4 Maoists killed in Saturday's Bijapur encounter identified: Chhattisgarh Police
The deceased included three area committee members (ACMs), each carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh, and one lower party cadre with a ₹2 lakh reward.
The encounter took place on Saturday evening in the dense forests along the Basaguda and Gangaloor police station border, following a search operation launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) based on intelligence input about Maoist presence.
According to Bijapur superintendent of police (SP), Jitendra Yadav, there was a prolonged exchange of fire between the Maoists and the DRG team, after which the bodies and a large cache of arms were recovered from the site.
'The deceased have been identified as Hunga, ACM of Platoon Number 10; Lakkhe, ACM of Platoon Number. 30; Bhime, an ACM; and Nihal alias Rahul, a party member who served as the guard of the Bureau Communication Team head. All were part of the banned CPI (Maoist)'s South Sub-Zonal Bureau and had a combined reward of ₹17 lakh announced by the state government,' the SP said.
Police said that the security personnel recovered an SLR rifle with three magazines and 15 live rounds, an INSAS rifle with three magazines and 40 rounds, a .303 rifle with one magazine and 16 rounds, a BGL launcher with three shells, a single-shot .315 bore rifle, a 12-bore gun with 12 live cartridges, eight AK-47 rounds, three small BGL shells, one grenade, and various Maoist-related and daily-use items.
Inspector general of police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said this operation is part of a sustained offensive against Maoist groups in Bastar.
Since January 2024, 425 hardcore Maoists have been killed in the region.

Jaipur: In an act of violence over a failed relationship, a 40-year-old labour inspector was fatally shot by a police constable outside his residence in Bagru town near Jaipur early Tuesday morning. The victim, Shankar Lal Balai, was on his morning walk in Vatika Infotech City township when he was ambushed allegedly by Ajay Katariya, 32, a constable with the 12th Battalion of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC). Katariya, who was posted in Delhi, used his service self-loading rifle (SLR) to carry out the attack, police said. Balai, who had moved to Vatika City in 2018, is survived by his wife and two children. His elder brother serves in the CRPF. Sawnwar Mal, another relative, also claimed that Balai had been receiving threats from both Pooran and Katariya for a long time. "We even heard of a conspiracy — someone, acting at Pooran's behest, had agreed to harm Balai for a large sum of money," said another relative, claiming that police were aware of the dispute between Balai and Pooran. The family staged a protest outside Bagru Community Health Centre in the evening, demanding that Pooran and three others be booked for conspiracy and abetment to murder. The police assured them that all the accused, if found guilty, will be arrested. After the assurance the family agreed for the post-mortem.

Elgar Parishad case: Court junks Navlakhas plea seeking to live in Delhi
Mumbai, Aug 5 (PTI) A special NIA court here has refused permission to activist Gautam Navlakha, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, to live in Delhi for a brief period while rebuking him for seeking the same relief repeatedly. In the order passed on August 1, judge C S Baviskar said Navlakha, ordered to stay in Mumbai as part of his bail condition, had ingeniously found the trick to file multiple applications seeking same reliefs. The order copy became available on Tuesday. In November 2024, the special court for National Investigation Agency cases had granted him permission to stay in Delhi for two months. In his latest application, Navlakha relied on this order while seeking permission to live in Delhi again for 45 days. 'It is not at all expected. I recapitulate, the thing you shall not do directly, cannot do even indirectly," the court said in the order. While rejecting the application, it was restraining itself from imposing cost on Navlakha, it added. The earlier permission to live in Delhi for two months did not give him the license to claim the same liberty repeatedly, the court said. The Bombay High Court, while granting Navlakha bail, had laid down that he shall remain in Mumbai considering the seriousness of the offences in this case, the special court said. 'The applicant/accused may show total disregard towards the expectations of the High Court in its order that he should reside within the territorial jurisdiction of the Court. However, the directions of the High Court are happily binding on this Court and this Court has to follow it scrupulously," the order said. Navlakha (72), a permanent resident of Delhi, was arrested in the case in April 2020. He was granted bail in 2024. The case relates to alleged inflammatory speeches made at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017, which police claimed triggered violence the next day near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial near Pune. CPI(M) condemns police clampdown, arrests in Karedu village
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Committee has strongly condemned the 'forcible and illegal attempt' by the government to acquire land from farmers in Karedu village, Nellore district, for the IndoSol company. In a statement on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), CPI(M) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao accused the government of creating fear and confusion among villagers to extract land consent by coercion, despite local farmers' resistance. The revenue officials had reportedly entered the village and started collecting Aadhaar numbers, land documents, and passbooks from each household. When villagers refused to comply, they were allegedly intimidated. During the standoff, leaders of the Rythu Sangham and Agricultural Workers' Union, including Kumar, Pullayya, and G. Venkateswarlu, were arrested and taken to Ulavapadu police station, according to CPI(M). The CPI(M) leader alleged that Section 30 of the Police Act was imposed across the entire Ulavapadu Mandal, and police posts were set up surrounding Karedu village, effectively placing the village under siege. 'False cases are being filed against farmer leaders. People are being prevented from holding meetings. All of this is part of a plan to illegally seize land by instilling fear,' he alleged. CPI(M) demanded immediate withdrawal of the police siege, release of the arrested farmer and union leaders, respect for the Gram Sabha resolution opposing land acquisition, and withdrawal of the land acquisition notification for the IndoSol project. He said the public resistance would be intensified if these demands are not met and called the current actions unconstitutional and undemocratic.
