Not Ishan Kishan, BCCI eyes Ranji trophy standout as ideal replacement for Rishabh Pant in England: Report
With Rishabh Pant virtually ruled out of the fifth Test for the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy at The Oval owing to a toe fracture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is looking forward to bringing a capable replacement on board. The board is navigating through options, and as per striking reports, they have zeroed in on a name.
According to Cricbuzz, BCCI have identified Tamil Nadu cricketer N Jagadeesan as the ideal replacement for the injured Pant, and an announcement regarding the same is expected to come out soon. Earlier, the reports of Ishan Kishan being the potential alternate made waves, but it turns out the Jharkhand cricketer is not available. Thus, they moved to the next best option.

Jagdeesan's performance brought him into the scheme of things
Jagadeesan may have come into the fray based on his stellar domestic performance, particularly in red-ball cricket. In 52 First-Class matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 3,373 runs at a fine average of 47.50. He has 14 half-centuries and 10 centuries to his name in the domestic circuit.
He emerged as a standout player in the last Ranji season, where he amassed 674 runs in eight matches at a brilliant average of 56.16, notching two hundreds and five fifties in the process. He ended up being the leading run-scorer for his state in the competition.
Ideally, the selectors would have explored the A side that toured England ahead of the senior team, but with limited options available – Kishan injured and Dhruv Jurel already a part of the squad – they had to look elsewhere.
The selectors had the option to pick KS Bharat, another keeper-batter, who is currently playing in England for Dulwich CC. Bharat has even played a Test in England but was not considered for the role.
With Rishabh Pant injured, Jurel will carry out the wicketkeeping duties in the . India also have the option to hand over the keeping duties to KL Rahul, who has kept wickets in international games, including in the World Cup and Champions Trophy.

Women's EURO 2025: Lauren James' return boosts England ahead of final against Spain
England forward Lauren James has recovered from injury in time for the final of the Women's European Championship against World Cup winner Spain on Sunday. James had to come off at halftime in England's semifinal victory over Italy on Tuesday with an ankle problem and was seen applying ice to her injury during the match. However, the Chelsea player trained on Saturday with the rest of the Lionesses. 'We had 23 players on the pitch today and everyone came through,' England coach Sarina Wiegman said on the eve of the final. I think we have many players that can impact, and we know that she can have an impact too, so that'd be nice,' she added. James was a major doubt even before the tournament after a hamstring injury ended her season in April. But the 23-year-old has started all five of England's games at Euro 2025 and has been a continuous threat. James scored twice in the 4-0 win over the Netherlands in the second group-stage match. 'I think we have a team of talented players,' England captain Leah Williamson said. 'Lauren brings something slightly obviously having that available is a best-case scenario for us.' England is the defending champion but lost to Spain in the World Cup final in 2023.

Outrage erupts on social media as India set to face Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025
India vs Pakistan. (PIC - X) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing massive backlash online after the Asia Cup 2025 schedule revealed that India is set to face Pakistan on September 14 in the UAE. The announcement came just days after a highly sensitive episode involving the India Champions team, which had withdrawn from a scheduled clash against Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends. The move was a mark of protest following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed several innocent lives. Cricket fans were shocked and angered to see India listed to play against Pakistan in an official tournament so soon. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, many of them targeting the BCCI for what users described as an 'insensitive' decision. The hashtag #BoycottAsiaCup began trending, with users demanding the Indian cricket board reconsider its participation in the match. Several users on X (formerly Twitter) accused the BCCI of prioritizing commercial interests over national sentiment, questioning why a game against Pakistan was even considered under the current circumstances. 'This isn't just cricket. It's about standing up for our people,' one user wrote. The controversy has reignited the long-standing debate around sporting ties between India and Pakistan amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. While some argue that sports should remain independent of politics, a large section of Indian fans appear unified in their call for a boycott. With less than two months left for the marquee encounter, the pressure is mounting for Indian cricket authorities to take a clear stand.
