Amazon quietly adds 'simply perfect' horror movie
It was a huge hit with fans and critics alike
Amazon Prime has finally added what fans are calling the 'best horror film of 2024', described as a 'masterclass in suspense'.
Heretic, which appeared on the platform's coming soon list over a month ago, is now available for streaming at no extra cost to Prime subscribers from today (June 1).
The film created quite a buzz when it hit cinemas last year, featuring iconic British actor Hugh Grant in an unexpected role that earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Leading Actor.
The plot centres around two young missionaries who find themselves caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse after knocking on the door of the sinister Mr. Reed (Grant). Trapped in his house, they must rely on their faith to escape alive.
Written and directed by filmmaking duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, known for writing the original A Quiet Place together, their latest project was equally well received, earning a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reports the Daily Record.
One verified reviewer said it 'messes with your mind'. Fans continue to heap praise on the film, with many claiming it is the 'hands down, best horror movie of 2024.'
Viewers have been raving about the psychological thriller Heretic, with one commenting: "Thought-provoking. Somewhere between Saw, Cube, and 10 Cloverfield Lane, wrapped in a 'crisis of faith' theme. Come for the psychological thriller, stay for the philosophical killer. Excellent performances/directing. Much like the titular antagonist, the film manages to hold a microscope up to religion while giving us challenging choices to make."
Hugh Grant has earned high praise for his role in the film, as one audience member remarked: "Heretic is an absolute masterclass in suspense and psychological horror, and Hugh Grant delivers one of the most chilling performances of his career."
The same fan added: "Stepping away from his usual charming roles, Grant embodies pure menace with eerie precision, proving once again why he's one of the most versatile actors in the industry."
Praise was also heaped on A24 by a cheerer of their work, who said they 'knocked it out the park again', while another viewer suggested 'Hollywood has done a disservice to Hugh Grant.'
That person elaborated: "Based on this performance, he clearly should have been given more antagonist roles. He chews up dialogue like Denzel in Training Day and easily layers on tension and malice. Fantastic."
Another enthusiast expressed that their immediate reaction after seeing the film was simply: "This movie is simply PERFECT. Like Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" perfect."

EastEnders Bernie star supported by cast as she breaks silence on show axe
EastEnders actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in the soap, has broken her silence after it was revealed she'd been axed by the BBC soap Actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in EastEnders, has spoken out weeks after it was revealed she had been axed from the BBC soap after eight years. Clair, 27, joined her fellow castmates at this weekend's British Soap Awards, in which the soap won an incredible 8 awards. It included wins for Best British Soap, Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' surprise return. The cast and crew were out in full force celebrating, as Clair addressed her exit for the first time in a post from the night - calling it an "amazing end". Taking to her Instagram to post a picture of herself all glammed up in a teal dress on the night, Clair penned: "My last @thebritishsoapawards with my EE family. We [broom emoji] up last night, 8 awards & I couldn't be prouder to be apart of this team! What a way to end this amazing journey, head held high & beaming from ear to ear." Clair was supported by both fans as colleagues in her post, with James Farrar, who plays Zack Hudson writing: "Head held HIGH," along with a number of red heart emojis. Emma Barton who plays Honey Mitchell echoed: "Love you," as Elijah Holloway who plays Harry Mitchell gushed: "We looked lovely didn't we." Clair also posted pictures with co-star Matthew James Morrison, who has also been axed from the soap after playing the role of Felix Baker since 2022. Bernie arrived in Walford in 2017 alongside mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). However, she's the last one of her family members left on the Square with her mum Karen leaving EastEnders in 2023, shortly followed by the murder of her brother Keanu on Christmas Day. According to The Sun, Bernie's exit storyline didn't come as a surprise to star Clair. A source told the publication: "Every time a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own changes – it's nothing personal. "The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn't really a surprise to Clair." "She was the last Taylor standing and it's time to close the chapter on them and let Clair go on to do other things." EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Speaking to radio host Jordan North, she was asked which reality show she would like to do. Jessie then replied: "Big Brother, yeah but I don't know how much (money I would do it) for, but I would love to do it." Teasing fans she said: "Maybe I've already been asked but I couldn't do it, and my family were like 'don't do it', and I was like, 'why?' "But it opened a lot of conversations in my family about why I shouldn't do it." JESSIE'S BIG COMEBACK Jessie is getting ready to release her sixth studio album, which will be her first in seven years. It will include her new single, No Secrets, which she released in April. Earlier this year, The Sun revealed how the singer had been working with Adele's favourite songwriting partner Ryan Tedder. An insider said: 'Jessie has recorded a string of new songs and has her fifth album ready to go. 'She's been through some seismic changes in her life over the past couple of years, most notably becoming a mum, and it's inspired her to get back into the studio. Jessie J reveals she's 'unemployed' as she quits pop job after 17 years and having first baby- 'Jessie spent time writing with Ryan, who wrote her song I Want Love, and they've come up with some amazing new tunes. 'It has been a long time coming but the timing had to be right. 'She didn't want to keep churning out record after record, and wanted it to feel authentic and real. Jessie's last album, R.O.S.E, was released in four parts in 2018 but failed to have the impact the ex-Voice UK coach had hoped for. 4 Jessie unleashed her new single, No Secrets, last month Credit: Splash In 2023, she split from Republic Records after 17 years and told fans she was looking for a fresh start. Becoming a mum to son Sky was also a driving force behind her wanted to go in a different direction. She said at the time: 'There's no negative spin, nothing's happened, it's not dramatic. 'It's just me literally saying, 'This doesn't feel right' and it hasn't for years.'
