MG M9 India-spec features, range and variants confirmed: Here's what you should know

The MG M9 all-electric three-row luxury MPV is set to be launched on our shores soon, and we now have all the details about the India-spec model. Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2025 held in New Delhi, this is one of JSW MG Motor's flagship electric offerings and the fifth EV for the Indian market. Bookings have been open since May 2025 for a token amount of ₹ 51,000.
The M9 will be sold alongside the Cyberster electric sports car via MG Select, the brand's premium retail network. It will compete in the luxury MPV segment against the likes of the Toyota Vellfire and the Kia Carnival. This is the first people-carrier from the brand in India, and with its CBU status, it is expected to be priced between the ₹ 65-70 lakh mark (ex-showroom).

The MG M9 EV is fitted with a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, enabling a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The front-mounted electric motor makes 241 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, allowing the MPV to achieve a top speed of 180 kmph. MG says the battery can be fully charged from 5 per cent to 100 per cent in approximately 8.5 hours using an 11 kW charger. The three-row, seven-seater MG M9 brings a closed-off trapezoidal front grille flanked by LEDs. It offers a wheelbase of 3,200 mm and rides on 19-inch alloys.
With three rows and seven seats, the M9 measures 5,270 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,840 mm in height. Its wheelbase measures 3,200 mm, boasting larger dimensions than rivals such as the Carnival and the Vellfire. The M9 features a closed-off trapezoidal front grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps mounted on the bumper with connected LED DRLs above. It brings electric sliding doors and rides on 19-inch alloys wrapped in self-healing Continental ContiSeal tyres. The M9 EV is globally available in two variants. While both are quite identical in terms of performance and safety features, the top-spec model gets upholstered in natural leather and offers electrically adjustable ottoman seats in the second row. All seats in the first and second row for this variant additionally feature ventilation, heating, and massage functionality, which in the base variant are reserved for the second-row seats.
In India, the electric MPV will be offered in the fully loaded top-spec variant, called the Presidential Limo. It will be offered with three colour options: Metal Black, Concrete Grey, and Pearl Lustre White. The cabin gets upholstered in a natural leather and suede combo, finished in cognac brown.

The M9 offers a luxurious cabin that features a three-zone climate control system and 2nd-row ottoman seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions. Occupants can control these parameters via a touchscreen panel on the handrail. Rear passengers are treated to individual entertainment screens, and the cabin further features a Chamois-wrapped dual-pane sunroof for an expansive feel.
The front row in the MPV brings a minimalist dashboard that includes two dedicated screens: a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 7-inch instrument cluster. HVAC controls are on a touch capacitive panel below the infotainment display. The floating centre console houses cupholders, a wireless charger, and under-arm storage. The M9 offers 7 airbags all around, alongside features such as ABS, ESP with auto hold, and TPMS. The electric MPV further features an ADAS suite, including safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Integrated Cruise Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking System, lane driving aids, a speed assist system, and a 360-degree surround view monitor. Although it is yet to be tested by the Bharat NCAP, it has been awarded a five-star rating from both European and Australian NCAP crash tests.

Satcom spectrum allocation rules likely to be in place within two months
New Delhi: Rules for the allocation of spectrum for satellite communications services are likely to be in place within two months, a government official said on Monday. The spectrum allocation rules are the last lap that will enable Elon Musk-led Starlink , Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat Oneweb and Jio SES to apply for the radiowaves and start rolling out their services. "Spectrum allocation rules are likely to be fixed in two months. After that, it will be at the discretion of satcom services when they want to roll out their services," the official said. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended that the government should allocate spectrum without auction and through an administrative process-- a move that has seen huge resistance from telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel initially. The regulator has suggested that spectrum for satcom services can be for a period of up to five years and considering the market conditions, the government may extend it for a further period of up to two years. Trai has suggested that spectrum charges for both GSO-based and Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) Fixed Satellite Services should be levied at 4 per cent of adjusted gross revenue (AGR). OneWeb and Starlink fall into the LEO (low earth orbit) category which are considered to be Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellites. Besides, NGSO-based Fixed Satellite service providers should also pay an additional per subscriber charge of ₹500 per annum in urban areas while exempting the rural and remote areas from this additional charge. While allaying the threat to land-based telecom networks from satcom services, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said that Musk-led satellite communication services provider Starlink can have only 20 lakh connections in India with a peak speed of 200 megabits per second. A government official mentioned that the limit on Starlink connections is due to its existing capacity. The minister said that the upfront cost for satcom services will be too high and the monthly cost may be around ₹3,000. PTI

Safeguards for generics in UK FTA: Govt
New Delhi: The India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) does not mandate patent term extensions or data exclusivity, which are two common tools of evergreening of patents, the commerce and industry ministry said Monday, adding that this would protect the interests of the domestic generic drugs industry . Data exclusivity provides protection to the technical data generated by innovator companies to prove the usefulness of their products. "The FTA does not mandate patent term extensions or data exclusivity-two common tools of evergreening. India's patent law provisions on patentability criteria under Section 3(d) (of Indian Patent Act) remain fully protected," the ministry said. It prohibits the grant of 'evergreening' patents, which are additional patents for a drug with no therapeutic benefit and are seen to increase the term of a patent monopoly. The India-UK comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA) was signed on July 24. India's generic drug industry is estimated to be about $25 billion and it exports 50% of its produce. Live Events "The FTA does not require India to provide patent term extensions for regulatory delays and data exclusivity for pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals," it said, adding that this ensures that generic manufacturers can enter the market without unnecessary delay, once the patent has expired or is challenged. Farm access The ministry also said India is giving duty concessions to niche British agricultural products like cranberries, durians, certain varieties of mushrooms, leeks, lettuce, and artichokes under the trade pact. These products have negligible production in India,it said. However, India is not giving any concession on sensitive items like apples, pineapples, oranges, and pomegranates in the CETA. Over 95% of Indian tariff lines or product categories in the agri sector will now enjoy zero-duty access to the UK market. "India-UK CETA will allow Indian farmers to fetch premium prices for their products in the UK market, thereby granting parity with major EU exporters like Germany and Netherlands, who currently enjoy zero tariffs," it said. It said major gains are estimated for fresh grapes; bakery items, onions and mixed vegetables. Industry analysis forecasts doubling of India's 39-bn pound sports economy by 2027
TIL Creatives Representative AI Image India's sports economy, currently estimated at 38.84 billion pounds, is expected to nearly double by 2027, said a report based on an analysis of global collaborations in sports-tech, infrastructure and inclusion. The report titled 'Winning Together: Unlocking the Sports Economy between India and Manchester' also reflects the growing interest of Indian corporates in Manchester's thriving sports ecosystem. The report was released by the Consulate General of India in Manchester in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Grant Thornton Bharat over the weekend. The report, which was released during the fourth India versus England Test match at the Old Trafford stadium in the city, spotlights increasing Indian investments across different sports beyond cricket. "This document marks a significant step in identifying synergies between two regions with a deep passion for sport, a strong culture of performance, and growing aspirations to become global hubs of talent and innovation," said Vishakha Yaduvanshi, Consul General of India in Manchester. According to the diplomat, the new Consulate General in Manchester which came up in March, has opened up new avenues for regional partnerships, with sport being a natural and powerful connector. The report came days after members of the Indian cricket team met football players of Manchester United in London, underscoring the deep cultural resonance and global fandom that connects the two sporting nations. "The India-Manchester sports collaboration, as explored in this report, highlights the power of purposeful global engagement and serves as a shining example of this policy in action," said Jyoti Vij, FICCI Director General. "There is an immense opportunity to drive business-to-business collaborations between the two sides, and harness avenues for knowledge exchange and technical expertise. Such partnerships can catalyse innovation and significantly enhance institutional capacities," she said. The report has also proposed a Bilateral Working Group (BWG) to formalise public-private engagement, an India-UK sportstech innovation hub and e-sports talent exchange, academic and R&D partnerships with institutions like Loughborough University in the UK and IIT Delhi, scaled engagement from Premier League football clubs and Indian investors, and a joint approach to inclusive, gender-balanced sports ecosystems. "Our collaboration with Manchester showcases how two diverse but complementary systems can co-create frameworks for athlete development, immersive fan engagement, and sustainable infrastructure," said Abhishek Binaykia, Partner & Sports Advisory Leader, Grant Thornton Bharat. The report came during a sports leaders' delegation tour of Manchester, led by P K S V Sagar, Chair of FICCI's Sports Committee, for a series of high-level interactions with representatives across business and academia. "There is tremendous potential for India-UK collaboration in areas such as sports education and talent development through academic partnerships and exchange programmes between institutions, sports technology, including AI-driven performance analytics, fan engagement platforms, and wearable tech," said Sagar, President of GMR Sports. Event management and franchise development, especially in emerging leagues and community sports, co-development of sustainable sports infrastructure and facilities and joint research in sports science and injury rehabilitation are also important areas, he said. "Additionally, both nations can benefit from co-hosting sporting events and developing cross-border business models that blend UK expertise with India's scale and youthful energy," he said. About the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UK visit last week, Sagar said the deal will not only reduce trade barriers but also encourage joint investments, innovation, and institutional collaborations, which can reshape the sports economy on both sides. Delegation member Preeti Jhangiani, founder of the Pro Panja Arm-Wrestling League, termed the FTA a "game changer" for Indian businesses and investors that will unlock a wide spectrum of opportunities across sectors. "The greatest synergies will happen in Olympic sports and popular upcoming sports like arm wrestling, which benefits greatly because it not only has an Indian ethos as 'Bharat Ka Khel' but also as an international sport known all over the world and played on many levels such as University Games, Police Games, Combat Games and now Youth Asian Games," said Jhangiani, revealing that an "India-UK Arm Wrestling/Panja series" is already in planning stages. The India-UK FTA, formally known as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed on July 24, is now proceeding to the UK parliamentary ratification process before it can be enforced.
