Windsor police charge arson suspect in Walkerville fires
The Windsor Police Service on Wednesday said a 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with two fires earlier this month at the home in the 1100 block of Pierre Avenue.
Officers and firefighters responded to the first fire at around 1 a.m. on June 12, police said in the statement.
"Windsor Fire and Rescue Services brought the blaze under control," police said. "Investigators later determined the fire had been deliberately ignited in a second-floor sunroom."
Then, four days later, police and fire crews responded to another call at the same residence. "This time, the blaze originated beneath a staircase and spread to the garage," police said. "Investigators once again concluded the fire had been intentionally set."
At the time, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services said the blaze had caused $100,00 in damage.
"No physical injuries were reported in either incident, though the property sustained significant damage," police said Wednesday.
The suspect turned himself in on June 25, police said. He faces breaking and entering and arson charges, as well as failure to comply with a probation order, among other charges.

Body recovered from Spanish River identified as missing Webbwood man

Man arrested in connection with targeted Westman shooting that left woman dead, man injured
A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting in western Manitoba that left one woman dead and a man in serious condition, late last month. Frank La Forge has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting on July 28 in his home community of Keeseekoowenin First Nation, Man., according to an RCMP news release on Tuesday. At about 2:45 a.m. that day, RCMP responded to reports of a shooting at a home in Keeseekoowenin, about 240 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg. They found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency crews and Mounties provided care at the scene but the woman died of her injuries. The 26-year-old man was transported by STARS air ambulance to hospital in serious condition. He has since been released, RCMP said. At the time, they said the incident was targeted, and within about a week they notified the public that La Forge was a suspect. He turned himself in to RCMP in Winnipeg on Monday, according to the news release. He remains in custody.
