Cynthia Khalifeh Lands Next Film Role in Sci-Fi Thriller "White Mars"
Lebanese actress Cynthia Khalifeh's next big-screen role promises to be one of her most intense yet. Her latest project, "White Mars", a sci-fi thriller from XYZ Films, has officially wrapped production after action-packed months of shooting in Rome.
Lucy Hale ('Pretty Little Liars'), Luke Newton ('Bridgerton'), and Sabrina Dhowre Elba ('Three Thousand Years of Longing') round out the cast.
Directed by Martin Owen (Above the Below) from a script by Matt Mitchell, Vicki Sargent, and Roo Berry, "White Mars" was shot in a virtual production environment at the Cinecittà Studios in Rome.
Future Artists Entertainment's Matt Williams will produce the pic alongside Neil Jones with Steve Griffith and Steve Jelley from Singularity Entertainment. XYZ Films is co-financing, in conjunction with IPR.VC with Singularity, and is handling worldwide sales.
'White Mars' is the first feature to be announced for Singularity, an entertainment company 'specializing in virtual production and streamlined processes for independent films'.
Set in an isolated Aquila Research Facility, 'White Mars' follows microbiologist Sammie (Hale) as she and Leo (Newton) fight to save their fellow crew members from a malevolent entity whose sole intention is to extinguish them all.
'It was an adventure. It was a different type of project for me, running around screaming, blood, guts, all the stuff. But it's gonna be very fun,' Hale said in a previous statement about the movie.
The film will be the first full-length feature shot using volume stages, a tech update to green screen that uses light to create immersive 3D visual elements during the shooting process.
'So it was a different type of acting for me,' she said. 'I had to prepare a little differently. You had to bring something to life that wasn't necessarily there. So it was a challenge, but very fun.'
Hale has described White Mars as 'an absolute psychological thrill ride'. "I'm so excited to film this at the Cinecittà film stages in Rome," she said in a statement, describing her character Sammie as 'the heart of this story'.
'I truly admire for her resilience and strength,' she said. "I can't wait to collaborate with Martin Owen, our incredible cast, and the entire team to bring this story to life."

Angelina Jolie and Doug Liman Reunite for Movie "The Initiative"
Yara Sameh Angelina Jolie is attached to star in the new spy thriller 'The Initiative,' reuniting with her 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' director Doug Liman. Universal is in talks to land the hot project with F. Scott Frazier ('Collide,' 'xXx: The Return of Xander Cage') tapped to write the screenplay — plot details for which are being kept under wraps — and Jeff Kirschenbaum to produce for Roth/Kirschenbaum Films. Like Liman, RK Films also has a solid relationship with Jolie as the company backed Disney's hit 'Maleficent' movies, in which she played the title role. While plot details are being kept under wraps, 'The Initiative' witnesses Jolie's return to the slick action thrillers that made her a box office megastar, including 'Salt,' 'The Tourist' and 'Wanted.' If the deal with Universal closes, executive VP of production development Jay Polidoro and director of development Tony Ducret will oversee the pic for the studio. Jolie was most recently seen in Pablo Larraín's 'Maria,' where she earned rave reviews for portraying famed soprano Maria Callas. Upcoming, she stars in Alice Winocour's bilingual drama 'Couture,' which she also produced, and is set for the film adaptation of 'Anxious People' from Marc Foster. Liman — who most recently helmed 'Roadhouse,' a huge hit for Amazon MGM Studios, and 'The Instigations' on Apple TV+ — continues his run with Universal after he directed 2002's 'The Bourne Identity' and 2017's 'American Made,' starring Tom Cruise. Liman and Cruise are currently developing a movie for the studio, which will be filmed entirely in space. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Red Sea Film Foundation Reveals Jury for 48-Hour Film Challenge
The Red Sea Film Foundation has named the jury for its fifth 48-Hour Film Challenge, where 14 Saudi teams will vie for a filmmaking residency in France and a screening at the Red Sea Film Festival. The Red Sea Film Foundation has announced the jury for the fifth edition of its 48-Hour Film Challenge, naming Saudi presenter and actor Yasser Al Saggaf, Lebanese actress and director Carmen Bsaibes, and French-Moroccan filmmaker and actor Ayoub Layoussifi. All three are recognised for their contributions to Arab and international cinema, with experience in both directing and acting. Organised in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Jeddah, the Embassy of France in Saudi Arabia, Alliance Française, and the Centre for French Culture, this year's challenge will see 14 emerging Saudi filmmaking teams compete for a 2026 filmmaking residency in France. The winning films will also be screened at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2025. Shortlisted teams took part in a preparatory workshop on July 11th and the 12th, 2025, led by Iraqi director Ahmed Yassin Aldaradji, Saudi filmmaker Ahd Kamel, and Academy member Cyril Aris. Sessions covered directing, screenwriting, and editing, equipping participants to produce a short film within the 48-hour timeframe. The completed films will be screened in September 2025 during two professional days for industry feedback and mentorship. Two winning teams will be selected based on creativity, technical execution, and storytelling impact, with team leaders receiving the residency in France.
