Maoist camp busted in Odisha's Nuapada, explosives seized
Nuapada SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said on Tuesday the camp was located near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border and appeared to have been recently abandoned by the Maoist cadres. 'Basing on reliable intelligence inputs, we carried out search in the area and recovered several explosive materials like one tiffin improvised explosive device (IED), 20 gelatin sticks, an electric detonator, connecting wires, a torchlight, polythene sheets and other camp-related materials,' he added.
The SP further pointed out that the seizure of the tiffin IED and other explosives suggests that the Maoist group was likely planning violent activities targeting security personnel or civilians. 'The timely operation by the DVF has averted any such potential threat. Security forces have intensified combing and area domination operations in and around the region to trace the movement of Naxal elements and ensure the safety of the local population,' he said.
The joint operations are being carried out regularly in the border areas in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF to keep the region secure, the SP informed.
On May 15, security forces had uncovered a Maoist camp within the protected forest near Gatibeda in the Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary in Komna area.

Delhi court grants custody parole to MP Engineer Rashid to attend Parliament
A Delhi court on Tuesday granted custody parole to jailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid from July 24 to August 4 to attend the Monsoon Session of Parliament. On the other hand, his interim bail plea was rejected. Rashid had argued in court that he should either be granted interim bail or permission to attend Parliament in custody, without payment of travel costs, as he was seeking to attend Parliament as his public duty and not for personal work. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, however, imposed travel costs on him. Rashid's lawyers are likely to challenge the order in Delhi High Court. Rashid had defeated National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in Baramulla by 2 lakh plus votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 in an eight-year-old terror funding case. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Rashid on August 9, 2019, four days after the abrogation of Article 370 and the removal of Jammu and Kashmir's special status. The NIA's case is that Rashid used various public platforms to 'propagate the ideology of separatism and secessionism', and was closely associated with various terrorist organisations. The agency had also alleged that he wanted to 'legitimise' the United Jihad Council (UJC), a platform of anti-India militant groups in J-K. Charges were framed against Rashid in March 2022 under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against the government), and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code and for offences relating to terrorist acts and terror funding under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). However, Rashid has maintained that the NIA has only produced an old Facebook post and statements of two protected witnesses to implicate him. He has also argued that he has already been discharged under sections 20, 38, and 39 of the UAPA, which pertain to being part of a terrorist organisation and lending support to it.

People advised against hastily clicking suspicious links
Anantapur: District SP P Jagadeesh has issued a public alert warning citizens to remain cautious about fake APK files being circulated in the name of 'e-Challan'. The SP cautioned the public against hastily clicking on suspicious links shared via social media and messaging platforms. According to the SP, a fake mobile application named 'RTO Traffic is currently going viral on various platforms. Cybercriminals are using this fake app to lure unsuspecting users into downloading malicious software onto their mobile phones. Once installed, the APK file can steal sensitive information including bank details, credit card data, and OTPs, leading to unauthorised online purchases and transactions. 'These links may appear in trusted WhatsApp groups and look official. But clicking on them and installing the APK file can give cybercriminals remote access to your device and sensitive data,' said SP Jagadeesh. The fraudsters first share the fake APK file in familiar WhatsApp groups. Believing it to be genuine, some users download and install the file. Once installed, the app gains access to the user's SMS (including OTPs), bank information, and credit card details. In many cases, messages about unauthorised online purchases start appearing shortly after installation. These files can access SMS and intercept OTPs. May retrieve your bank account and card information. They also allow hackers to remotely control your phone. The SP advised people not to click on suspicious or unauthorised links. To avoid downloading APK files shared via WhatsApp or social media. He suggested to people only download apps from trusted sources like the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. In case of any cyber fraud, citizens are advised to promptly report the incident by calling 1930 or visiting The SP emphasised the need for increased vigilance as cybercriminals continuously adapt their tactics to exploit public trust through seemingly legitimate campaigns.
