British actor Micheal Ward, best known for his breakout role in Netflix's Top Boy and acclaimed appearances in Empire of Light and Eddington, has been formally charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police. The alleged offences involve one woman and are reported to have occurred in January 2023.
Ward, 27, from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London on August 28, 2025.
Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, who is leading the investigation, stated that the Met's specialist officers are continuing to support the woman involved. 'We know investigations of this nature can have a significant impact on those who make reports,' Ware said in a statement.
Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, confirmed that the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed a file of evidence and authorized the charges. 'Micheal Ward has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault,' she said. Baccas also emphasized the importance of a fair trial, reminding the public not to share content or commentary that could prejudice the proceedings.
Ward rose to prominence for his role as Jamie in Top Boy, which ran from 2013 to 2022. In 2020, he won the BAFTA Rising Star Award and later earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Steve McQueen's Lovers Rock. Most recently, he appeared in the Cannes-premiering film Eddington, alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone.
Ward has not publicly commented on the charges. Legal proceedings are now active, and further developments will unfold in court.

'Better Late Than Single' fans call for kinder treatment after season finale sparks backlash

Fans of the Netflix dating series Better Late Than Single have voiced concern about online hostility towards cast members following the season finale. Despite wrap-up satisfaction with the show's conclusion, many viewers have criticised the intense scrutiny and backlash directed at individuals, especially following the final decision between Yi Do, Ha Jeong‑mok and Park Ji‑yeon. The show, featuring first-time daters undergoing makeovers, challenges and connection-building at a resort, concluded with Jeong‑mok choosing Ji‑yeon over Do—a development that left Do visibly upset. Some believe editing amplified her emotional state, with one viewer remarking scenes depicting Do sitting tearfully on a rooftop swing felt excessively staged. Online, several viewers called out the disproportionate criticism faced by the cast. One post on X urged empathy: 'It's fair for someone to want a partner who matches lifestyle or values... but let's not bully him.' On Reddit, another fan shared frustration, writing: 'I'm genuinely shocked at the HATE Jeong‑mok and Ji‑yeon are getting! These people have never dated—this was their first experience.' Many fans appealed for more compassionate discourse and requested future seasons present a broader perspective. Among anticipations for Season 2 are expectations for longer interaction periods so introverted cast members can open up, as well as more guidance from mentors and personality-led activities. Requests for increased screen time for quieter participants like Seung‑chan and Mi‑ji also featured prominently. Some expressed wishes for reunion or BTS episodes to better understand interpersonal dynamics. One fan stated they'd loved to see more moments between Jae‑yun and Min‑hong, praising her kindness and his growing confidence. As Netflix considers renewal, the passionate viewer response highlights that while the show resonated with many, audiences hope for greater sensitivity in both production and online reactions in future seasons.

Meryl Streep draws crowds in heatwave as fans wait hours to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 set in New York

Fans congregated along midtown Manhattan, enduring temperatures near 100 °F, in hopes of catching a glimpse of Meryl Streep and her Devil Wears Prada 2 co-stars filming inside a Dior store. The location was secured as the setting for a scene, with windowpanes covered by crumpled brown paper to shield the interior. Approximately 60 people stood in the shade across the street, phones at the ready in expectation of spotting the legendary actress. The filming took place across a busy six-lane section of 57th Street, with taxis and cyclists passing between viewers and the closed storefront. One onlooker, Diana Nassar, paused during her workday at Prime Video to photograph the scene. She had been tracking the production on Instagram and was redirected to the shoot location by a crew member who provided the schedule and water to ease her wait. 'I just want to see something in action,' Nassar said, reflecting the sentiment of many who had gathered. Among them were Alison Stewart and her sister Sarah McManus, British tourists who had planned a U.S. film location tour. They learned the shoot coincided with their New York stop, and arrived by late morning, hoping to witness at least one take before their evening flight. Stewart recounted spotting Streep exiting a car: 'It was exciting.' Meanwhile, New York software engineer Amal Matmati said she braved the heat to admire the cast's fashion and costumes. Paparazzi had already captured images of Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt in stylish new looks ahead of the film's release. Matmati added, 'It's out of context... it makes me more excited to see the movie.' While Disney's 20th Century has not publicly announced upcoming shoot locations, production notice postings bearing the word 'cerulean' hinted at the film's connection to the original's iconic reference. For many spectators, the real-time fashion tableau on set only deepened anticipation for what the sequel may bring.

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas arrested

Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA All-Star known as 'Agent Zero,' was federally indicted on July 15, 2025, and arrested on July 30 in Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege he hosted high-stakes illegal poker games at his Encino home from September 2021 to July 2022. The indictment charges Arenas with conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, running that business, and making false statements to federal investigators. He is accused of renting out his mansion and directing co-conspirators, such as Arthur Katz, to stage the games, collect rent, and recruit participants. The games reportedly included Pot Limit Omaha, with players charged a 'rake' per hand or pot. Court records indicate the operation included staff like chefs, armed security, and valets. Young women were allegedly hired to serve drinks, provide massages, and offer companionship, some reportedly paying a 'tax' on their tips. One defendant, Levgen Krachun, worked as a 'chip runner,' tracking player wins and distributing poker chips. Arenas pleaded not guilty in federal court and was released on a $50,000 bond. His trial is scheduled to begin on September 23, 2025. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison per count. Among the five co-defendants arrested are Yevgeni Gershman, identified as a suspect in an Israeli-based organized crime group and also charged with immigration fraud tied to a sham marriage; Evgenni Tourevski; Allan Austria; Yarin Cohen; and Levgen Krachun. Each faces similar gambling-related charges. The case surfaced amid renewed attention on Arenas after the Netflix documentary Untold: Shooting Guards, which revisited incidents from his playing days, including the 2009 gun-related locker room confrontation that led to his suspension
