educational influencer agency, Tap Lab, that now represents over 100 bloggers in their mid-teens to mid-20s. Influencers earn most from paid promotions -- for recruiters or beauty or technology brands --- which must be labelled as such, he said. Bhimjiyani made £5,000 with his first such video. Taylor said she recently promoted student accommodation. No one explained "how do you actually revise", Taylor said of her school years. So she turned to YouTube for ideas.

The next James Bond? Unknown British actor reportedly screentests
Speculation continues over the new James Bond adventure, which will be directed by Dune director Denis Villeneuve and written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Now that key filmmaking positions have been announced, all the new era of the 007 saga needs is a fresh secret agent. From Aaron Taylor-Johnson to three reported studio favourites, all bets are (still) off. Or are they? Reports of a relatively unknown actor have surfaced, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that Scott Rose-Marsh has screen tested for the role of the new 007. The 37-year-old British actor was brought in sometime in late June to read sides from 1995 Bond film GoldenEye. It is suggested he may have performed pages from Knight's in-progress script for Bond 26. Reports claims the London BRIT School graduate 'was given just one piece of direction before the test cameras rolled: Don't impersonate a previous Bond.' Rose-Marsh has a handful of film and TV credits, including the 2021 independent movie Krays: Code Of Silence (2021), as well as the UK TV shows Chloe (2021) and The Outlaws (2021-22). This news goes against reports that Amazon, which bought the 007 franchise for a reported $1 billion this year and are now in creative control, are looking for a younger actor in his 20s for the next Bond. It also confirms that the race to become the next James Bond is an unpredictable one, as there has never been a redheaded 007. Should Rose-March make it through the audition process and become the new Bond, he'll doubtlessly have UK tabloid headlines to deal with – especially considering the ridiculous fuss made over Daniel Craig's blond hair when he was cast in 2005. Still, it's early in the process and no official statements have been released regarding casting. Elsewhere, Succession star Brian Cox, who also hosts the Prime Video reality competition show spin-off 007: Road to a Million, recently said Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy would be an "interesting" choice to play James Bond. In an interview with Radio Times, Cox asked: "Is Cillian Murphy being recommended? I think that would be interesting. I like Cillian. He's very real, he's got no crap about him." In the interview, Cox went on to describe Valdimir Putin as a 'definite villain' and criticised Donald Trump's administration. 'There's certainly a lot of people around who I feel are villainous,' said the 79-year-old Scottish actor, adding: 'With what's happening in Ukraine, Putin is a definite villain, for my money.' 'I think some of the American behaviour has definitely been unthinking," said Cox. "What's tragic is that America was built on the notion of egalitarianism, and the present administration don't want us to be equal.' There is still no official release date or title for the 26th 007 movie.

Portugal airport strikes disrupt summer travel until Septembe
Travellers heading to Portugal this summer are being warned to expect weekend delays and cancellations as airport staff strike across the country throughout August. Aircraft servicing, baggage handling and check-in teams are walking out every weekend this month over low pay, unpaid night shifts and parking disputes following British-owned Menzies Aviation's takeover of Groundforce operations. Airports in Lisbon, Faro and Porto, as well as Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores, are all affected, with disruptions impacting flights during the height of the summer season. Travellers advised to check before flying The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has cautioned that the collective action over weekends in August could lead to significant delays. Portugal's airports managing company ANA has issued similar advice, warning that several airlines – including state-owned carrier TAP – are likely to be affected. Passengers should be ready for more weekend disruption as soon as tomorrow, with the third of the five planned strikes set to begin: 15 to 18 August 22 to 25 August 29 August to 1 September Flights have already been delayed and cancelled The strikes have caused chaos at Portugal's busiest airports. On the first weekend, Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport scrapped more than 70 flights. The second wave from 8 to 11 August brought more headaches with eight flights to Lisbon cancelled. Long delays also held up departures. According to union sources cited by Lusa News Agency, around 25 flights left without passengers' checked bags, too. The standoff has sparked a bitter public feud between Menzies and the Metallurgical and Related Industries Union (SIMA), which represents the striking employees. 'We were forced into this situation by the intransigence of the current management, represented by its vice-president Rui Gomes, who opted for confrontation instead of dialogue, refusing solutions that respected workers' rights and the interests of the country,' SIMA leader Carlos Araújo said in a statement earlier in August. 'In the middle of the high tourist season, Menzies and TAP have chosen to turn their backs on their professionals, customers and all those who visit Portugal, with an arrogant, irresponsible and calculated attitude.' Meanwhile, Menzies said plans were in place to keep operations running and insisted the company respects the law and workers' rights. A spokesperson for Menzies told Lusa that the union '[insists] on promoting a distorted narrative based on unfounded allegations.' Chaos reigns across European airports Portugal's strikes are just one part of a summer of disruption across Europe. Italy endured a four-hour nationwide airport strike on 26 July, after earlier walkouts forced 73 flight cancellations in one day across Milan, Venice and Naples. Spain has already seen disruption from Volotea's crew and pilots, who staged a strike on 26 July, affecting flights to more than 100 destinations. Now, from 15-17 August, airports across Spain expect more delays, as more than 3,000 workers at Azul Handling – part of the Ryanair group – have planned a walk-out at 12 airports. The strikes are expected to continue weekly through December. But few strikes have had the impact of those in France. Air staff strikes in July forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights, affecting more than 1 million passengers. Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary slammed the strikes as 'holding European families to ransom' and called for EU action to protect travellers. Holidaymakers heading to Portugal or elsewhere in Europe are advised to leave extra time at airports, monitor announcements from airlines and expect delays at major hubs. With strikes coinciding with peak-season travel, this summer's ongoing disruptions serve as a reminder of how quickly holiday plans can be blown off course.
