Ed Davey supports emotional wife as they open up on caring for disabled son
Ed Davey and his wife Emily opened up about being a carer for their son during a candid interview on This Morning with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley
This Morning returned to TV screens on Tuesday (10 June) with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard back at the helm of another packed show.
The pair discussed the latest headlines, fashion tips and health issues during the show, which also saw Ben and Cat sit down with politician Ed Davey and his wife Emily for a candid interview.

Ed, who is the leader of the Liberal Democrat party, and Emily spoke about caring for their son John, 17, who has severe learning and physical disabilities due to an undiagnosed neurological condition. John requires round-the-clock care, which both Ed and Emily provide alongside external carers.

Their son remains without an official diagnosis, with Ed explaining that John finds walking and communicating difficult, adding: "Because he's undiagnosed, you're on a journey both with the people in the health service, and other carers."

Emily went on to share the reality of being a carer for a loved one, and told how she thinks carers are simply "too tired" to campaign to make their voices to be heard.
"We're not different from anybody else, it's a very ordinary story in many ways of being a carer.
"But, part of the issue about being a carer is that it's physically and emotionally exhausting, so by the end of the day, you just collapse into bed," Emily, who married Ed back in 2005, told Ben and Cat.

Ed admitted he and Emily are "very lucky," before adding: "Because I'm in politics, I want to make sure I can be the voice of many carers out there."

The couple's appearance on This Morning was also to mark the release of Ed's autobiography, titled Why I Care: And Why Care Matters , which landed on shelves on 22 May.

The book sees the politican reveal "a deeply personal account of life as a carer and a call to support those who care for others." It also features accounts from other carers, in a bid to raise awareness.
Ed has been a keen advocate for carers for many years and also has an interest in speech therapy, as John has speech difficulties.
This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1

Wynne Evans slams BBC in explosive live TV interview with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley Wynne Evans did not hold back on his criticism of the BBC during his interview Wynne gave "his side" of the story on This Morning (Image: ITV ) Wynne Evans has appeared on This Morning, to explain "his side" of the story behind the Strictly Come Dancing scandals. During the interview with This Morning Wynne did not hold back on his criticism of the BBC. Since the scandals which included Wynne making an inappropriate comment towards host Janette Manrara, Wynne putting his hand on his professional dance partner Katya Jones's waist and her removing it on Strictly Come Dancing and sending fellow Strictly celebrity EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick a sex toy, while on tour, Wynne has not had his BBC radio show contract renewed. ‌ After the comment incident, which took place during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, the BBC issued an apology on Wynne's behalf. ‌ Wynne says he did not give permission for this to happen. He said: "I said 'oh God, I'm sorry', they took that as an apology, they didn't run it by me, they sent it off to the newspaper, they printed that as my apology and that's the situation I was in. I remember saying to the people at Strictly oh look, we've done this video... they said you can't put that out, that's too long, just make it 10 seconds. "It turns into some kind of hostage-style video where I am in the background going 'sorry'..." ‌ Finally, Wynne claims he has been offered no support from the BBC with his mental health following his exit. He said: "I haven't heard from them since I got suspended, to me, I haven't heard from them, they've only spoken to my lawyers." Emmerdale and Coronation Street face major changes

Peter Fincham was the former Director of Television at ITV before Kevin Lygo took over. Fincham has suggested that, due to budget concerns at ITV, Emmerdale could move filming away from Yorkshire and merge production with Coronation Street in Manchester. The ex-ITV boss has predicted that following the recent announcement of daytime changes at the broadcaster, it's likely executives are looking at similar measures for the two soaps. It's the question on everyone's minds... Is Robert back for good? Read more here: Discussing the soaps on The TV Podcast, Fincham said: "You've got Coronation Street being made in Manchester, Emmerdale in Leeds. 'Could you imagine, rather like the daytime consolidation, that ITV will decide to have them both made in the same place under one umbrella? Big savings. 'You still keep Emmerdale set in Yorkshire, but it could be made in Manchester and Salford, which is a bigger hub for ITV. 'I don't think that's inconceivable — it might be being planned as we speak." Emmerdale is currently made in north Leeds, while Coronation Street is mostly filmed in MediaCity in Salford. As the ex-ITV boss adds: "The new hub for Coronation Street in Salford, it cost many, many millions of pounds and it was better facilities for all the people who worked on it in the old place in the middle of Manchester." "Both are uniquely set in Manchester and Leeds and that production model will continue for the long term. "It's pure speculation to say otherwise." The change follows news that ITV is making major changes to its daytime scheduling in 2026. The overhaul will see Good Morning Britain (GMB) extended by half an hour from January 2026, while Lorraine Kelly's morning talk show will be reduced to 30 minutes for 30 weeks of the year.

Wynne Evans teary as he says 'I wanted to end my life' over Strictly scandal

More info Opera singer Wynne Evans struggled to hold back tears as he opened up about the Strictly Come Dancing scandal that left him feeling suicidal during an emotional interview on This Morning. The 53-year-old Welsh singer has faced a turbulent few months after being dropped by the BBC following an apology saying that he used "inappropriate language" during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour. On Wednesday, Wynne emotionally revealed that the "relentless" scandal had pushed him to his lowest point. Wynne said: "I've had clinical depression since 2016, I was diagnosed. I want to talk about it today because I want other people to find strength from that. It took me to the darkest point in my life." (Image: ITV) Choking back tears, he recalled the devastating moment he told his girlfriend, to whom he recently got engaged to: "I remember saying to my girlfriend: 'I have to kill myself, I have to...'" Wynne's voice cracked as he fought to compose himself. He credited his loved ones for their unwavering support during his darkest hour, saying: "I was on the crisis team for a month, and they just looked after me the whole time", reports Wales Online. "My friends, family, and girlfriend had a rota so they could be with me 24 hours a day, sitting up with me because it was just so relentless." Wynne also shared a heart-wrenching conversation with his daughter: "I said to my daughter: 'I'm sorry I brought shame on the family' because even though I didn't do what they said I did, I still brought all these headlines. "She just said: 'Look, dad, I know you, you're just this kind person, and I just want you to know that I can see the video, I've seen it for myself, I know exactly what you said.' They've been utterly brilliant and my girlfriend's been fantastic as well." (Image: BBC) This Morning host, Ben Shephard, also read a statement from the BBC which said: "We provided comprehensive duty of care for Wynne that included support by wellbeing professionals. "He was also provided with direct access to a designated contact at the BBC who was available to assist him at anytime. Plus he has been offered continued support since his contract with the BBC concluded." The interview comes as the Welsh opera singer, known for the insurance advertisements, announced last month that he will no longer be a BBC Radio Wales presenter. Wynne revealed in January that he would be taking some time out from both his radio show and the Strictly tour to prioritise his wellbeing. A spokesperson for the BBC recently said: "Wynne Evans is not under contract with the BBC. He is not returning to the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Wales, and there are currently no plans to work with him." (Image: ITV) Reflecting on his journey in an emotive post on Instagram last month, he penned: "My beloved Wynners, From the very depths of my heart – thank you. "These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know." He added: "It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract, so I won't be returning to my radio show. I'm gutted. "That show wasn't just work – it was home. It was us. We laughed, we cried, we sang like nobody was listening. And somehow, through the airwaves, we became a family." Wynne thanked his fans and said he would have an online programme called The Wynne Evans Show, which he called "terrifying". "This is our next adventure. And I need you more than ever," he added. (Image: Instagram) "We will have great music, my question of the day, the mystery voice, your soundtrack stories and so much more, because we have each other again. We have a new home. I'm bringing more presenters soon, and I am sure you'll recognise a few of the faces." He admitted that he was "full of nerves. Full of hope. Full of love. Because when we show up for each other — like we always have — anything is possible." Earlier this year, he apologised for language that he called "inappropriate and unacceptable" after The Mail on Sunday reported that Wynne was heard making a remark in a video filmed during the Strictly launch event. It is understood he was given a warning over the remark by tour producers. In January, he announced: "I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing. "I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. "Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances, and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me." *If you have been affected by this story, you can call the Samaritans for free on 116 123 or visit
