Nominees for the prestigious Ballon d'Or 2025 for both men and women have been announced, as well as candidates for other coveted accolades, ahead of the ceremony in September this year. The event honors the major football performances of the year across the world. The lists are headlined by standout performers from both Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, which bagged the Champions League title in the men's and women's tournaments, respectively, Sports Illustrated reported. The last season witnessed standout performances across multiple leagues, but this time too, the top European leagues have dominated the nominees list. Last year, Manchester City midfielder Rodri bagged the Men's Ballon d'Or Award, while Aitana Bonmatí of Barcelona won the women's Ballon d'Or honor.
However, Rodri is not among the nominees this year after he faced an ACL injury in September 2024 and remained away from the field for an extended period. Moreover, top players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are notably absent this time.

Paris Saint-Germain To Sign Lille Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier: Source

Last Updated: PSG to sign Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier for €40M, raising questions about Gianluigi Donnarumma's future at the club. European champions Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Lille to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on Friday. Chevalier, 23, will sign a five-year contract and command a fee of around 40 million euros ($46.5 million). He was nominated on Thursday for this year's men's Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or gala, following exceptional performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season. Lille finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Europa League. Chevalier's arrival is likely to raise questions about the future of Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at PSG. It is believed PSG sporting director Luis Campos has given Chevalier certain guarantees about his place in the squad, and the Frenchman's ability with his feet would align more with Luis Enrique's style of play. All of these point to Donnarumma, 26, being relegated to the role of back-up. A position that would be unappealing to Italy's number one, who was named the world's best goalkeeper in April by the CIES Football Observatory. Donnarumma, who was outstanding as PSG won the Champions League for the first time in their history last term, is in the final year of his contract and would likely interest Premier League clubs. Indeed, England seems the most plausible option for Donnarumma, with both Manchester clubs and Chelsea showing interest. Manchester United would appear the likely destination for the former AC Milan shot-stopper after Cameroon's Andre Onana has failed to convince since replacing David de Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford two seasons ago. Which player has scored the most career hat-tricks in football so far?

Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a masterclass in front of goal as he fired a hat-trick to lead Al-Nassr to a commanding 4-0 victory over Portuguese outfit Rio Ave in a pre-season friendly. The veteran forward, now 40, looked sharp and in top form, while new signing João Félix also impressed, linking up brilliantly with Ronaldo to set up one of the goals. However, the spotlight soon shifted to Ronaldo, who stole the show with a sensational hat-trick. His first goal came following a slick one-two with Félix, his fellow Portugal international and the Saudi club's latest high-profile addition. Ronaldo's second strike followed some chaos in the Rio Ave box after Sadio Mané saw his penalty saved by Cezary Miszta. The ball fell kindly for Al-Nassr, and Ronaldo rose high to head in Wesley's pinpoint cross. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute, confidently converting from the spot before being substituted to a warm reception. His performance not only thrilled the crowd but also sent a clear message that he's still a force to be reckoned with, even in the twilight of his career.
