Are you a nuts-and-bolts, blue chip investor, interested only in the fundamental metrics of established companies that you can see and feel? Or, are you more of a risk taker, ready to buy into startup visions of grandeur?
Both mindsets find fertile ground in Tesla – one reason the stock elicits such a wide range of emotions. And in 2025, the tug-of-war between the two narratives has been unfolding in real time.
For instance, CEO Elon Musk's falling popularity earlier this year weighed heavily on global EV sales, sending the stock lower in the first half. Yet, the mood has shifted in recent months, as investors refocus on Musk's ambitions in self-driving, AI, and robotics – areas many believe could be Tesla's next trillion-dollar growth engine.
That belief is shared by top investor James Foord, who is ready to take the plunge in what he calls a 'trillion-dollar startup.'
'Tesla is no longer just an EV company – it's an AI & robotics startup in disguise,' says the 5-star investor, who is among the top 2% of TipRanks' stock pros.
Foord isn't blind to the near-term challenges, from tariff concerns to the loss of the $7,500 consumer tax credit, which have pressured operating margins. But the investor argues that the real story lies in the opportunities highlighted in Tesla's Q2 2025 earnings.
'The really important news is this: Tesla rolled out robotaxi operations in Austin, posted record profits in its energy division, (and is) targeting a massive rollout of its Optimus 3 over the coming years,' Foord asserts.
In Foord's view, each of these segments holds billion-dollar potential. Energy remains Tesla's 'most overlooked business,' now delivering record profits. The Cybercab project could redefine ridesharing, taxis, and even personal car ownership. And with plans to produce 1 million Optimus 3 humanoid robots in the next five years, Tesla is reaching for an entirely new frontier. Even if some of these goals fall short, Foord believes the upside justifies the gamble.
'Elon shoots for the moon, and while he often misses, he still lands somewhere no one has been before. Tesla is a wild card, but it's a bet worth taking,' concludes Foord, who rates TSLA shares a Buy. (To watch James Foord's track record, click here)
Of course, not everyone shares Foord's enthusiasm. Wall Street's view on TSLA remains sharply divided, with 13 Buys, 15 Holds, and 8 Sells, giving the stock a consensus Hold (i.e., Neutral) rating. The 12-month average price target of $305.37 suggests ~7% downside from current levels (See TSLA stock forecast).

5 tech stocks you can buy and hold for the next decade

AI, robotics, and self-driving vehicles? These companies could win big as emerging trends play out over the next 10 years. Think about how different the world was just 10 years ago. Some of the things we take for granted today — artificial intelligence chatbots, food and grocery delivery apps, and more — weren't around, or were only starting to gain steam in 2015. The world will continue to change, and technology will play a big part in that. By 2035, once again, some of today's newest innovations will become normal. Long-term investing is about having an open mind and staying optimistic about innovation and progress. The good news is that you don't need to go too far outside the box to find winning stocks that will likely help shape the future. That's because some of them have been doing just that for the past decade or two. Here are five technology stocks you can buy and hold for the next decade. 1. Nvidia Given the role that artificial intelligence (AI) will likely play in the future, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) might be a no-brainer. The company's accelerator chips have become the runaway leader used to train and operate AI software on data center clusters, amassing a market share that researchers peg as high as 92%. The companies building out data centers to support AI demand could spend upwards of $7 trillion on this over the next five years. Nvidia's two AI chip architectures, Hopper and Blackwell, have been smashing hits, and the continuous push for computing power and efficiency to support more intelligent AI makes it likely these companies will want to get their hands on Nvidia's upcoming AI chips. Despite the stock's success, shares are still reasonably valued, making Nvidia a solid buy right now. 2. Alphabet Google's search engine dominance helped Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL) become a trillion-dollar behemoth. But the company is much more than that, with far-reaching influence across the technology sector that includes mobile phones, software, cloud computing, and self-driving vehicles. Even as some fear that AI may disrupt Google's golden goose, its digital advertising business, it's also a tremendous growth opportunity for the company. And if recent earnings results mean anything, Google has yet to show any signs that AI is weighing on the company's performance. Investors should consider Alphabet a well-rounded investment in broader technology innovation. Whatever the top growth stories are over the next decade, deep-pocketed and innovative Alphabet is probably going to at least play a factor in them. 3. Tesla Elon Musk's Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) could be the boom-or-bust stock on this list. Tesla started and rose to popularity in electric vehicles, ultimately becoming a pioneer in the automotive industry. However, the stock has stumbled lately as investors see two sides of the coin here. On the one hand, Tesla's electric vehicle sales have slumped, potentially a result of Musk's political activities and highly public (and sometimes controversial) persona. On the other hand, Tesla is pushing hard into humanoid robotics and self-driving vehicles, potential growth catalysts that some believe could far outweigh the company's upside in its legacy electric vehicle business. Tesla is a volatile stock that investors need conviction to hold, but the company's ceiling is high if it realizes its AI and robotics potential over the next decade. Investors have done well betting on Musk thus far; Tesla has outperformed the market over its lifetime. 4. Microsoft Even though Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has been around for decades, it remains a leader in tech innovation. Many of its legacy products, like its Windows operating system software, remain very relevant today, but the company continually expands and acquires its way to growth. Today, Microsoft is deep into AI, cloud computing, enterprise and consumer software, gaming, and more. Like Alphabet, Microsoft has a lower ceiling due to its sheer size, but it is bound to play a role in shaping the world moving forward. Investing in Microsoft also gets you peace of mind. It pays a dividend and has increased it for 23 consecutive years. Plus, the company has a higher credit rating than the U.S. government. Microsoft is genuinely a do-it-all stock that can be an excellent buy-and-hold investment you can count on to deliver steady results for the foreseeable future. 5. Meta Platforms Social media giant Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) rounds out this list. The company could have the world's best digital advertising business model. Meta gushes cash profits from the ads it shows to the nearly 3.5 billion people who use its Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Threads apps each day. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is still in his early 40s and is steering the company into the future with a heavy emphasis on AI. The company hopes that it can use AI and innovative hardware, like smart glasses, to break free from its dependence on Apple and Google's smartphone app stores. Based on the company's recent earnings report, Meta Platforms' core advertising business still has plenty of juice left, making it a wise stock to buy and hold as Zuckerberg turns his AI vision into reality over the next 10 years. TipRanks' AI Analyst Stays Neutral on Archer Aviation Stock Ahead of Q2 Earnings

Archer Aviation (ACHR) is scheduled to report for Q2 2025 tomorrow, on August 11. The hype is gradually growing, and expectations are rising. But how does our AI Analyst see Archer's prospects ahead of the company's earnings call? Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Let's explore what it has to say: TipRanks' AI Analyst Take on Archer The bottom line is that TipRanks' AI Analyst keeps its rating at Neutral, with a score of 49, reflecting real progress alongside the financial strain of a company still in its pre-revenue phase. Archer has yet to book sales. Like other eVTOL developers before launch, it runs on financing. In Q1, it logged $144 million in GAAP operating expenses and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $109 million, showing the steep cost of scaling and certification prep. However, the cash position tells a different story. Archer ended Q1 with $1.03 billion on hand, plus $400 million from Stellantis (STLA) and $300 million from an equity raise earlier this year. That liquidity puts it among the best-funded early-stage aerospace names, giving it breathing room to hit key milestones. And milestones are coming thick and fast. Test flights in Abu Dhabi drew UAE regulators and investors, with the Midnight aircraft holding up under extreme heat. Piloted testing is next, though minor delays have been linked to new flight instrumentation. Partnerships add another layer. Archer is working with Anduril on defense aviation and with Palantir (PLTR) on AI-driven aviation software, giving it a path to markets beyond passenger air service. What's the Plan, Stan? Still, the AI Analyst notes risks. Equity dilutes shareholders. Certification, execution, and supply chain issues could push timelines. Competition in the eVTOL space is also heating up, as Joby Aviation (JOBY) is moving rapidly toward commercial flight. The plan now is to scale to two aircraft a month by late 2025, launch in the UAE by year-end, and begin U.S. service in early 2026. For now, the Neutral rating says the opportunity is real but matched by the challenges. Investors will be watching tomorrow's earnings call for signs that Archer can keep momentum without losing altitude. Is Archer Aviation Stock a Good Buy? Despite the stock's speculative nature, Wall Street analysts remain optimistic about the company. Based on six recent ratings, Archer Aviation boasts a 'Moderate Buy' consensus with an average 12-month price target of $11.92. This implies a 22.63% upside from the current price.
