UNC Basketball face off against Big 12 school in exhibition game
The crown jewel of North Carolina's 2025 recruiting class is 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, who committed to Hubert Davis' program in January. Lacking height on their roster last year, the Tar Heels snagged a pair of tall, talented post players in Henri Veesaar and Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson.

We also know a little bit about UNC's schedule, with a few non-conference matchups released for this fall. North Carolina will play both St. Bonaventure and Michigan State in the Fort Myers (Fla.) Tip-Off during Thanksgiving Week, travel to Kentucky for the ACC-SEC Challenge on December 2, then travel to Atlanta (Ga.) for a CBS Sports Classic matchup with Ohio State.
On Friday afternoon, the Tar Heels released another teaser for their 2025-2026 schedule: an October 24 exhibition game in Salt Lake City, Utah against the BYU Cougars.
BYU, which is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in March, should be one of the top teams across college basketball this coming season. The Cougars fared well in the transfer portal themselves, but their top roster highlight will be AJ Dybantsa. Ranked the Class of 2025's top recruit, Dybantsa chose BYU over UNC during his recruiting cycle.

This is the second-consecutive season North Carolina will open its season with a high-profile exhibition matchup. The Tar Heels traveled to face the Memphis Tigers on October 15, 2024, a 84-76 victory highlighted by Seth Trimble's 33-point outburst.

UNC football to face SEC program in CBS Sports' first 2025 bowl projections
Which SEC team is UNC projected to face in a bowl game? Can you believe the start of college football is almost here? We'll get underway with Week 0 next weekend, then UNC will host TCU to cap off Week 1 on Labor Day. Bowl games won't be played until December, but it's never too early to start making projections. Due to North Carolina's somewhat favorable schedule, North Carolina is slated to play in a bowl game. In CBS Sports' first bowl projections ahead of the 2025 CFB season, the Tar Heels are projected to face Florida in the Gator Bowl. This would essentially be a road game for UNC, as the Gator Bowl is always played in Jacksonville's Everbank Stadium, which is just 90 minutes from UF. North Carolina has six-consecutive bowl appearances, but a horrible track record in those postseason contests, last winning a bowl game in 2019 against Temple. Bill Belichick is a much-better head coach than Mack Brown, though, so the hope is he'll have his players prepared. Given their young roster, the Tar Heels also shouldn't have many opt-outs after their regular-season concludes. If UNC ends up playing in the Gator Bowl, it'd be UNC's second trip to the Sunshine State this season. North Carolina travels to UCF on September 20. Florida is in a similar spot to that of the Tar Heels. 2024 was the Gators' first winning season since 2020, which ended in the rankings and a Cotton Bowl loss. Last year, Florida went 8-5 and beat Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl, its first bowl victory since 2019. Lady Vols soccer defeats No. 1 North Carolina
Tennessee (1-0) kicked off its 2025 soccer season Thursday with a, 2-0, win against No. 1 North Carolina. Rankings reflect the preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Lady Vols recorded their first win over a top-ranked team in program history. Tennessee also won its first game versus the Tar Heels all time. North Carolina leads the all-time soccer series against the Lady Vols, 12-1-1, dating to Sept. 5, 1997. Shae O'Rourke scored two goals for the Lady Vols against North Carolina. She scored in the 57th and 76th minutes. The Tar Heels led Tennessee, 14-7, in shots. North Carolina also led the Lady Vols in corner kicks, 6-3. Tennessee will next play Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium. The Lady Vols will host Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+.
