Wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade from the Commanders, AP sources say
Both spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the negotiations were private.

Sunday after skipping the first four practices and parts of the offseason program. He remains on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury while contract talks continue.
The Commanders reached the NFC championship game last season under first-year coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. They added wideout Deebo Samuel in the offseason and are aiming to make a run at the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
McLaurin had 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season, earning second-team All-Pro honors.
Several star players have requested trades from their teams due to contract issues over the past few years but ended up staying put — including Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett and 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Samuel asked for a trade from the 49ers a few years ago only to get a new deal in San Francisco. He was traded to Washington this past offseason.

Keenan Allen, the top veteran wide receiver on the free agent market, took a visit with the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday and is interested in a reunion, according to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking to add another playmaker since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. But Allen has already said that he is not interested in coming to Pittsburgh. 'There's two sides to the story. I mean, A-Rod being a quarterback, of course that interests you,' Allen said during a recent TikTok livestream. 'But Pittsburgh? No.' Allen, 33, proved to still have some gas left in the tank last season with the Chicago Bears. In 2024, he caught 70 passes for 744 yards (10.6 average) and seven touchdowns, making him the most productive wide receiver left on the open market. However, Allen is likely looking for a situation that will allow him to compete for a Super Bowl in his 13th NFL season. If he doesn't think the Steelers will give him that opportunity, then they can cross him off their potential list of wide receivers. Allen wasn't willing to completely close the door on signing with Pittsburgh, though. 'But hey, you never know,' Allen said. Allen spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers franchise, posting five 1,000-yard seasons, earning six Pro Bowl nods and winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2017. Allen would be an intriguing option for the Steelers, whose wide receiver room is quite thin after DK Metcalf, with Calvin Austin III, Robert Woods, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Ben Skowronek jockeying for roles at training camp. But Allen has primarily played in the slot for most of his career and the Steelers most need another outside option. The Steelers hosted former Buffalo Bills outside receiver Gabe Davis on a free agent visit, the only outward sign of their interest in adding a wide receiver so far, though they also have reportedly touched base with other teams about trades. New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the first time in 2026, as he has finally made it five years away from his last playing season by then. Not only every Saints fan, but every ball-knowing NFL fan agrees Brees is a first-ballot Hall of Fame lock; there is nothing to discuss when it comes to the topic; he has done everything you could ask from him, and put together an award list that goes on for about two pages on its own. Super Bowl winner, Super Bowl MVP, two-time OPOY, five-time All-Pro, 13-time Pro Bowler, seven-time NFL passing yards leader, four-time NFL passing touchdowns leader, owns three of the top five single-season completion percentages, Saints Hall of Famer, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, most career 5,000 yard seasons, most consecutive games with a touchdown pass, 80,358 passing yards, 571 career passing touchdowns, 67.7% career completion rate, and for those who care, a 172-114 career record with a Saints team that lacked competent defensive play for many years. That is less than a quarter of what he did for New Orleans on the field, never mind off it. The only man above Brees in some of the key career passing statistics is Tom Brady, due to his extra 49 starts, who will also be pretty much the strongest lock for first-ballot Hall of Fame induction when he is eligible. But when it comes to efficiency, effectiveness in all scenarios, and just year-by-year dominance no matter who is surrounding him, Brees takes the cake. One of Brees' longtime teammates and fellow Super Bowl XLIV champion, punter Thomas Morstead, made clear his view of the eligibility for Brees, sharing a simple four-word response when discussing the upcoming 2026 class: That is about as simple as it gets, and anyone who played with or against him would likely have the same response when asked. Brees was lethal in every facet of his game, both in his prime and even towards the back-end of his career. Aaron Glenn gets emotional as the reality of being the Jets' head coach 'hit me pretty hard'
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The reality of the situation finally hit Aaron Glenn. More than seven months after being hired by the New York Jets, the first-time NFL head coach got surprisingly emotional Saturday. And it had nothing to do with the 12 penalties called on his team during practice. 'I'm sure this is going to hit at some point, but I told the players this: The first time since I became head coach, today was the first day it really hit me,' Glenn said to open his post-practice news conference. "And it hit me once I heard the fans give the 'J-E-T-S' chant. 'And I don't know why, but it just hit me.' The 53-year-old Glenn was drafted by the Jets in the first round in 1994 and played for the franchise for eight of his 15 NFL seasons. The three-time Pro Bowl cornerback was also a personnel scout for New York for two seasons and a longtime assistant coach, most recently as Detroit's defensive coordinator for four seasons, before getting the chance to lead his former team. 'It hit me pretty hard,' Glenn said, his voice cracking slightly. "Man, I am so thankful. I'm thankful for this organization that gave me a shot. I'm thankful for this organization that gave me my second shot at becoming a coach. 'I don't know why, fellas. But it hit me and hit me pretty hard, and, man, I just feel grateful. Grateful to be in this position.' Glenn, along with new general manager Darren Mougey, faces the task of turning around the fortunes of a franchise that has the NFL's longest active playoff drought at 14 seasons. He has talked several times since being hired in January about changing the culture around the Jets and building them into a consistent winner by stressing fundamentals and competition. But with the team practicing in front of packed stands for its annual scrimmage at the facility, Glenn couldn't shake his emotions — especially when he heard the fans. 'Yeah, I was,' Glenn said when asked if he was surprised he felt that way. 'I thought it had already hit me.' One thing Glenn has focused on during training camp is cutting down on penalties after the Jets were called for the most in the league in each of the past two seasons. He has officials at every practice to try to get players to understand how plays will be called. But it didn't seem to help much Saturday. The Jets had 12 penalties called on them during what Glenn called a 'pseudo scrimmage,' including several holding calls. 'There are a lot of things we've got to clean up and the one thing I'm sure everybody saw is the penalties,' the coach said. 'I'm glad we had the refs out there because that's one thing we want to hit — we want to make sure we hit those hard. And I want them to ref it just like it was a game and I thought they did a good job of that.' It made for a sloppy practice as Justin Fields and the rest of offense, including the backups, struggled throughout the session. Some calls even had the fans booing. 'There's no excuses,' Glenn said. 'Our players understand that. We know penalties, they're discipline issues and we've got to make sure we are more disciplined in aspects on both sides of the ball. We will get those cleaned up, I promise you that. But there's a lot of work to do.' Injuries Cornerback ace Kris Boyd left the field on a cart after injuring a shoulder during special teams drills. He went down on the sideline and was writhing in pain while he was looked at by trainers. Glenn had no immediate word on his condition. Glenn said wide receiver Xavier Gipson also injured a shoulder on the final play of practice when he tried to catch a pass in the end zone. Safety Jaylin Simpson was sidelined with a hamstring injury. ___
