Jenna Ortega And Tim Burton Said This About Wednesday Season 2
The halls of Nevermore Academy are set to light up once again as Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton continue their creative team-up. Based on the character of Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family comics, Netflix's Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, has created significant buzz since the streaming giant announced the spooky mystery comedy's comeback for a second season.
Why Wednesday?
Before the premiere of Wednesday Season 2, director Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed their upcoming projects, the character of Wednesday, and everything in between.
When asked about what made them initially excited about doing the series, Tim Burton replied, 'I've never done television, so it was the idea of exploring something on a longer time frame, and she's an interesting character."
Replying to the question, Jenna Ortega stated, 'She's also one of the few protagonists who can get away with that, aside from villains—who tend not to have emotional growth or depth."
Ortega further mentioned that when she was 14, she auditioned for a Wednesday animated movie but did not get the part and recalled telling her mother, 'That would be cool to be her, though."
About The Character
Before Ortega was cast as Wednesday, Burton had warned the showrunners that if they didn't find Wednesday, there would be no show. Revealing why Burton cast Ortega for this role, he stated, 'Jenna's like a silent movie actor, and what I enjoy about her character is not so much the dialogue but the way she presents herself." Talking about the character, Ortega revealed how specific the character was, right down to not blinking. 'Your eye does start twitching. There were a couple of setups in season one that looked like I was crying because I was trying to keep my eyes open," Ortega added.
Wednesday, Seasons 2 and 3
Season 1 of Wednesday generated 252 million views globally, making the series Netflix's biggest English-language series of all time. After becoming a global phenomenon, Wednesday is all set to be back with another season. Wednesday Season 2 will feature 8 episodes in 2 parts. Part 1 will premiere on August 6, 2025, followed by Part 2 on September 3. Before the premiere of Season 2, a third season of Wednesday has already been confirmed. The early announcement confirms the show's strong popularity and plans.
Other Projects
Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega have also teamed up in Beetlejuice 2. During the interview, Burton was asked about the development of Beetlejuice 3, a horror comedy movie. Both Burton and Ortega claimed no knowledge of the third part of the movie. Although Warner Bros. seems hopeful of Beetlejuice 3, the director and the star are not sure yet.
