Popular American musician Snoop Dogg's long-awaited biopic is officially moving forward, and the rap icon has shared heartfelt thoughts on the actor stepping into his shoes. Jonathan Daviss, best known for his breakout role in Netflix's Outer Banks, has been cast as the lead in the film, which will chronicle Snoop's journey from Calvin Broadus Jr. to global hip-hop legend.
A post shared by Death Row Pictures (@deathrowpictures)
Directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Coming 2 America), the project is being produced by Snoop himself, alongside Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker. Craig is currently rewriting the original script, which was penned by Joe Robert Cole.
The Snoop Dogg biopic enters a thriving space for musical storytelling in Hollywood, joining the ranks of successful recent projects like A Complete Unknown. With Snoop closely involved and Jonathan committed to honoring the man behind the legend, anticipation for the film is already running high.
Speaking on the red carpet of the 2025 BET Awards, Snoop opened up about what it means to see his life portrayed on screen and why Jonathan felt like the right fit. 'The whole thing man, he's a dynamic actor, he's a great spirit... It's just a beautiful thing to be able to find somebody that can actually do justice to you while you're still here and able to see it,' Snoop said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
He went on to describe the scope of the film, promising an intimate, layered portrayal: 'you'll just see the evolution... from creation to innovation... you'll be able to see the upbringings, the teachings, the lessons, the things that I went through... just a beautiful depiction of who I am.'
For Daviss, known for playing Pope Heyward and recently seen in Do Revenge, the opportunity is both monumental and deeply personal. 'playing a character like like Dog man he's he's an icon... I really want to get down to who he was as a person,' he said. 'I take it in small pieces... it's a process and I've just been learning and growing and got a great teacher,' Jonathan added.
The film also marks the first title to come out of Death Row Pictures' overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios, with Universal's Ryan Jones overseeing the production.

Identity of Aaron Rodgers' wife remains a mystery as ex-girlfriend says he was ‘emotionally abusive'
Aaron Rodgers left fans stunned by announcing that he is married. On Tuesday, the NFL quarterback revealed during a news conference that he has been married for a couple of months. 'Been a couple of months,' he told reporters after confirming that the ring on his finger was a wedding ring. The wedding rumours had first begun when Rodgers was spotted wearing a wedding ring at the Kentucky Derby, which took place on May 3, 2025. Rodgers, 41, did not disclose the name of his wife and her identity remains a mystery. That has not stopped internet users from theorizing who she could be. In April, during an appearance on the The Pat McAfee Show, the American footballer had said that he is in a pretty serious relationship, reported USA Today. He also revealed that the name of the woman he was dating is Brittani. However, it is not clear if Brittani is the woman Rodgers has married. The announcement of marriage comes weeks after Aaron Rodgers's ex-girlfriend, Danica Patrick, confirmed that she is single. Rodgers and Patrick broke up in 2020. According to a People magazine report, during an episode of The Sage Steele Show on May 21, Patrick was asked about the 'most amount of pain' she's experienced in her life. 'The breakup with Aaron in 2020,' the former race car driver and model replied. Danice Patrick followed it up by calling her relationship with the Pittsburgh Steelers player emotionally abusive. 'Because it was sudden, it felt like. It was my life. So like when you live with somebody, it's your whole life,' she said. 'And because the nature of the relationship was emotionally abusive, so that wore me down to nothing.' 'People could never imagine that I would lack … any confidence or belief in the simple things about who I am. 'Everything was torn to bits. Yeah, he leaves a trail of blood. I don't think I'm saying too much earth-shattering stuff after we — there's been enough out there,' said Patrick.

Thug Life to soon release on OTT? Amid poor box office performance, here's what we know about Kamal Haasan's film
Kamal Haasan's latest release Thug Life might be released on OTT sooner than expected, as per multiple reports. The film marks the reunion between filmmaker Mani Ratnam and Haasan. It ran into trouble due to Haasan's controversial 'Tamil-Kannada" remark and suffered a major loss at the box office over its blockage in Karnataka. Thug Life is a gangster drama, also starring Silambarasan. Before its release on June 5, Kamal Haasan had shared that Thug Life would mark its OTT debut after 8 weeks of its theatrical release. The film is said to be streamed online on Netflix. It seems Thug Life can be out on OTT after four weeks of its theatrical release now, reported M9 News. Reportedly, the OTT giant is evaluating the 8-week schedule since the film received an underwhelming response at the box office. Thug Life was released on Thursday and saw a decent start, making a business of ₹ 15. 5 crore [Tamil: ₹ 13.35 crore; Hindi: 0.65 crore; Teleugu: 1.5 crore]. However, over the first weekend, instead of showing growth, the film saw a sharp decline in its earnings. On Monday, it only minted ₹ 2.3 crore [Tamil: ₹ 1.9 crore ; Hindi: 0.1 crore; Telugu: ₹ 0.3 crore]. Going by the early estimates now, the film made ₹ 1.75 crore on Tuesday. However, the makers of the film are yet to make an official announcement about the OTT release. Talking about Thug Life's OTT release, Kamal Haasan was quoted saying by PTI, "It is not even an experiment, it's a pragmatic thing to do. I'm glad that the OTT (Netflix) agreed. We sat together, and it was not a negotiation. It's a plan, which maybe others could follow. 'It will make the industry healthy and we are glad that we were the first to be there to avail of that opportunity.' Thug Life is directed by Mani Ratnam, and co-written by Kamal Haasan who is also starring in the lead. It also stars Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal and Rohit Saraf. The film is produced by Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.

Kanye West changes name for second time — It's bizarre, fans say: ‘Ain't nobody calling him that'
Kanye West seems to have changed his name again, for the second time in his two-decade-long musical career. After debuting by his stage name, the rapper rebranded himself as Ye in 2021, and now, according to legal filings obtained by PageSix, he has changed his name to 'Ye Ye.' While Kanye has not confirmed this himself, a lot of legal changes in his life are already happening amid his ongoing legal battles, where a few of his employees at Yeezy have sued him. Earlier, it was reported that the American rapper has granted his wife, Bianca Censori, the power of attorney, which grants her the right to handle his business deals and professional decisions, but Ye has refrained from commenting on this publicly. Also read: Kanye West reportedly grants wife Bianca Censori power of attorney amid growing legal woes; here's what happens next Kanye's new business documents were filed in California by his chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani. According to the filings, several of Kanye's businesses, like Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label LLC, and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc., are now listing him under the name 'Ye Ye' as either manager or member. Back in 2018, Kanye announced that he wanted to go by 'Ye.' That same year, he dropped an album with the same name, recorded mostly at his Wyoming ranch. In an interview, he explained the reason behind his decision and said, 'I wanted to do something to match my energy,' he told Big Boy in June 2018. 'I believe 'ye' is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means 'you.' So I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.' In 2021, he filed legal paperwork to officially change his name from Kanye Omari West to his new moniker, under which he released his eighth studio album. Two months later, a judge approved it. Just a few days back, the Donda 2 rapper announced that he is going to shut down his X account, which goes by his real name and instead open a new one. 'Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter cause my name is Ye,' he shared on June 1. Also read: Kanye West finally makes 'Donda 2' available on streaming platforms, 3 years after initial release In March 2024, Kanye's former chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, even sent out a letter asking everyone to stop calling him 'Kanye West,' which he called his 'slave name.' The rapper's new name, 'one of the most recognisable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes,' the letter obtained by PageSix explained at the time. 'He didn't take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of 'Kanye West,' lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now.' The new filing for 'Ye Ye' comes only a few weeks after Kanye publicly said he would stop spreading antisemitic content on his social media. The Vultures crooner was cancelled and dropped from several brand endorsements following his controversial, abhorrent social media tirades and rants. A few weeks ago, he even dragged in his music colleagues — Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and their kids — and went on to attack Taylor Swift on his social media handle. Kanye West is fighting hard to make his return to the music industry, but fans are amused by the way he is approaching this new chapter, confused by his bizarre name change. 'Ye or Ye Ye, who cares?' a fan wrote. 'Ye Ye sounds like a guy who auto-tunes his emails,' another said. 'Ain't no one gonna call that sh**,' a third wrote. 'Every time he changes name, he starts spitting some new kind of venom.' The paperwork hints that his new name is being used in his businesses. Publicly, Kanye hasn't officially announced or explained this second name tweak.
