Finn Bennett wore his first ever 'real tuxedo' to Cannes Film Festival

Perth Now22-05-2025
Finn Bennett had never worn a real tuxedo before Cannes Film Festival.
The actor is being honoured by Chopard with this year's Trophée - which is awarded each year to emerging actors - and the rising star loved dressing up for the occasion, where Angelina Jolie presented him with the prize.
He told Women's Wear Daily: "It was the first time I wore a real tux.
"I'd rented a cheap one before, but this was like, 'Wow, this is what it's meant to feel like.' '
He was also loaned a handmade, battery-free watch from Chopard for the event, and he was happy to try something new.
He quipped: 'I know nothing about watches, but I feel like I've learned so much.'
Although he doesn't consider himself a fashionista by any stretch, he is "getting more into it" after he attended the McQueen Paris Fashion Week show in September 2024.
He added: 'It was amazing — the drama, the solemnity. It was a real performance. So yeah, I'm getting more into it. I'd love to go to more shows.'
With his Cannes award, Finn is following in the footsteps of the likes of Joe Alwyn and James McAvoy.
Initially, he didn't "really believe" the call when he found out he was following in their footsteps.
He said: 'I didn't really believe it at first.
"I looked up the previous recipients and there are some really amazing people on there — not just well-known, but brilliant actors who do the kind of projects I want to do.'
Finn - who has appearaed in the likes of 'Black Doves', 'True Detective: Night Country' and 'Warfare' - is thriving under the "pressure" of living up to his growing reputation.
He explained: "You're working with more revered and recognisable people.
"It's not that you're scared of them, but you want to impress them. You want to do a good job."

Finn Wolfhard gushes Pope Leo XIV is ‘cool'

Finn Wolfhard thinks Pope Leo XIV is 'cool'. The Stranger Things actor, 22, has been a familiar face on screen since his early teens and while navigating international fame continued to attend a local Catholic school during the show's early seasons rather than opting for homeschooling like many of his young co-stars. Now, with over a decade in the public eye, Finn said in a chat with Variety in which he reflectied on the intersection of faith, politics, anxiety and growing up in front of the world: 'Pope Leo XIV looks like a cool liberal guy who actually cares about people. 'I'm pretty agnostic now, but religion was a big part of my childhood.' Despite describing himself as politically active, Finn added he prefers to stay largely private when it comes to public discourse. He said: 'I am active in my personal life and try not to be in public. 'But I also know how that sounds in the sense of 'Everyone has a platform' and 'I should be more… '.' In particular, Finn identified two causes he is deeply committed to – Ukraine and Indigenous land rights. His father, an attorney, advocates for the latter. Finn added: 'I think the amount that the government gets away with, by just f****** over so many Indigenous groups. 'They have to fight the government to try to get money from them for stolen land – it's just insane.' Finn also supports Ukraine through monthly donations to United24, a fundraising platform launched by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Finn also opened up about how the challenges of fame were compounded by early-onset anxiety, which he says was formally diagnosed. 'Diagnosed, yeah,' he said. Finn added: 'Then I started seeing a therapist. It's something that's worked for me. I can either try to bury that stuff and just do project after project, not think about it, or be able to ask myself these questions.' Finn is currently single and describes his current focus as being firmly on his work. But when asked about his relationship status, he struggled to form a complete thought. He said: 'I'm single and like… I feel like that's something that I'm also kind of thinking about right now is just like… this is the time kind of where I have been doing the most work kind of in my life. 'So I feel like it's been kind of… maybe it's been subconsciously – what's the word? – deliberate?, to not have a committed partner. 'Just because I'm 22, I don't really want to put my… also considering how… at the rate that I'm traveling all the time and working and stuff, I just feel like it's not the time to do that.'

Sharon Stone claims she had a heated 'argument' with Michael Douglas before Basic Instinct

Sharon Stone had an "argument" with Michael Douglas before they starred in Basic Instinct together. The pair featured as the leads in the 1992 erotic thriller but she recalled that they had previously got into a row at the Cannes Film Festival which meant they didn't do a screen test together. In an interview with Business Insider, Sharon said: "(He) did not want to put his bare a** out on the screen with an unknown - and I understood that. "He wouldn't even test with me, but that was also for a different reason: We had an argument prior to that." The 67-year-old actress continued: "A bunch of us were all sitting, and he was talking about someone and their kids. I really, really knew this person he was talking about. "So I said something and he responded to me, saying, 'What the f*** do you know?' It was in regard to a father-child relationship. "Clearly, it triggered him. So he screams this at me across a whole group of people. And I'm not the person who goes, 'Oh, excuse me, superstar.' I pushed back my chair and said to him, 'Let's step outside.' That's how we first met. "I explained to him what the f*** I knew about this family he was speaking about, and that I was best friends with the children and the parent. And then we parted, I wouldn't say as best friends, but amicably. "So, fast forward to casting Basic Instinct, I don't think he wanted me to be his co-star." However, Michael's representative Allen Burry claims that the Wall Street star, 80, is "very surprised" by Sharon's claims as "he doesn't remember any argument in that timeframe" between the pair. Burry told People: "He actually only remembers seeing and meeting Sharon for the first time when he saw (director) Paul Verhoeven's screen test of her for Basic Instinct and (Michael) said, 'Absolutely, she's the one.'" He added that Douglas "definitely spent time" with Stone at Cannes but that was when they were promoting Basic Instinct. Burry said: "And by the time they'd done the movie, they were friends." Sharon added that the previously fraught dynamic between the duo "worked great" once they got on set as she was "not rattled" by his fiery temper. The Casino star said: "That was interesting for the character because Michael has a temper, and I didn't care. That worked well in our dynamic." Sharon stressed that the argument is in the past and that the pair are now good pals. She said: "Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. "I admire him tremendously."
