The Batman Part II Gets Official Filming Date From Warner Bros.
It's been three years since Matt Reeves helmed The Batman, and development on the long-awaited sequel has been relatively slow. However, Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin recently turned in their script to DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. With the movie's 2027 release date approaching, the start date for filming has been revealed.
When can we expect The Batman Part II to begin filming?
In a letter to Warner Bros. Discovery's shareholders, the company announced that The Batman Part II will begin filming in the spring of 2026.
'The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development,' reads the letter via Deadline.
The filming update comes days after the news that Reeves' Batman sequel has entered pre-production and will shoot at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London next year.
Details about The Batman 2 remain tightly under wraps. Robert Pattinson is confirmed to return as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Although unconfirmed by Reeves or Warner Bros., cast members from The Batman expected to return for the sequel include Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
The Batman followed Pattinson's Bruce Wayne in his second year of crime-fighting as the Caped Crusader. Batman's task is to find and stop a serial killer known as The Riddler (Paul Dano), who has been targeting Gotham's most powerful and corrupt individuals.
Released in March 2022, The Batman received positive reviews and financial success, grossing over $772 million worldwide. Warner Bros. announced a sequel one month later.
Reeves' Batman is part of DC Elseworlds, a section of DC that is separate from Gunn's interconnected universe. Production has been delayed multiple times on the sequel. For now, The Batman 2 is dated for October 1, 2027.

We Finally Have a New Clue About James Gunn's Next DC Movie
Superman is DC's biggest hit in years, so, of course, the Man of Steel will be flying to the big screen once again. But in what movie? Well, we now have our best clue yet, even though it's still a little murky. In recent weeks, DC Studios president and writer and director of Superman, James Gunn, has teased that he's been writing a new DC movie that features Superman but isn't a Superman sequel. Most minds immediately jump to something like World's Finest, which could team up a new Batman with Superman, but that's just speculation. Gunn hasn't confirmed anything. Then, Thursday morning, Variety reported that CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, said on an earnings call that Gunn will write and direct 'the next installment in the Super-Family.' That's an intriguing statement with various potential implications, but, before speculating, most fans know the move is to check James Gunn's Threads account. That's where he likes to confirm, deny, and clarify certain rumors, and, as of publication, Gunn has done that… sort of. In response to a fan asking if he was, indeed, 'preparing for the next installment in the Super-Family,' the always-savvy Gunn focused on that first part of the question, replying, 'I am actually past preparing and well into writing.' Which, again, we knew. What Gunn didn't object to, though, was the phrase 'Super-Family,' and that's the big clue here. What does that mean, exactly? Well, for most of us, our minds jump to the movie itself, where we saw Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, appear. She's Superman's cousin, Krypto's owner, and the next DC hero with a film coming to the big screen. Two cousins and a dog certainly qualify as a 'super-family.' And if they had to team up, the adventure could take them practically anywhere across the DC Universe. That would be exciting. However, we also have to look at the messenger. It was David Zaslav who said 'Super-Family,' not someone with a deep knowledge of comic books. There's every chance in the world a business-driven CEO saying that just means something like 'the next in the family of Superman movies.' Or even the family of 'superhero movies.' It's a phrase that can be read as either very specific or very vague, depending on point of view. And, we think, that was on purpose. Gunn, to his credit, has suggested we'll learn what he's been writing and will next direct sooner rather than later. And, if we had to bet on it, we think it probably does feature Supergirl and Krypto alongside Superman. We just don't know for sure yet. What are your thoughts here? Do you think Gunn's next movie is about Kryptonian heritage? Or is David Zaslav speaking in broader strokes? Let us know below. Want more io9 news? Marques'Almeida Fall 2025 Ready-to-Wear Collection
After a one-off show in London last season, Marta Marques and Paolo Almeida were back in their home country of Portugal for fall. But don't let this runway footage fool you; set in the middle of a sun-drenched vineyard, this 'show' featured no guests. The designers were invited by the Portuguese tourism board to present one of their collections in the country. Leave it to this creative duo to turn their lookbook into an advertising campaign for a Portuguese getaway. On the makeshift runway, the Marques'Almeida collection looks a little more sophisticated than usual. 'It's not a traditionally elegant collection,' offered Almeida, calling in from his studio hours before departing for a well-deserved August holiday, 'but it is a little more grown-up, we were so young when we started!' To Almeida's point, there was nothing too formal about the designers' new take on elegance. For starters, they showed it outside, surrounded by nature and grass, which informed the more pragmatic footwear choices. Few designers can make a convincing peplum these days—one that doesn't look like something out of 2012, that is—but here they were available in spades. Evening volumes and fabrications were oftentimes paired with grungy acid-wash denim or fashioned into relaxed, unfussy shapes (including some great pajama-like sets). The OG Marques'Almeida spirit remains intact, even if the designers themselves have matured. 'We made some things we wouldn't have done or thought about at first,' Almeida said, speaking of the lineup's long, embellished sheaths and the cutesy flared skirts. Age looks good on them—who wouldn't want to be a plus-one wherever those funky drapes and ballooning blouses are headed come fall?
