None of Arizona Cardinals' rookie free agents projected to earn roster spot

USA Today12-05-2025
None of Arizona Cardinals' rookie free agents projected to earn roster spot The Cardinals signed six rookie free agents. Draft Wire does not project any of them to make the 53-man roster.
The Arizona Cardinals have had success with rookie free agents coming in and making the team. Last year, receiver Xaver Weaver made the team. In 2023, it was running back Emari Demercado. In other seasons, guys like Tony Jefferson, Trent Sherfield, Zeke Turner and Dennis Gardeck have started successful NFL careers as undrafted rookies.
The Cardinals signed six rookie free agents this year after the draft.
Could any of them make the 53-man roster?
Draft Wire's Curt Popejoy projected which rookie free agents around the league could make their teams' rosters.
Of the 11 players listed, none were on the Cardinals.
This year's undrafted rookies for the Cardinals will have a tough time cracking the roster. They signed three offensive linemen, a defensive lineman, a receiver and a tight end.
The defensive line room is already loaded and they will likely have to trade or cut a player who could start somewhere. The offensive linemen they signed will have a tough time making the roster, especially since they ar tackles. The Cardinals already have two backup tackles in Kelvin Beachum and Christian Jones, although perhaps one of them could beat out Jones potentially. Could Bryson Green crack the receiver room or Oscar Cardenas earn the fourth tight end role? Possibly, but we will have to see.

Chiefs place Felix Anudike-Uzomah on injured reserve, ending the 2023 first-round pick's season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah on injured reserve Monday, ending the season for the 2023 first-round pick, who has struggled to live up to expectations following a standout career at Kansas State. The Chiefs also waived running back Elijah Young and signed defensive end Owen Carney and linebacker Xander Mueller. Anudike-Uzomah came out of high school in the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and he was a popular pick when the Chiefs selected him 32nd overall in a draft they hosted in 2023. But he has just three sacks and eight tackles for loss over 34 games his first two seasons in the league, and now he will miss the upcoming season altogether. 'That's a tough thing,' Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. 'I mean, he's worked hard. We'll see where it goes. I can't tell you how long it's going to be. It's disappointing for him because he's worked so stinking hard.' Anudike-Uzomah had been buried on the depth chart behind starting defensive ends George Karlaftis and Mike Danna, veteran pass rusher Charles Omenihu and Ashton Gillotte, a third-round pick out of Louisville in April's draft. The Chiefs returned to their practice facility Monday following a preseason loss in Seattle last Friday night. Among those missing the workout were defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (ankle), defensive backs Mike Edwards (hamstring) and Nazeeh Johnson (shoulder), linebacker Jack Cochrane (knee) and wide receiver Jalen Royals (knee). In a bit of positive injury news, Marquise Brown returned to the field Monday after dealing with an ankle that has sidelined him for much of training camp. Brown has sat out both of the Chiefs' preseason games, and Reid declined to say whether he would be on the field for their final exhibition game against the Bears on Friday night. Kansas City opens the regular season against the Chargers on Sept. 5 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 'Hollywood (Brown) did a little work yesterday, which was good. He'll get a little more today and then we'll see,' Reid said. 'We'll see how he progresses through this thing. But it's not a matter of wanting to be out there. He wants to do it. We're just taking it slow. We don't want any setbacks with this going forward here.' ___ AP NFL:

Dolphins host 3 offensive linemen for tryouts

The Miami Dolphins hosted three offensive linemen for tryouts Monday, according to the NFL's daily transaction report. Undrafted rookies Elijah Ellis and Ozzie Hutchinson, along with third-year guard Mason Taylor spent the day in Miami. Ellis and Hutchinson joined the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens earlier this year after they weren't picked in the 2025 NFL draft, but both were waived in training camp. Taylor, 25, spent his rookie year with the Washington Commanders and had stints on the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts practice squads in 2024. Earlier this year he played for the UFL's DC Defenders. The Dolphins are dealing with a few injuries along the offensive line with starting right tackle Austin Jackson currently sidelined along with backups Liam Eichenberg and Andrew Meyer. While head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday that he remains convinced Jackson will be ready for Week 1, depth is thin behind the starting group. Miami also reportedly brought in four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon on a visit with the intention of adding him to the roster, although he didn't appear on the transaction wire.

Bengals vs Commanders: live updates: Predictions, how to watch

The Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders went head-to-head on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" in Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, with Washington earning a 38-33 victory over Cincinnati. The Bengals will look to get a measure of revenge against the Commanders as the two square off in a preseason "MNF" battle. Cincinnati is planning to play its starters for at least part of the game against Washington. Coach Zac Taylor outlined the Bengals' plan to do this as the team looks to buck its recent trend of slow starts to the regular season. While Joe Burrow and Co. will be in action for preseason Week 2, the Commanders aren't expected to play Jayden Daniels. It isn't clear how many of their starters will be sitting, but Washington fans will still have plenty to look forward in the game, as rookies Josh Conerly Jr. and Jacory Croskey-Merritt look to prove they deserve sizable roles in the team's offense this season.
