Mika Singh slams ‘fake singer' Diljit Dosanjh for working with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir: ‘Left fans betrayed and helpless'

Indian Express25-06-2025
Singer Mika Singh called fellow singer Diljit Dosanjh a 'fake singer' and described him as 'irresponsible' for going ahead with the release of his film Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film, which will not be released in India, is set to release overseas on June 27. Despite the Pahalgam attack worsening ties between India and Pakistan, Diljit has been actively promoting the film with his co-star Neeru Bajwa. He had even shared the trailer of the film, which featured Hania prominently.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Mika Singh penned a long note with the sub-head 'Desh Pehle (Nation first),' expressing his disappointment in the Punjabi actor-singer. He wrote, 'Guys, as we all know, the relationship between India and Pakistan isn't going well right now. Yet some people continue to act irresponsibly.'
Taking a dig at the singer's decision to share the film's trailer, Mika wrote, 'Before releasing any content that involves artists from across the border, they should think twice–especially when our nation's dignity is involved.'
Taking example of the ban of the film Abir Gulal, Mika wrote, 'There was a film featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor that many of us opposed, and yet, some still don't seem to get the message. What's more shocking is that a fake singer, after doing 10 shows in India with thousands of fans buying tickets, had now disappeared — leaving fans betrayed and helpless.' Mika was referring to Diljit's immensely successful Dil-Luminati world tour.

While Diljit Dosanjh is aware of the controversy, he said that he has no choice but to promote the film because the producers' money is at stake, and that the film was shot before the Pahalgam attack. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh shared, 'When the film was made, the situation was fine. This film was shot in February. A lot of things happened after that which are not in our control. When it (Pahalgam attack) happened, the producers knew that they can't release this film in India anymore. But, they decided to release it overseas as they have invested a lot of money in the film. They will still incur loss because they are removing an entire territory.'
He added, 'The truth is when I signed the film, the situation was just fine. Now, when the producers want to release it overseas, I will have to stand with them and support their decision.'
Apart from acting in Sardaar Ji 3, Diljit Dosanjh is also a co-producer along with Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu. The film is directed by Amar Hundal.

Kabir Khan says censor board wanted to cut Om Puri's 'Jai Shri Ram' dialogue from Bajrangi Bhaijaan: 'People loved that'

Director Kabir Khan has opened up about a key moment during the release of his 2015 blockbuster 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', revealing that the censor board wanted to remove the dialogue 'Jai Shri Ram' from a crucial scene. Speaking at the eighth edition of The Indian Express's Expresso, the filmmaker shared how he fought to keep the line in. He recalled a particular scene set in Pakistan where the late Om Puri's character, a maulana, says 'Jai Shri Ram' to Salman Khan's character, who is hesitant to say 'Khuda Hafiz'. Kabir explained, 'And Om Puri's character, without batting an eyelid, says 'Jai Shri Ram' and the censor actually asked me to cut that. I asked why and they said that Muslims won't like it.' He responded with, 'I said 'Sir, what's my name? I don't mind it at all.'' Kabir also recalled watching the film on opening day, which was Eid. 'I get gooseflesh thinking of it now. And the censors though they will not like it.' He added, 'I feel you have to stick to what you believe in and at the end of the day, it's goodness, why won't people like it? As I said, sometimes, the gatekeepers come in and stop that but the people don't. People loved that, people loved whatever we were showing in that film, the politics behind it.' When asked if he could make 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in today's political climate, Kabir said, 'If the film still gets love, then it means that somewhere it hit home. I feel it's the gatekeepers who sometimes draw these limits.' 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' is a 2015 drama directed by Kabir Khan, centred around Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi (played by Salman Khan), a devout Hanuman bhakt who embarks on a heartwarming journey to reunite a lost mute Pakistani girl, Munni (Harshaali Malhotra), with her family across the border. The film explores themes of love, humanity, and unity beyond religion and nationality. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a Pakistani journalist who joins Pawan on his mission, while Kareena Kapoor Khan stars as Rasika, Pawan's supportive love interest. With its emotional storytelling and strong performances, 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' became one of India's highest-grossing films and won widespread acclaim for its message of compassion and hope.
