Kanye West releases long-awaited album ‘Donda 2' on streaming platforms

Express Tribune30-04-2025

Kanye West has released his long-delayed album Donda 2 on major streaming services, making the project widely available for the first time since its initial debut in 2022.
Originally announced as a follow-up to his 2021 record Donda, West had teased Donda 2 through social media in early 2022, confirming rapper Future as executive producer. However, the album bypassed traditional platforms, launching exclusively via West's Stem Player device.
Now reissued under the artist name 'Donda,' the updated version includes 18 tracks. Many of these were present in the original iteration, albeit with changes to song titles and track arrangements. Future appears on multiple songs, including 'Happy' and 'Mr. Miagi,' while a shortened version of '5:30,' which also featured on Vultures 2 with Ty Dolla Sign, is included.
The album features several notable guest appearances. Jack Harlow contributes to the track 'Louie Bag,' and Sean Leon is featured on 'SCIFI.' A voice sample from Kim Kardashian, West's former wife, also appears on 'SCIFI.' In the clip, Kardashian says, 'I married the best rapper of all time. Not only that, he's the richest Black man in America. A talented, legit genius who gave me four talented, incredible kids.'
Despite the surprise release, West indicated during a livestream earlier on Tuesday that the album's mixes may be subject to future updates. He expressed his intent to revisit and adjust the sound of several tracks.
In recent months, West has been active on social media, sharing new music and visuals. His last project, Bully, dropped in March through short film releases, which have since been taken down, leaving the album's availability uncertain.
Donda 2 is now streaming on Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube Music. It remains to be seen whether it will appear on additional platforms.

Taylor Swift's ‘Reputation' sees record-breaking streaming surge eight years after release

Taylor Swift's 2017 album Reputation has experienced a significant resurgence on Spotify, amassing 9.9 million streams in a single day—the highest since its release eight years ago. This surge follows Swift's recent acquisition of her master recordings from Shamrock Capital, granting her full ownership of her early music catalog, including Reputation. Previously, Swift had embarked on re-recording her early albums as "Taylor's Versions" to regain control over her music. However, with the purchase of her original masters, the necessity for these re-recordings has diminished. While Reputation (Taylor's Version) remains unreleased, the original album's newfound accessibility has led to renewed interest among listeners. Swift's influence in the music industry remains formidable. Her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department set streaming records, and she was named Spotify's most-streamed global artist for the second consecutive year. This continuous success ensures that both her new releases and original works, like Reputation, remain prominent in the public eye.

Drake breaks RIAA record with 10 Diamond certifications across singles and collaborations

Drake has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the artist with the most RIAA Diamond certifications ever — a total of ten. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed the news on May 28, announcing that his singles 'Hold On, We're Going Home' and 'Best I Ever Had' have now reached Diamond status, joining an already impressive list. With this update, Drake's Diamond-certified catalog also includes hits like 'God's Plan,' 'One Dance,' 'Hotline Bling,' Travis Scott's 'SICKO MODE,' 'Life Is Good' with Future, Lil Wayne's 'Love Me,' and Chris Brown's 'No Guidance.' These achievements place Drake ahead of Garth Brooks and Post Malone, who each hold nine Diamond certifications. The RIAA celebrated the milestone with a social media post showcasing all 10 plaques. Drake now stands as the first artist to hit double-digit Diamond certifications across both singles and albums. An 11th certification may be on the horizon, with 'Nice for What' currently certified 9x Platinum. Fans quickly reacted on social media. 'You just simply can't say anything bad about this,' one person wrote. Others used the occasion to reference Drake's ongoing rivalry with Kendrick Lamar, commenting, 'Looks like the 20v1 didn't work out!' Beyond the certifications, Drake continues to stay active. In February, he released his collaborative album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U with PARTYNEXTDOOR, with two tracks still charting on the Billboard Hot 100. This summer, he's scheduled to headline all three nights of Wireless Festival in London from July 11–13 and is also planning the return of OVO Fest in Toronto. Drake's consistency and dominance show no signs of slowing down.
