Mysuru in the ‘Super Swachh League' among clean cities

The Hindu17-07-2025
The city has performed well in the clean city rankings, within the population range of 3 lakh to 10 lakh, announced on Thursday. It made its way to the 'Super Swachh League' which is a newly introduced category under the Swachh Survekshan framework of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U).
The 'Super Swachh League' or SSL includes only those cities that have consistently demonstrated top performance in past Swachh Survekshan editions.
Other cities within the population range of 3 lakh to 10 lakh (as per 2011 census) that are included under SSL cities are Chandigarh, Noida, Ujjain, Gandhinagar, and Guntur.
Though Mysuru is reckoned to be ranked 3rd under SSL cities, the MCC authorities said there is no ranking for SSL cities but only criteria for their inclusion is consistently high performance. In 2023, Mysuru had slid to national ranking of 27thwhich had drawn widespread flak from the citizens.
The authorities from the Mysuru City Corporation authorities said that Mysuru, known for its consistent excellence in urban cleanliness, has once again made the city proud by performing exceptionally well in the Swachh Super League 2024-25, a initiative under the Swachh Survekshan conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
It is essentially a prestige league of cities that have consistently performed well in the Swachh Survekshan rankings over the years. The idea is to create a 'Champions League' environment where the best cities compete with each other to achieve excellence beyond compliance, according to the authorities.
''The inclusion of Mysuru among SSL cities reflects the dedicated efforts of MCC, sanitation workers, and citizens in upholding the city's legacy of cleanliness, sustainability, and public participation,' said the authorities.
The rankings and survey, said the authorities, is designed to encourage healthy competition among top-performing cities and further shore up the standards in urban cleanliness, sanitation, and waste management.
Mrthyunjaya, nodal officer of MCC for Swachh Survekshan, said that the along with senior officials from the Urban Development Department and the MCC, a few pourakarmikas too were in Delhi for the presentation of awards.
In all, 4,589 urban local bodies were assessed and out of 12,500 marks, 80 per cent was allocated for data provided by ULBs, documents assessment, and field assessment. Remaining 2,500 marks was for garbage free cities (GFC) ratings, Open Defecation Free, processing, door to door segregation, etc.
A few other cities in Karnataka within the population range of 3 lakh to 10 lakh, and are not in the SSL category, have been ranked. This includes Davangere with a national ranking of 32, Hubli-Dharwad is ranked 34, Kalaburgi (57), Belagavi (72), Bellary (73), Shivamogga (81), Bijapur (83), Mangaluru (86), Tumakuru (92). BBMP is ranked 36th among cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.

Should Rishabh Pant be allowed a batting sub? Parthiv Patel weighs in on ICC rule

Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has said that while Rishabh Pant's injury during the Manchester Test is unfortunate, there is nothing wrong with the ICC's rule that prevents replacement wicketkeepers from batting. If Dhruv Jurel replaces Pant in the fourth Test, he will be allowed to keep wickets but will not be permitted to per Section 24.1.2 of the ICC playing conditions, 'a substitute shall not bowl [or bat] or act as captain but may act as wicket-keeper only with the consent of the umpires.' Since 2017, the MCC has allowed substitute wicketkeepers in cases of genuine injury or illness, provided the on-field umpires approve it.'advertisement'I am okay with the rule'Patel, who played 25 Tests in his career from 2002 to 2018, said that since teams often try to exploit the concussion substitute rule, the ICC's regulations regarding wicketkeeper replacements is fair. 'See, there are already quite a few grey areas that teams try to exploit. Like in T20 cricket, we've seen how the concussion rule is sometimes taken advantage of. So, in an ongoing game, if someone gets injured, what do you do?' JioHotstar expert, Parthiv Patel said while replying to India Today's query.'I think it's only fair. At least now, the rule has changed so that a wicketkeeper can be replaced by another wicketkeeper. Earlier, that wasn't even allowed - someone else from the team would have had to keep wickets.'But I'm okay with the rule. It's unfortunate that Rishabh got hit, but it is what it is. What can you do about it? Parthiv Day 1, Pant sustained a painful blow on his toe while trying to play a reverse scoop off Chris Woakes. After being hit, he winced in pain and received treatment. But he failed to recover and had to be taken off the ground. Later, he was carried off in an ambulance. Pant was batting on 37 off 48 balls with two fours and one the day's play, the BCCI released a statement saying that Pant was under the observation of the Indian team's medical had scored 37 runs off 48 balls, including two fours and a six, before retiring ended Day 1 at 264 for 4, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan both scoring fifties.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Mohammad Nabi's 18-Year-Old Son Hits Him For A First-Ball Six In T20 Match

Last Updated: Nabi's 18-year-old son, Hassan Eisakhil, is an opening batter, and he scored 52 runs from 36 balls for Amo Sharks in the Shpageeza Cricket League match on Tuesday. Mohammad Nabi is arguably the greatest cricketer from Afghanistan. In the last 18 years, the 40-year-old cricketer has played in more than 440 T20 matches for more than 40 teams around the globe. Nabi, who last played a T20I match for Afghanistan in December 2024 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, is plying his trade in the Shpageeza Cricket League these days for Mis Ainak Knights, and on Tuesday (July 22), he is in action against Amo Sharks. During the first half of the match taking place in Kabul, the 40-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder bowled one over for the Rahmanullah Gurbaz-led side and conceded 12 runs. He was introduced to the attack in the ninth over, but on the first ball he got smacked for a big six by his 18-year-old son, Hassan Eisakhil. The clip of him smacking Nabi for a six was shared on X by fans, and it is now going viral on the internet. Here's a look: Eisakhil, unlike his father, is a specialist batter and has played a total of 25 T20 matches so far, in which, with the help of four half-centuries, he has amassed a total of 599 runs. The right-handed batter scored 52 runs from 36 balls for Amo Sharks on Tuesday as well and helped them post a total of 162 runs on the board in 19.4 overs. In the first two matches of the Shpageeza Cricket League, he scored 6 and 35 runs. Eisakhil has played for the Afghanistan team in the 2024 U-19 World Cup. Nabi to play for Afghanistan with Eisakhil Nabi was set to retire from ODIs after Champions Trophy 2025 but he decided to take a U-turn from his retirement plan. Nabi, while speaking to ICC in February expressed his desire to play for Afghanistan at the highest level with his son Hassan Eisakhil. 'These might not be my last ODIs (the Champions Trophy), and I will probably play less ODIs and give chances to the youngsters to build experience. I've discussed with the senior players, and in the high-level games, maybe or maybe not, we'll see. It will depend on my fitness," Nabi was quoted as saying by ICC. 'It's my dream (to play together for the country), and hopefully we can do it. He (Eisakhil) is doing very well. He is a hard worker, and I'm also pushing him to work," he said. view comments First Published: July 22, 2025, 17:22 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
