‘Peacemaker' Came to Comic-Con to Tease the End of Its Own Universe
Simply put—as soon as you walk in past the HBO Max activation marquee for the Peacemaker 'Peacefest' in the Gaslamp District, you see a sign that reads, 'Relax, it's a state of emergency; you're fucked', dude.'
io9 was invited to scope out the space, which allowed for some rocking fun as you walk in through a Quantum Portal into the 'altered dimension' of the Peacemaker universe. Hmm, we suspect Lex Luthor's pocket dimension, and that crack Clark and Mr. Terrific noticed at the end of Superman, might have something to do with this.
The timed experience gives you a chance to look at some of the props for the series, which returns August 21 on HBO Max. One of the major things we noticed right away was the giant Mighty Crabjoys poster adorning one of Peacemaker's helmet walls, so we at least get the sense that Superman might not be the only person in their fan club. Which really, lucky for Peacemaker, in case he needs help from Big Red whenever Rick Flagg Sr. finally gets around to revenge.
Peacefest also invited con attendees to get their rock show on to the show's theme song with a live band, while stations offered the usual photo-ops, drinks, and some Mortal Kombat stations to celebrate Peacemaker's addition to the roster for Mortal Kombat 1. One of the signs our Peacemaker friends might be in danger was also literally this TV under a 'Lost and Found' sign with an arrow pointing to the show playing on a real fuzzy and deteriorating VHS tape.
It was, however, the closing song that gave way to some really distressing spoiler-ish answers. As the show ended, the band left, but Peacemaker sent a message to GTFO while another flashed across his face: 'Warning: Alternate Dimension Collapsing.' We know season 2 is going to be dealing with bridging the gap between the old DCU and DC Studios' post-Superman, canon, but this makes it feel like stakes are going to be very dire as Peacemaker tries to make it over to the new normal in one piece… especially as we know there's going to be some Peacemaker vs. Peacemaker shenanigans as well. We'll find out more at the San Diego Comic-Con panel later this week!

'The Batman' Sequel Receives Major Update That Leaves Fans Buzzing
'The Batman' Sequel Receives Major Update That Leaves Fans Buzzing originally appeared on Parade. It's been roughly three years since audiences last saw Robert Pattinson soar across the big screen as Gotham City's resident protector in 2022's The Batman. Earning all-around rave reviews from fans and critics alike, many have wondered when exactly the long-awaited Batman sequel will finally see the light of day, leading to all kinds of rumors and speculation in the years since its release. Fortunately, The Batman Part II has just received a massive new update from DC Studios, with the company officially setting a filming date for the Robert Pattinson-led superhero epic. In a letter to Warner Bros. Discovery's shareholders, WBD CEO David Zaslav confirmed that The Batman Part II will begin filming this coming spring, aiming for a scheduled release date of October 1, 2027. Looking over the array of projects slated to enter production at DC Studios, Zaslav gave shareholders a glimpse at several upcoming movies and TV series currently in development at Marvel's foremost creative rival. 'In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Clayface (2026) and the next Wonder Woman," Zaslav said. "In addition, The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development." In addition to listing some of the company's newest superhero movies on the horizon, Zaslav also addressed the latest television content in development at DC, including the second season of HBO Max's John Cena-led Peacemaker and the Green Lantern spin-off series, Lanterns, later next year. "The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, the upcoming new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of 'Lanterns' in 2026," Zaslav said. "In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio's broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social," the executive continued. Infamously thin-skinned president takes South Park's bait
Aw, Comedy Central hurt the president's feelings. South Park unsurprisingly returned from its feud with Paramount to gleefully stir up more trouble, with an entire episode dedicated to dunking on its parent company and roasting President Donald Trump. Also unsurprisingly, the Trump administration did not take these digs well. 'The President is seething over the childish attack by South Park,' a source told Deadline, which reports that both Paramount and the White House knew about the content of the episode in advance of it airing. That helpful heads-up gave the admin time to craft this characteristically whiny response: 'The Left's hypocrisy truly has no end—for years they have come after South Park for what they labeled as 'offense' [sic] content, but suddenly they are praising the show. Just like the creators of South Park, the Left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to hit record lows,' White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a statement to the outlet. 'This show hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country's history—and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump's hot streak.' Whether or not South Park was relevant before, Paramount's nervous attempts to appease the president ahead of its merger with Skydance presented Trey Parker and Matt Stone with the perfect opportunity to wreak havoc. Already provoked by a reportedly acrimonious contract negotiation, the writers came out swinging. Whether fans were curious to see what the series would make of the current political moment or wanted to see how it would respond to Paramount's provocations, the episode was undeniably relevant, only more so now that the White House has deigned to comment on it. The latest statement comes just a day after the admin ominously suggested The View might be the next show to be pulled off the air. Having name-dropped Stephen Colbert's firing specifically, South Park seems to be daring Paramount or the president to make a move. More from A.V.
