Strictly star Alex Kingston's heartbreak before finding love with TV presenter
The Doctor Who actress has been announced as one of the stars taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2025.
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Alex Kingston endured a turbulent romantic history before discovering happiness with her current husband.
The Doctor Who star, 62, has joined the upcoming series of the popular BBC dancing show as she gets ready to showcase her moves on the ballroom floor.
She won over Doctor Who enthusiasts after securing the part of River Song, with her character featuring during David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi's tenures on the science fiction programme.
Her television work has included appearances in American medical series ER, costume dramas The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Arrow and A Discovery of Witches.

Alex has been open about her enthusiasm for Strictly, revealing in 2019: "Sarah Hadland and I talked about how much we'd like to do Strictly Come Dancing. Then I discovered she's a trained ballet dancer. 'Hang on a minute! That's not fair!' So, I can't do it on a season when she is on it!"
Beyond her screen work, Alex has experienced considerable romantic disappointment. She first met Oscar-nominated performer Ralph Fiennes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983.
The pair married ten years later, though their relationship ended catastrophically when Ralph became involved with a woman 18 years his senior.
Alex previously reflected: "We were like strangers – very fragile," reports the Mirror.
"His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course."

In 1995, Ralph starred in Hamlet at Hackney Empire opposite Francesca Annis-who played Gertrude, his character's mother.
Despite the age gap, their affair led to him leaving Alex and confessing his love for Francesca.
Ralph, aged 32 at the time, embarked on a romance with Francesca, then 50.
Francesca, who has three kids with photographer Patrick Wiseman, reportedly left him for the actor.
Alex revealed the depth of her emotional struggle post-divorce to the Daily Mail, saying: "I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband, which is ridiculous, but I had so little self-esteem.
"Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now."

Ralph and Francesca dated for 10 years between 1997 and 2006 and hit back at age gap concerns.
"Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it," she once said.
"Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time."
Their relationship crumbled following explosive claims of infidelity when Romanian singer Corneila Crisan alleged she had conducted a two-year affair with Ralph.

The following day, Ralph and Francesca announced their separation, stating: "Miss Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate."
Ralph's affair had a devastating impact on Alex, who confessed to contemplating suicide.
She later married German writer Florian Haertel and they welcomed a daughter, Salome, in 2001.
However, the couple separated in 2009 and finalised their divorce four years later. Fortunately, Alex has found love again and is now married to TV presenter Jonathan Stamp, with the couple tying the knot in Italy in 2015.

The estate is known for its private hospitality and previously hosted Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and family while filming for World War Z which took place in Glasgow in August 2011. Police Scotland have said that they are planning for a visit from the US Vice President during his holiday in the UK. While in England, Mr Vance took time to meet with Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Kent where bilateral talks were held at Chevening House and the pair engaged in carp fishing. The Vice President's visit takes place just weeks after US President Donald Trump spent five days in Scotland at the end of July. Ruth Langsford addresses being 'in crisis' following breakdown of Eamonn Holmes marriage
Ruth Langsford addressed the notion of being 'in crisis' following the breakdown of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes during Tues Ruth Langsford has addressed the notion of being 'in crisis' following the breakdown of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes. The presenter, who called time on her marriage to her former This Morning co-host in 2024, was back in her usual seat as anchor on Tuesday's edition of Loose Women when she, along with Coleen Nolan, Myleene Klass and Katie Piper discussed the idea of going through a midlife crisis. She said: "There's a point where you are in crisis actually whether you've made the decision to end your marriage or it's been made for you or you've lost your job or you've decided to leave your job. Sometimes you have that moment where you go, 'Oh no, what's happened to me?' Despite this, Ruth, 65, admitted that one can sometimes 'surprise themselves' in the wake of a big life event like a marriage split, even though there can be a lot of 'panic' to begin with, especially when age comes into consideration. She added: "I think you can surprise yourself - you have that moment where you panic panic panic and the age thing comes into it. You think oh no I'm 65 what will I do?" And in quoting the famous song I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, Ruth insisted that the best way to get through something like a split is just to 'deal with it' all head on. She said: "But like the song, do I crumble? Do I lay down and die? Or do I survive? You just have to get up and dust yourself off and whatever that new path is going to be, you have to deal with it." Ruth's comments come just one day amid fresh heartbreak for her, and the former Strictly Come Dancing star recently spoke out about how she manages to balance her hectic television career with caring for her 94-year-old mother Joan, who is battling Alzheimer's. She said: "She wouldn't remember what she's had for her lunch or breakfast, and if I go and see her, when I leave, if you said to her was Ruth here today, she'd say no. But in the moment, she still knows it's me – as soon as she sees me, she says 'Oh, what a lovely surprise!' like she hasn't seen me for months. "It's very difficult, but I'm much more well-versed in this with my mum, because of my dad. We as a family had no idea about Alzheimer's or dementia when he got it, and we were a bit lost. I learned a lot of lessons with my dad." Ruth and Eamonn, who have 23-year-old son Jack together, have been relatively quiet about the ins and outs of their private life since the split happened, but Eamonn recently told his social media followers that Maggie will feature in the Times this week. He wrote: "So much interest and Love for Maggie following yesterday's post to the extent that she is going to star in @thetimes on line from tomorrow and this week's Sunday Times." The GB News host, who has experience health issues in recent years but has been spotted out and about with new girlfriend Katie Alexander, went on to say that his ex does "all the hard stuff" with Maggie. He said: "Ruth does all the hard stuff with her because of my Wheelchair restrictions but working hard to hopefully get better soon and adopt another #Rescue #Dog like we did from @dogstrust all those years ago!" The presenter added: "Maggie changed my life and she was making me very happy in The Sunshine today. In many ways she reminds me of my dearly departed Mum - a really bad knee and hardly any teeth left but not bad for a 17 year old!" Eamonn, who is a patron of rescue group K-9 Angels, concluded: "Please try to Adopt and Not Shop if u can. from organisations like @thek9angels and @dogstrust Enjoy the Sunshine but please be aware of your dog in a car and it's little feet on hot pavements. Bye from Maggie and Me."
