Rahul's Story
Akshay's Take on Matchmaking
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar played a pivotal role in bringing together actress Asin and tech entrepreneur Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax. A resurfaced interview clip featuring Rahul narrating the story of how Akshay turned into an unexpected matchmaker has gone viral on the buzzing Bollywood subreddit, BollyBlindsGossip. In a heartfelt conversation with content creator Raj Shamani, Rahul revisited the early days of meeting his future wife and shared what initially caught his attention about her.Recalling the memorable encounter, Rahul said, 'Back in 2012, we were attending an India versus Pakistan cricket match. Akshay's film Housefull 2 was about to be released, and Asin was part of the cast. Akshay mentioned that they were planning to promote the movie, and since Micromax was sponsoring the Asia Cup that year—which was being held in Dhaka, Bangladesh—I ended up going along. So whenever someone asks me where I met my wife, I jokingly reply, 'At the most romantic destination ever—Dhaka',' he said with a laugh. He further explained that during that brief interaction at the match, they exchanged greetings but didn't have a full-fledged conversation. 'Later on, Akshay told me that she's a really grounded and modest person. He said she's very much like me—she's focused, professional, and doesn't seek attention. He even mentioned that her parents come from humble, respectable backgrounds: her mom's a doctor, and her dad works in public service. Then, without any hesitation, he shared my contact details with her and vice versa. He genuinely believed we were alike in many ways—same roots, same values,' Rahul recalled. The couple eventually tied the knot in 2016 and are now proud parents to their daughter Arin, who is seven years old. Rahul considers Akshay's role in bringing them together one of the most meaningful things the actor has ever done for him. Asin, following her marriage, stepped away from the film industry. Her final appearance on screen was in All Is Well, a light-hearted romantic drama directed by Umesh Shukla that came out in 2015.Back in 2016, Akshay Kumar finally opened up about his role in setting up Asin and Rahul. He admitted that he had kept the story under wraps for nearly four years. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, 'Yes, I did help them meet. Jacqueline Fernandez was around too, but she didn't catch on because I was being quite discreet.'He elaborated with a playful anecdote from the filming of Housefull 2, 'We were in Delhi and, believe it or not, we were playing hide-and-seek. I actually made the two of them hide in the same cupboard—that's where the spark began. It's so heartwarming to see it eventually led to marriage.'Akshay and Asin shared the screen in two films—Housefull 2 and Khiladi 786. Although Asin is most widely recognized by Hindi-speaking audiences for her breakout role in Ghajini alongside Aamir Khan, she chose to walk away from the limelight following her marriage, with All Is Well marking her last film.

Content drives a film, not the cast: Sharmiela Mandre

Actress Sharmiela Mandre , who has begun shooting Dad with superstar Shivarajkumar, opens up to Bangalore Times about her first day on set, the need for stronger women's stories in Kannada cinema, and her vision as both actor and producer. : 'DAD IS NOT THE TYPICAL MASS ENTERTAINER' With Shivarajkumar, Dad is on a bigger scale, but it's not one of those larger-than-life commercial films, explains Sharmiela. 'Being a thriller, the approach is different — the content is strong, and that's what drives it. It excites me not just as an actor but also as a viewer,' she says. 'STRONG SCRIPT CONNECTS WITH THE AUDIENCE' Sharmiela admits that female-centric stories are still rare in Kannada cinema. 'I've come across women-led scripts, but many didn't excite me. I want to be part of more female-driven films. The script is everything. If the writing is strong, people will connect—whether it's led by a man or a woman 'IMPACTFUL ROLES ALWAYS STAND OUT' On striking a balance between mass and meaningful cinema, Sharmiela explains, 'For an actor, the choice is often a small solo film where nothing stands out, or a big-budget project with an impactful role. For me, if the role adds weight to a larger film, I'd love to do it. With the pan-India culture, people remember strong roles, no matter the screen time.' It's my second time working with Shivanna, so it didn't feel like a new environment. He makes everyone comfortable on set; his energy is amazing, you automatically get involved as a co-actor. It didn't feel like work, it felt like the best shoot ever Sharmiela Mandre 'GOOD WRITING IS WHAT STAYS' As a producer, Sharmiela is equally invested in content. 'I don't want to make the usual big-scale commercial films. I'd like to start with something grounded — maybe a family drama or a fresh subject with newcomers. Today's audience wants to be engaged from the start. Good writing is what stays, and that's what I'm chasing — both on screen and behind it,' she says. Rajinikanth's Coolie Makers Willingly Accepted ‘A' Certificate: CBFC Tells Madras HC

Rajinikanth's Coolie has earned Rs 214 crore in India in 6 days. The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Wednesday informed the Madras High Court that Sun TV Network Limited had willingly accepted an 'A' certificate for Rajinikanth's latest film Coolie, after refusing to carry out the additional cuts required for a U/A certification. The move effectively barred viewers below 18 years from watching the film in theatres. Appearing before Justice T.V. Thamilselvi, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) A.R.L. Sundaresan said the production firm had been clearly informed that further edits were necessary to secure a U/A certificate. 'They made an endorsement saying they did not want any cuts and opted for the 'A' certificate. Having accepted it, they cannot now take a contrary stand," he told the court. The submissions were made during the hearing of a civil miscellaneous appeal filed by the production house seeking to quash the CBFC's August 4 proceedings and direct the issuance of a U/A certificate. The ASG argued that there was no urgency to the plea since the film had already been released on August 14. He pointed out that the appeal had been filed only on Tuesday, a week after release, and said there was no extraordinary circumstance such as an imminent eviction or demolition, warranting a priority hearing. He requested time until August 25 for the CBFC to file a counter-affidavit. Outlining the timeline, Sundaresan said the producers had applied for certification on July 28 and were issued an 'A' certificate on August 4. Ten days later, they went ahead with the release and only after a week approached the High Court seeking U/A classification. 'They cannot demand an urgent hearing after such a delay," he submitted. After considering the arguments, Justice Thamilselvi said she would grant sufficient time for the CBFC to file its counter affidavit, noting that nearly a week had already passed since the film's release. In its appeal, the production company said Coolie had been made to mark superstar Rajinikanth's 50 years in cinema. The film, featuring a pan-India cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni and Aamir Khan, had emerged as a 'mega blockbuster," it claimed. However, it argued that Rajinikanth's massive fan base, which spans all age groups, was being unfairly restricted from viewing the film because of the 'A' certification.
