The new sports policy, christened the Khelo Bharat Niti, could not have been better timed. Hon'ble Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
's vision to transform India into healthy and sporty nation by 2047 is fundamental to becoming a global powerhouse.
Implemented in totality, the 360-degree approach of Khelo Bharat Niti and its collaborative model can make India a force to reckon with.
The definition of sports has changed. 'Olympism' is at the heart of sports. It is not about winning medals alone. It is about enhancing awareness, understanding your health, uplifting your body and mind to achieve excellence. Khelo Bharat Niti attempts to ride sports for social development and make it a people's movement.
I must mention how PM Modi's Fit India movement is making a significant impact regardless of age and gender.

One unique aspect of PM Modi's vision is that it is conservative in approach. No big talk and it does not sell dreams. The government attempts to channelize youthfulness into by-products that will help build a Viksit Bharat. Development model which cannot be weighed in terms of winning medals at the global competitions alone.

How important is the alignment of sports policy with the National Education Policy for young athletes?
Very important
Somewhat important
Not important
One needs to set a process to achieve results and when we think of the several government initiatives like Khelo India, Target Olympic Podium Scheme etc., that process is already in place. Only some fine tuning, adjustments, a consolidated and positive approach among stakeholders are needed.
One major aspect of the new sports policy is its alignment with the National Education Policy. I have personally felt the impact of sports at the school level.
Before I excelled at the state, national and international arenas, I was first a school games champion. My roots were strong because I was honing my strengths from my school days.
Additionally, block-level sports infrastructure will be developed to ensure that even the most rural or remote areas have access to facilities, fostering inclusivity and engagement. If this happens, we will have an infra pyramid and a well-oiled feeder line that can benefit the country in the long run.

As Indian Olympic Association president, it gives me great hope that Khelo Bharat Niti will pave the way for Indian athletes to make a mark at the 2036 Olympics. We have bid for the Games and still have 11 years to prepare. It takes anything between eight to 12 years to develop into a potential Olympic medallist. If Khelo Bharat Niti is implemented in letter and spirit, we can see golden days ahead.
Talking of the ecosystem, while athletes and their coaches remain our biggest priority, administrators have to play their roles as well.
The sports policy attempts at complete transparency in governance and an effective process that is gender neutral, sustainable, impartial and believes in fair play.
We can achieve great results if the ecosystem is seamless and we constantly find solutions to issues we face. Corporates need to look at the bigger picture and their main objective should be the welfare of athletes, nothing else.
Every successful nation at the Olympics not only showcases great athletes but a unified Olympic committee that prides itself in meeting the objectives to attain excellence on and off the pitch.
Khelo Bharat Niti will help reach the desired solidarity among National Sports Federations which make key decisions to make athletes shine. It is important that everyone is on the same page and there is a solution for every problem.
Consolidation of ideas, opportunity at every age level, development of infrastructure and multiple platforms to express one's skills are fundamental to sporting development and the new sports policy is therefore a perfect roadmap to enhance the culture of sports in India.

Exclusive: Neeraj Chopra Says Haryana Was 1st Choice For NC Classic. But...

India's Golden Boy, Neeraj Chopra, is understandably excited as the Neeraj Chopra gears up for The NC Classic javelin throw event on Saturday, the excitement is understandably buzzing. The NC Classic was earlier supposed to be held in Panchkula (Haryana) on May 24 but was shifted to Bengaluru due to inadequate lighting required for international broadcasters. The event had to be postponed due to the India-Pakistan conflict on the border after the Pahalgam attack. In an exclusive chat with NDTV, Neeraj thanked the Karnataka government for helping him make the event possible. Speaking to NDTV, Neeraj said that he is extremely happy that the event could finally become a reality, after it had to be postponed earlier. "First of all, I am happy that this is happening. Didn't expect that so much will happen in such a short time. The Karnataka government helped a lot, the Indian government helped a lot, AFI, World Athletics, everyone helped a lot. The JSW team is also doing great work. The fact that this event is happening, is a big thing for me. The athletes are loving it. I was doubtful about what they would feel, but they are happy," Neeraj said. Neeraj admitted that Haryana was the first preference for the event, but he couldn't go ahead in his native state because of a lack of required infrastructure. As far as Bengaluru is concerned, he said that even travel arrangements were easier to plan in the city. "I am from Haryana, a lot of people wanted to see the event, but there were some issues with regards to lights and a few other things. We decided that Bengaluru would be the right place. Weather conditions and other factors helped in making the decision. There was a lot of support, the travel plan favoured the athletes as well," he said. While it's the inaugural edition of the NC Classic, Neeraj hopes that he will be able to inspire more children, get the governments and other bodies to support such sporting events even more in the future. "Event is one thing, but it's about creating an impact. The government should include itself more, kids should get inspired. We need a lot more support from everyone. "I have trained in Bengaluru, and people give a lot of support," he concluded.

India vs England Tests: As Shubman Gill misses triple century, his father's words from 2021 go viral

Indian cricket captain scored 269 runs at Edgbaston, leading India to a strong position of 587 on Day 2, but missed out on a potential triple century after being caught by Ollie Pope off Josh Tongue's bowling. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Despite Gill's impressive performance, his father found areas for improvement while expressing pride in his son's achievement through a video message. "Shubman beta, well played. Watching your batting today was a lot of fun and gave me immense satisfaction. Your innings reminded me of the way you used to play as a child—like during your U16 and U19 days. I felt very proud," said Lakhwinder Singh on BCCI TV Gill, who attributes his cricket career to his father's influence, responded to the message with deep appreciation. India vs England 2nd Test: Shubman Gill's 269, Ravindra Jadeja's class light up Edgbaston "Growing up, I played almost all my cricket for my dad. It was because of him that I even started playing cricket. Though he also reminded me that I missed my triple century - hopefully, we can finish this match on a great note," Gill said. Virender Sehwag on Instagram This reaction from Gill's father echoes a similar instance from over four years ago during India's victory against Australia in the 4th Brisbane Test. In that match, Gill scored 91 runs as India secured victory with Pant hitting the winning runs, triggering celebrations at Gill's housing society in Mohali. However, his father Lakhwinder Gill expressed disappointment about the missed century opportunity back then. Poll Do you think Shubman Gill will achieve a triple century in the future? Yes, definitely No, it's unlikely "A century would have been good for his confidence. He was batting so well, and I don't know why all of a sudden, he played away from his body," he had told TOI in 2021. The father's consistent push for excellence has been a recurring theme in Gill's cricket journey, from his early days to his current position as India's captain.
