Aamir Khan tried to convince producer Aditya Chopra to make changes to Thugs of Hindostan for 8 months, didn't like the film: ‘But Adi was very confident'
When Aamir Khan appeared in YRF's big budget film Thugs of Hindostan with Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, it was promoted as the most anticipated film of the year. Releasing on the festival of Diwali in 2018, it got a massive opening of Rs 50.75 crore, which was the highest opening for a Hindi film until then, but soon after that, the film fell on its face and was rejected by the audience. So much so that Aamir had to take full responsibility for the film's failure in public. Now, Aamir has shared that he was not happy with the film and was well aware that it would get rejected by the audience and he even tried to convince the producer, Aditya Chopra, and director, Vijay Krishna Acharya, for eight months to make changes, but they didn't budge.
Aamir, in a chat shared on Zee Music Company's YouTube channel, shared, 'What happened with Thugs was… I didn't like the film myself. Now, enough years have passed and I really respect Adi (Aditya) and Victor (Vijay) but sometimes, there are creative differences. When the film was made, Adi and Victor really liked it, the way it was made, but I didn't like it at all.'
Aamir added that the film had gone wrong on paper itself and shared, 'I felt that structurally, we went wrong with the writing and I tried to tell them about it but they were confident that the film is good. I tried to convince them for around 8 months but ultimately, they are the director and producer so whatever they decision they took, I accepted it because I have to follow what they are saying.'

He recalled that weeks before the release of the film, he was sleeping like a baby, which was very unlike him as he had a tendency to lose sleep before a major release. When his then wife, Kiran Rao, questioned him about the same, he shared with her, he recalled telling her, 'I said I have no anxiety about this film because I know this won't work and I believe if I don't like it, why should I expect the audience to like it? So when Thugs didn't work, I didn't feel bad because I didn't like it too.'
After the film's failure, Aamir, in a press conference said, 'I take the full responsibility of Thugs not working with the audience. You can be sure that we tried our level best but somewhere we went wrong. There are a few people who liked the film. I would like to thank them. We realise that most of the people did not like the film. I want to apologise to fans that I couldn't entertain them the way they wanted, though we did try our best.'

Amid Deepika Padukone's 8-Hour Work Demand, Banita Sandhu Says, "I Have Always Believed In 12-Hour Turnovers"
New Delhi: Deepika Padukone and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga have been at odds over an 8-hour work demand. The disagreement led to the actress exiting Vanga's upcoming film Spirit, sparking a wave of speculation about clashing work ethics. Now, actress Banita Sandhu has shared her opinion on the same. The October actress, in an interview with SCREEN, recalled facing a similar issue. On the contrary, Hollywood, she revealed, has many unions to support the stars and the crew. Banita Sandhu said, "It is so important. One thing that we have in the West is really strong unions. They protect actors and crew. I have always been a firm believer in 12-hour turnovers for everybody on sets. We are not at war, we are making movies." She added, "I do not think anyone's mental health should be sacrificed for that. At the end of the day, it is a job, and everyone deserves an adequate amount of rest and sleep. It is a basic human right." Speaking about Hindi cinema, Banita Sandhu shared that work-life balance is slowly "getting better now." The 27-year-old, however, disclosed that things were not that great during the initial years of her career. "With Hindi cinema, it is getting better now. But early in my career, when I really did not understand how industries work, I just assumed this was the way to work. I did 16-18 hours a day shifts, where producers aligned my schedule, I would shoot the whole day and then fly at night," Banita Sandhu told the outlet. Without mentioning Bollywood, Banita Sandhu added that voicing her concerns led to her being "blacklisted" from the industry. She said, "I did not sleep for 24 hours straight. I stood up for myself and the crew. I told the producers that this is not okay. Maybe, I am blacklisted from that industry now, but I don't care. I just believe in standing up for what's right." On the work front, Banita Sandhu will next be seen in Detective Sherdil. The murder mystery, directed by Ravi Chhabriya, also features Diljit Dosanjh, Boman Irani, Diana Penty, and Sumeet Vyas in key roles. Detective Sherdil will premiere on Zee5 on June 20, 2025.

NDTV Exclusive: Shriya Pilgaonkar Calls Mirzapur"Turning Point" Of Her Career - "It Was Like Doing A Big Commercial Film"
New Delhi: Shriya Pilgaonkar, who was last seen playing a police officer in ZEE5's Chhal Kapat The Deception, recently revealed the project she considers to be the turning point in her career. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the actress shared that Mirzapur "changed the momentum." Shriya, who played the role of Sweety Gupta in the show, said, "Although I made my Hindi film debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Fan, I think it was Mirzapur that really changed the momentum of my career in terms of the success of that show. It was like doing a big commercial film, right? It's still extremely popular. I'm known as Sweety Gupta to a lot of people." Reflecting on the other key moments that shaped her journey as an actor, she shared, "And after that, I think if I were to speak in terms of the scope that a part gave me, Guilty Minds - I mean, my character of the lawyer Kashaf Kazi in Guilty Minds - gave me a lot of critics' love and I think it just gave me scope to show what I'm capable of, and every actor really wants that. You know, when you have that much meat and that much scope to really play around, explore yourself, unravel those layers. But I've been very, very fortunate because all the parts I've played have had a certain graph and have been memorable in their own way." The actress added, "And people know me as those characters and I think there is no bigger compliment than people calling you by the names of the characters - so whether it is Sweety from Mirzapur or Madhu from Taaza Khabar - when people call me that, I think that makes me feel very good." "But I would still say that, you know, it's been 10 years since I started acting, but I still approach my work with the energy and passion and hope of a debutante, because there is so much more that I want to do and I want to prove. And I feel like I'm more ambitious than I've ever been," Shriya concluded. ICYDK, in Chhal Kapat The Deception, Shriya plays a fierce cop. As part of her prep for the role, she interacted with several real-life police officers in Uttar Pradesh, including ADG Padmaja Chauhan. She also learned about 1090, a women's redressal helpline run by the state police. Directed by Ajay Bhuyan, the series features an ensemble cast including Kamya Ahlawat, Ragini Dwivedi, Tuhina Das, Yahhve Sharma, Pranay Pachauri, Smaran Sahu, and Anuj Sachdeva. It is produced by Juggernaut Production and premiered on June 6 on ZEE5. Shriya is the daughter of veteran actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar.
