Man flips out over Penang char koay teow
GEORGE TOWN : Police say they will not take action against a man who attacked a char koay teow seller in New Lane here over the weekend.
In a viral video shot by a member of the public at about 7pm on July 5, the man appeared to be upset that the hawker was ignoring a question about which plate of the noodles was his.
He then proceeded to shout at one of the two stallholders, appearing to slap one of them.
One of the stallholders then threatened to call the police, with the irate man saying to go ahead, before proceeding to flip the hawker's wok.
In a statement this evening, Timur Laut deputy police chief Lee Swee Sake said one of the stallholders had lodged a police report over the incident.
'After investigations, we have classified the case as no further action after the complainant forgave the suspect, who had apologised to him after the incident.
'The complainant also does not wish to pursue the case, as neither he nor his family members suffered any loss or injury,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has urged organisers to cancel today's planned gathering in Kepala Batas, which is linked to the upside-down Jalur Gemilang incident at a hardware store. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police take seriously any issue that could compromise public safety and well-being. "We are aware of a planned gathering in Bertam, Kepala Batas today, and have advised all parties involved to cancel it. "This is to safeguard the local community and to avoid any unhealthy confrontations between opposing groups," he said in a statement today. Khalid said police investigations are ongoing into the incident involving the upside-down display of the Jalur Gemilang, which recently went viral on social media. "To date, 38 police reports have been lodged nationwide, 17 in Penang and 21 in other states. "The investigation includes action against individuals who recorded and disseminated the footage, under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said, adding that the investigation paper was submitted to the Penang Public Prosecutor's Office on Aug 11 and is currently under review. He said the police remain committed to conducting the investigation transparently, with integrity, and in accordance with the law, to ensure peace and harmony in society. "The public is advised not to speculate in ways that could affect the investigation process. Instead, accurate information should be channelled directly to the police," he said. It was previously reported that police launched an investigation after a video showing a man hoisting the Jalur Gemilang upside down went viral on Aug 9. The video, posted on Facebook, shows the man raising the national flag incorrectly while another individual recorded the incident. The complainant, who came across the video, suspected it took place in Kepala Batas and subsequently lodged a report at the Kepala Batas police station.

KEPALA BATAS, Aug 14 — The police have urged the cancellation of a planned gathering in Bertam here today over the issue of Malaysian flag, to prevent any confrontation between opposing groups. PDRM said the move was to safeguard the safety of the local community and maintain public order, after both Umno Youth and DAP planned to host events on the matter. 'The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) views seriously any matter that has the potential to affect the safety and well-being of the public,' said Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. 'To safeguard the safety of the local community and to prevent any form of unhealthy confrontation between opposing groups, PDRM advises all parties involved to cancel the planned gathering,' he added. The police said they had investigated an incident involving the Jalur Gemilang being flown upside down, which had gone viral on social media. A total of 38 police reports were lodged nationwide over the incident, comprising 17 in Penang and 21 in other states. The investigation also covers actions against individuals who recorded and disseminated the footage under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The investigation paper was submitted to the Penang Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office on August 11 and is currently under review. The controversy began when a 59-year-old hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, was investigated after the Jalur Gemilang was seen hanging upside-down outside his premises. The shop owner has reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake made while measuring a flagpole, which he corrected soon after. Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh previously said it planned to hold a 'class' for the Penang shop owner, but later cancelled it after a warning by the police. DAP then announced it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilise Penang party members to distribute 831 flags, should anyone attempt to stir trouble.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — Police have launched an investigation into a scuffle between demonstrators and officers during a protest at Jalan Parlimen yesterday, after videos of the incident went viral on social media. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said TikTok footage showed participants provoking and charging at law enforcement personnel who were on duty to maintain order during the memorandum submission. 'One officer sustained injuries as a result of the clash and has received medical treatment,' he said in a statement. An investigation has been opened under Sections 353 and 427 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duties, and for committing mischief resulting in damage to property.
