The process of shifting the wreckage of the
Air India plane
, that crashed on June 12 on a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad, to the airport premises here was still on for the third day, officials said on Tuesday.
The Gujarat police on Sunday started moving the wreckage on trucks from the crash site in Meghaninagar to
GUJSAIL
(Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited) building, which is in the airport premises.
The ill-fated plane's tail fin, which got stuck on the medical college hostel premises, was shifted on a truck on Sunday.

The wreckage will be in custody of the the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is investigating the plane crash, Joint Commissioner of Police, Sector 2, Jaipal Singh Rathore told PTI.
"We began moving the wreckage of the Air India plane to the GUJSAIL building on June 22 and the work is still going on as the recent spell of rain has caused some interruption," said Rathore.

He said that while the DNA samples of the relatives of the victims were collected at Ahmedabad Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the DNA matching was conducted at FSL Gandhinagar and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). 'In some cases, multiple DNA samples from relatives were required, while in others, a single relative's sample was sufficient to identify multiple family members who died in the crash,' he added. 'This was one of the biggest DNA-matching efforts that India has seen,' said Dr. Bhargav Patel, Head of the Center of Excellence in DNA Forensics at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). A DNA matching exercise such as this typically takes months. But in the case of the AI 171 crash, identification of viable samples has been completed in about two weeks. Dr. Vishal Mewada, assistant professor at NFSU, developed specialized in-house software that significantly accelerated the DNA matching process. 'One of the biggest challenges we faced was that it took 5-7 minutes for a single match using the existing technology, but with the new software, we could match 500 samples in just five minutes,' he explained.

Two Bengaluru ops suspended for extorting specially abled man
Bengaluru: Two policemen from Indiranagar station have been suspended for allegedly extorting Rs 37,000 from a specially abled man by threatening to implicate him in a fabricated drug case. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the duo — constable Parameshwar Nayak and head constable Sharan Basappa Poojari. A senior police officer confirmed the action and said the alleged incident took place on the night of June 14. According to the complaint, around 11.50pm near a pub on Indiranagar 100ft Road, the victim was waiting for an autorickshaw. "There was Rs 42,000 in my account. On their instructions, I called a friend and got Rs 10,000 transferred. I first tried to withdraw money from an ATM, but it wasn't working. They then rode to Paramahamsa Yogananda Road and stopped at another ATM, where I withdrew Rs 40,000," the victim recounted. After handing over the cash, he pleaded with them that he had nothing left. The men then returned Rs 3,000 before speeding away. Shaken by the experience, the victim approached Broseph Foundation, an NGO that supports individuals in legal distress. The foundation subsequently took up the matter with senior police officers at Indiranagar station.
